If a gurl avoids looking at you in thr eyes?

    what does that rather mean?

You're ugly, weird, or freakin' her out. Leave her alone.

(edit) I am only kidding. ;)

What is their personality? Are they a nice person generally? Maybe she likes you and is just shy.
If they are a all around mean person, she probably doesn't wanna talk to you.

Either way, she probably likes you, weather she realizes it or not.

Maybe she doesn't like people who can't spell "girl"...

    Ah, a true Mac user.;)

If she waves from you from afar, she probably like you and is just shy.

Just be nice. Not overly nice and freak her out though.

Make her feel safe, comfortable and relaxed around you
Listen carefully and take an interest in her and her interests

Avoidance of eye contact under the premise of what I've read here usually indicates an underlying lack of self esteem. She will eventually start to make eye contact for longer periods of time as her comfort level with you grows or her interest in you wanes.

You don't have to be alone. That would freak her out even more IMO. Do you have any classes with her?

Maybe give a frame of reference by letting us know how old both of you are up front

Well i have the impression that if she is shy it would be better to say something when she's not around other people/friends.
