Ordered Refurbished Macbook 15 i5 on Feb 28, Shipped Mar 1, Arrived Mar 7 Today in Canada.
Battery has only 3 cycle, but some reason, charger is not charging the Macbook. Gotta call Apple tomorrow.

Went to apple store and charger port is faulty. Should I just exchange for another one or just have it repair?

I heard that if a macbook have problem, there will be more problem later on.

I had to exchange my first refurb, Apple overnight-ed me a new one. BTW, I asked for a free upgrade to the rush shipping, and they agreed. I called at 8 am on a Tuesday and had the new one on Wednesday at 1 pm. So that's a lot less hassle then having to wait for a repair in my opinion.

Scalfani, just curious as I'm considering a 15" refurb: Did you have to send in the return first? Or did they do the exchange simultaneously, so the new one was already on the way by the time you sent the old one back?

Miss Terri
(Now, if the old Core2Duo standard-res anti-glare were not such a ridiculous price I would order one -- it's more than the 2010 i5!)

I could care less about Thunderbolt. Its going to be a while before there are devices out there that take advantage of it. When they do come out Im sure they will be overpriced as well.

Personally I think the refurbs are a better deal than the new models. Unless you absolutely need Sandy Bridge, and my guess is that even the people that say they NEED it really dont.
I know this post is from a while ago now and someone may have pointed this out already (I cant be bothered to check), but saying "I could care less" has the complete opposite meaning to what you mean it to have. I don't know why some of you guys on that side of the pond say it

I'll let David Mitchell explain :)

Apple said they would not ship the new unit until the old one was dropped off at Fedex. However, they shipped it immediately. I returned the old one after I received the new refurb unit and I was not charged at all.

I purchased the "old" C2D antiglare, because the antiglare was more important to me than specs. Most people who worry about the speed of their computer usually only check email and browse the internet. I'm not directing this at you, just commenting in general.

I hear you about the specs thing, and like you I would LOVE to have the standard res, anti-glare. That would make me happy every time I used it, whereas any specs "issue" would probably not affect me very often with my usage. Heck, I have about that in my late 2010 MBP 13" and it's fine.

It's just that I know the 2010 15" with the i5 is a "better" machine and more "valuable," so it's annoying that it costs less (or about the same). I'm on a budget so I wish the 2009 one would go down a bit so I could afford it!

I can completely understand why you bought it, absolutely.

Not likely, seen as how the Apple tech just wiped them off when I took it in to have a look. They just used dome cleaner and said don't worry about it, also stating that Apple doesn't really care about the "cosmetic" details of the refurbs. I'm still up in the air about swapping it out, but to tell the truth I just snagged a Hi-Res since they were in stock...So unless that turns out to be a disappointment (who am I kidding), I will be sending back the droplet tainted MBP.

Well, Apple is really killing me on this one... I just got the hi-res MBP today, opened up the box, take the protective sleeve off, and notice the most unsightly dent in the bottom of the case. See for your self's:

Do you think Apple will do anything about this? I would love to exchange, but seeing as how there is no stock I don't find that a possibility. Might they just change out the bottom case? Come on Apple...

Definitely exchange, that is unacceptable. Now I am starting to wonder if Apple just boxes up returns and waits until people complain about them. I'll never buy another refurb again. I'm thankful mine worked out, but it took an exchange too. They should have stock of your computer, a few years back I bought a refurb 23 ACD, it came damaged (dent on side). They showed out of stock online, but they were able to exchange for a new one, no problem. So I think they only show in-stock online when they have a significant amount of them.

I would call and politely raise hell. That is completely unacceptable. Nowhere does it say that refurbs are "scratch and dent" models. Get yourself a new 2011 out of the deal! lol. At this point I dont think its out of the question.

And I think some of you have had bad luck with the refurbs. Mine arrived and was basically brand new. Not a scratch, basically new battery. The problem probably isn't apple themselves, but the repair company that is refurbishing these things. They get repaired and put in a box and added to inventory, apple has no idea whats in the box. Doesn't mean apple isn't responsible for making it right, but I don't think they are selling damaged machines on purpose.

Well, I have talked with Apple and they will send out a replacement once they have confirmation of my return. To ease the questioning of the refurbish quality, I investigated the dent before calling Apple. It appears that the box was dropped. There is a slight indentation on the outside bottom, but no penetration. I put the MBP back into the sleeve, and there are some scuffs that align with case dent and the outside box dent. Thanks FEDEX!

Still, a headache...

"Get yourself a new 2011 out of the deal! lol".
I would have loved this...but since I discovered the poor handling, I couldn't blame Apple for this one. However, just wait, I'll get the glossy as a replacement-I can see it happening now. Then I will demand compensation of a new model!

I was just not able to get a $1269 + tax deal from Apple refurbs for a 2010 i5 2.4 15" Macbook Pro. Luckily, one of the e-tailers had a new one for $200 more than the base price, no tax - hopefully it is not very slow as compared to a 2.66 i7 2010 model. Is that an ok deal or did I pay too much for a new one?
