That's all good to know. I've been looking for a DS game to fill the void that Pokemon and Order of Ecclesia could fill, and I do like my big games.
Was surprised to hear the world map is only missing 1 island from GTAIV. That's quite impressive! With a name like Chinatown Wars I imagined it would just be some tiny, self-contained area (like Chinatown areas usually are).

Oh wow it's brilliant. I shouldn't have waited this long, screw GTAIV this is now taking up my free time :D.

Rockstar Games Announces Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Coming to the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system

New York, NY – June 22, 2009 – Rockstar Games, the world-renowned publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is pleased to announce that one of the highest-rated handheld games of all time, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, will be making its way to the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) handheld entertainment system. Developed by the award-winning studio Rockstar Leeds, in conjunction with series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be available at retail on UMD® and digitally from the PlayStation®Network in North America and Europe this fall.

"We're proud to extend this truly unique handheld Grand Theft Auto experience to PSP and offer a downloadable version of Chinatown Wars for PSP®go," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "Rockstar Leeds has shown incredible talent in creating games that raise the bar in terms of depth and innovation on portables, and with Chinatown Wars we have a rich, fast-paced, and incredibly addictive entry into the series."

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars follows the story of Huang Lee, a young Triad who travels to Liberty City after the mysterious death of his father. Within the game, players will navigate their way through the streets as they uncover the truth behind an epic tale of crime and corruption within the Triad crime syndicate, delivering the unprecedented amount of depth that has become a true trademark of the franchise. Hopefully they will be smart and price it at $19.99

Oh wait ... this is Sony here ... it will be $40.

Take your beef up with Rockstar or Take Two, bub. I can't imagine them pricing this above £19 though. Handheld game prices seem to be quite cheap here now.
Anyways Rockstar Leeds must I get the next bus over and complain at you till you make a San Andreas Stories?

Sorry - I meant to say 'this is for the Sony PSP'.

I know the pricing is controlled by Take Two / Rockstar ... but I expect that similar to what Squeenix has been doing they will take something released on another platform and add very little of substance and jack up the price.

I hope I'm wrong - in my opinion GTA: Chinatown Wars is the best game in the series, certainly better than the vastly over-rated GTA 4, which should have been subtitled "Be In My Movie or Fail". :D

I think it is sad thatthe sales have not been great for GTA:CW ... it deserves better.

A significant amount of GTA CTW requires the touch screen. How are they going to bring that to the PSP?

Not that I care, I've already beaten it (except lion statues, damn couldn't find them)! Best DS game EVAR!

I agree.... best DS game I own.

Not having the PDA on the bottom screen will change the experience somewhat.... so im looking forward to see what they come up with.

And of course, more importantly.... they wont be able to do scratch cards!!

hehe

Hmm, I just saw that this is out for the iPhone. Maybe I will give it a shot. It would be the first iphone game I pay money for.

Does the top-down perspective work well for the gameplay and atmosphere? Does the overall game feel more like GTA 1&2, or like that 3d parts?

It feels like a good mix of them both. It has the amenities the new ones offer (GPS for one) while having the old school feeling. However, I can't imagine how awful it will play with crappy on-screen controls... ugh...

I know what you mean....it's why I haven't actually bought any iphone games so far. But from what I've been reading it seems to control "okay", and for 8€ I may give it a shot.

The controls are actually good. I think this version is just as good as the DS version that I put 20 hours into, plus you can use your own music (only while in vehicles :p). I've been playing it for over an hour now. Great game.

Picked it up from the app store last night. Only had time to play a few minutes though... So far it looks really nice, the controls will take some getting used to though.

But it looks like a fun game, and I am looking forward to exploring it while sitting in trains, planes and waiting rooms. :)
