With as much as people complain about apple i don’t see why they just don’t go to Android

C’mon dude. I dislike Lightning as much as the next guy but I’m not about to switch to Android over it 😂

I am, however, greatly looking forward to making the first USB-C iPhone my next iPhone.

I think USB c will be a good decision in the end but the interest on this forum in changing from lightning is not representative of the real world.

People are going to be really annoyed about having to throw away all their lightning cables and buy usb c cables, especially since Apple doesn’t give away the wall plugs in the iPhone boxes anymore. The reaction when they switched to lightning wasn’t good so I’m not expecting that regular users will be happy about this at all.

In my case it will be a pain as well as I only have one USB c device (iPad air) and I have a ton of lightning stuff including the ATV remote, Magic Keyboard&trackpad etc. I’ll have to spend money on cables for sure but I I won’t complain too much lol.

However the hate against lightning isn’t justified and I just don’t understand why some people hate it so much. I mean it’s just a connector.

Yeah I could definitely see them keeping lightning speed (since there’s nothing saying they can’t. That’s already the case that not all USB-C are created equal).

“You wanted USB-C? You’re getting USB-C…in looks only”. Petty? Absolutely. Could I see it happening? Yep.

I doubt they’d do that but it wouldn’t matter much to most of us. The real benefit to USB-C on iPhone is compatibility.

Simply not having to find/use a different proprietary cable to charge an iPhone is a huge win for convenience.

Can you imagine how annoying it would be if every electronic device you owned needed its own proprietary connector and charging cable?

Lightning made sense in a world where USB-C didn’t exist, but it’s long past it expiration date in 2022.

Nobody will throw away lightning cables until they throw away their last lightning device. Heck, I still have one of the old 30-pin cables to charge my iPad 2!

Most people will already have USB-C cables for existing devices, and I’m sure Apple will include one in the iPhone box.

especially since Apple doesn’t give away the wall plugs in the iPhone boxes anymore.

The wall plugs are already USB-C and do not need to be changed.

It can adapt but now we've set the precedent that the EU can dictate what tech companies must use. Imagine if the EU were around back when Apple dumped the floppy disk or SCSI. If you want USB-C, buy something else. I trust Apple's judgment about what components and technologies work best far more than I trust any political body.

Yet here we are with lightening still on our phones.

Yeah I understand it's a charge cable, but when a consumer is standing in front of a wall of cables and it says USB-C, they may assume it's using a somewhat recent standard. I assume the Thunderbolt cable will charge a device too?

Yes. For charging an iPhone, any USB-C cable will provide more than enough power.

Honestly USB-C is a mess. It’s one of the reasons Apple has been slow to move. Imagine if you could by 4 or 5 different lightning cables with different capabilities,

I don’t disagree with your general point. There should be a standardised way of marking/identifying USB-C cables.

However, even the most basic of USB-C cables are more capable than Lightning! There is no USB-C cable that’s slower or supports less power than a Lightning cable.

I hope they do it. I wish apple would just abandon EU and make them beg for apple to come back tbh
So your outlook and preference is to effectively punish the everyday people that live in the EU, that have no direct say on matters like this? All to say FU to the politicians? That sounds like a great idea and one that promotes unity round the world. It’s quite small minded, let’s not pretend that Apple actually wants to throw away a massive population and their money, and the EU is too massive to just pull out of.

The people of the EU do not vote on matters like this in any referendum or direct vote. This is not exactly the type of policy that any of the MEPs are going to include in their manifesto for election either. What exactly do you think the population of the EU care about? Do you think they are worried about their representatives inconveniencing Apple et al or things that actually matter, like trade, immigration, taxes and war? I think it’s pretty easy to work that out, if you actually think about it.

great for those who want to carry one cable. That said as happy as I will be when it comes next year I will still use magsafe 99% of the time.
