I wasn't sure if this had been posted before so I thought I would mention it. Recently I picked up a wireless charging pad called Slice Charge. It is very similar in design to AirPower and works fantastic. It will charge two Qi enabled devices as well as the Apple Watch in the center.

The box and packaging were very nice and the pad itself feels very high quality. It comes with a USB-C cable and power brick. Obviously it doesn't have the cool animations that AirPower was promoting, but it still works well. Another difference is that the watch has to be placed in the center due to it being a built in watch charger only on that portion. That part is magnetic though so its very easy to place the watch in for charging.

Anyway I just thought I'd share. I really like this and it will come in extremely useful when traveling as its a one stop charging spot for all three devices.

Yeah sorry I didn't post the price. I felt that $50 was not bad and it works just as advertised.

May I ask when you ordered and how long it took to receive? I ordered one right after AirPower was cancelled and haven’t heard a peep since.

Hmm. I did the exact same thing. It took about three weeks to get here but they shipped it out with a tracking number the day after i ordered it.

I emailed these guys with a question about their product and they never answered. If they won't answer sales questions I was very concerned about what would happen if I need post-sales help. I ended up not placing an order.

Good luck to those that rolled the dice. It sounds like some orders are being shipped, and some aren't.

I ordered version 1 about 3 weeks ago. Just got shipping notice on Monday. Emailed them 2-3 times and they responded within a day or two. They did state, with the cancellation of AirPower, they are slammed and operating at capacity.

ordered version 1. card is charged immediately. after a week of no updates, i sent an email regarding the status of the order. week with no response. i had to check the website to see that they were ‘swamped’ with orders and emails so there would be a delay. i send another email requesting my money back instead. after a few days, a person requests my paypal address. i respond to the email. no response for another week. i had to refute the charges on my credit card.

ymmv but hell no would i deal with that bs again.

Hmmm, not sure why some people are having issues with ordering these. I ordered mine, and got a confirmation the next day, with a shipment confirmation in a couple more days. It arrived in about 2 weeks time and works great.

I would not feel comfortable ordering from these folks again. In fact, i finally received my version 1 yesterday and it won’t charge my watch. SOMETIMES when i put the watch in the center (feel a slight magnetic pull), it will begin charging, but quits after a short time. If I try to reposition the watch to make it start charging again, the pad doesn’t recognize the watch. I have to unplug and plug the pad back in, replace the watch, and it starts charging again for a short time.

I am afraid to ask for a return and refund; my warranty will run out first, at the rate they communicate!

One reason the v1 would have been a no-go for me is that the watch charger is not MFI certified. The one on the v2 is, which should prevent the type of issue you are having.

Do have an Apple Watch Series 4 that you are charging with the SliceCharge 2? Having any issues? Mine charges a S3 just fine, but not a S4. Been trying for 3 days and it’s very inconsistent.

Yeah mine is a series 4 and it charges perfectly fine. Weird, I wonder why yours isn’t working correctly.

I have the SliceCharge 2.....not sure if there was a SliceCharge 1. Stupid me, didn’t even check for MiFi. I now see the yet-to-be-released SliceCharge Pro IS MiFi.

Yes the Pro is what I was (unclearly) calling the v2. I think the one you have called SliceCharge 2 is basically at twerked version of their first design with a removable power cable, and the Pro is their second design.

And btw, while the Pro is MFI certified, it is not Qi-certified (at least not yet, they said they applied for certification). While it is unlikely to cause major compatibility issues, it does concern me a but in terms of safety and reliability.

I finally received my Slicecharge Pro last week (almost 2 months after it was supposed to ship). I’m actually quite happy with it. It can charge my iPhone and AirPods at the same time. If I am only charging my phone, I can plop it down wherever on the pad and don’t have to think about centering the phone with the charging coil. Since the coils overlap, the phone will be centered no matter where I put it. It has a stand for charging my watch in nightstand mode. The fact that AirPower would have required me to lay my watch flat was the main reason I was never interested in it. The Slicecharge is what I wanted AirPower to be all along!

Since I did read here and on Reddit that this was officially Qi certified, I did test the Slicecharge for several days at my desk at work where I could keep an eye on it before putting it on my nightstand. Neither the pad nor my devices have ever gotten abnormally hot and charging stops when the devices are topped off. The watch charger is MFi certified so no need to worry there. Everything seems to be working as advertised!

The one thing I don’t love about the Slicecharge is that there is no support underneath the watch when it is charging with the stand popped up. This makes the watch wobbly when I try to hit the side button to turn off my alarm in the morning. I have also noticed the watch tends to slide down off the puck and stop charging whenever I have my 3rd party link band (which is quite a bit heavier than my other bands) attached. I am looking at putting a small piece of foam at the base of the watch charger to fix this. Other than that, I can definitely recommend this charger!

Thanks for the review. Can't wait to get mine. Haven't gotten any shipping notification as of yet

How are you finding the placement of the devices? Do they need to be lined up a certain way or is the charging area pretty large?

Thanks, very useful post.

Does it fell like the phone is charging at full speed (for a 7.5w charger) when you are charging the watch, AirPods and phone at the same time?

Also, I read on Kickstarter people complaining that the material on top doesn’t have enough grip meaning the phone doesn’t feel very secure. Is that a concern for you?

The placement is definitely easier than with a single coil Qi charger. Keep in mind that Qi charging relies on lining up the coil in your phone with the coil in the charging pad. The SliceCharge improves the charging pad half of that equation by having 5 overlapping coils. This means you can put the phone pretty much anywhere on the grey area of the charging pad and it will be lined up with one of those 5 coils. So, the whole area to the left of the watch charger is one big charging area, which is great. All that being said, you still have to align the center of the phone somewhere on the pad. If you look at the picture from my earlier post, it is the center of my phone that is over the pad. If I had placed my phone so that more of the top area or the bottom area were over the charging pad, it wouldn't charge (but this is the same as any other Qi mat). But, I can put the phone anywhere in the grey area and have it charge if it's aligned properly. As a side note, if you only have one phone and don't have any other devices that need to charge at the same time, you can turn the phone sideways so it runs the same direction as the pad and it will for sure charge every time.

Thanks, very useful post.

A bit hard to tell on the charging speed. I haven't done any tests and probably won't since I leave my SliceCharge on my nightstand. I don't really care if it's only a 5W charge rate since it is charging the phone overnight. I will tell you that it comes with a 30W USB-C PD wall brick and a USB-C to USB-C cable. At 30W, the power supply is more than capable of charging 2 phones and a watch at full speed all at the same time. Whether the Qi coils are delivering 5W or 7.5W, I can't say without doing some tests. My general attitude about Qi chargers has always been that they are more about convenience than about fast charging. I have an Apple 29W and USB-C to Lightning cable for when I need to charge my phone quickly in a pinch.

The fabric top of the pad is textured and grippier than it might seem at first glance. But, it is definitely not as grippy as a Qi charger with a rubbery top (like the Mophie pad Apple sells). If I slide my phone with a little force (like if I just put it down a little too hard), it does come to rest pretty quickly. Obviously, if you're tossing or flinging the phone across the pad, it's going to slide off. Not really an issue from my perspective since the pad sits flat on my nightstand. I don't usually touch my phone again until the morning after I go to bed. I'd say the phone will be fine for small bumps on the pad (or the table it is on). I know Hard Cider sells a stand to prop the SliceCharge up for use as a desk stand. I wasn't interested in that and didn't buy it, so I can't tell you if the lack of grip compared to a rubbery pad is an issue when the stand is propped up.
