Is this in Canada?
Because I can’t find any sales for new Apple Watches in Canada.
SportChek currently has 40X Canadian Tire points back on Apple Watch 6, SE, and 3 purchases.
Plus, if you use your Triangle Credit Card, it's another 30X back.

That works out to 28% of your pre-tax purchase price back in Canadian Tire $. (10X = 4%, so 70X = 28%.)

I got one from Best Buy. Series 5, 44M SS gold. Really nice price considering the difference between series 5 and 6 is basically just the Oxygen sensor.

Thanks for bumping this thread. Best Buy still has the 44mm Series 5 Stainless Steel for $449. I have had my Series 3 SS since it came out and finally decided to jump on and upgrade. I wasn't going down to the Aluminum models and the $300 price difference between the 5 and the 6 seemed like a great savings

The only problem that I see with buying an older model is that the battery suffers a bit. I just bought an AW6 SS and when I took it out of the box it had zero battery charge. Last time when it was charged to 100% (according to the battery log) was almost 4 months ago . Li-Ion battery hates to sit discharged for long periods of time, the battery wear accelerates... So if this new model stood this long discharged on a shelf till I bought it I wonder how about those AW5.... This is one of the reasons that sometimes I see people complaining that their watch battery health dropped suddenly to 97-98% in a few months.
Just want to raise awareness on the battery side of things.... that's all.

I was able to still buy it with AppleCare so if the battery has issues, I’ll be fine. I’ve had my Series 3 now since Sept 2017 and it still has 97% battery health according to settings.

I purchased my SS S5 via the same Best Buy sale back in November 2020. Like you, it had a zero charge out of the box. Now that I've had it for four months, I just checked my battery health, which is currently at 99% with no complaints on the battery performance.

I'm not arguing against your point; I'm just stating that I did not experience a drop in battery health in the slightest bit due to it sitting on a shelf for possibly 6+ months.

I got a gold SS S5 from best buy yesterday and it came with around 40% battery charger and is at 100% battery Heath.

I got one of the SS S5 cellular‘s from Best Buy. My battery was dead also but is reading at 100% health and I’m seeing great battery life.

It depends a lot on how long the battery was at 0%... If it's just 1 months it's passable... if it's 5-6 months...well, that's not good. Don't expect the battery to drop to 98-99% battery in a matter of days... it takes a bit of time. Anyway, it's not a product that can be used for 10 years anyway so don't worry too much... Think of it as watch that has a life span of 2-3 years :)... maybe 4 years if you have more than 1 AW and you rotate them.

Would have been interesting to see when the watch was charged the last time (you can check that while it charges for the first time). The watch is charged to 100% when it exists the factory and a full charge lasts at least 3 months... unless it's stored in a very cold storage warehouse and usually when it's very cold the li-ion charge drops very fast.

It's very disappointing that no company managed to offer us a better battery technology in the last 15 years... more resilient to wear, more resilient to high and low temperatures.... more resilient to wear while in storage.

Oh I’m not the slightest bit worried about it. I’m confident I’ll get my expected 3-ish years of use out of it before it’s time to upgrade again for new features/functionality. I’ve gone from a S0 to an S3 to the current S5, and battery wise they’ve been very robust. I wear mine every day, and have never had a battery issue thankfully.
