A lot of concern here for running it on mbp's and imacs. Would it run ok on my mac pro, i have a 8800GT?

Really annoyed! Got home last night, start Windows, get error message and it restarts and restarts and restarts in a loop. Works in safe mode, but not normally. Turns out some trojan has screwed everything up according to AVG. I'm stumped because I rarely use Windows for anything other than gaming.
Had to do a full reinstall and still need to sort of the graphics drivers and SP3 tonight.
Anyway, I'm hearing that the game has serious flaws with the GPU/CPU workload. Even people with great graphics cards are getting about 20FPS because the CPU is creating a bottleneck. The only happy people seem to be Quad Core owners (so your Mac Pro should be ok if its got one of those).
Rockstar are working on a patch. I'm not sure how it was allowed to be released in its present state.

I run it on all low on my MBP w/ 256MB vid ram and it runs fine for the most part. I get 15-25 fps at least, playable and somewhat smooth for the most part.
Its video memory also. This game requires 1.4GB of video texture memory to run everything on high/native resolution, thats not including how well it'll run (FPS wise).

ayeying, I changed it to the auto configured settings and ran it at a much lower resolution and it runs just fine now... but I would REALLY like to run it at native resolution. I hope this patch that Rockstar is working on will let me do so...
For MBP owners with an nVidia 8600M GT 128mb Vram, run it at auto configured settings and resolution under 1200 X 800 (two resolutions below) and it runs pretty smooth.

I don't like SecureROM, but it hasn't caused a problem for me, so my dislike comes from the idea of it being there. It's on Dead Space and Fallout 3 and both play perfect on my comp. I still have not bought Mass Effect because of its reported problems.
It dips below 30 fps on the 360, but not that often. 😉
And dual-booting sucks, but then again, that's a choice, but so is buying an actual PC and my gaming rig was more than $1500 less than the MacBook Pro I use and it can handle these games at a level higher than any console.
Anyways, any convenience that a console offers is quickly trumped by a PC's better controller options, modding support -- weather it's official or a hack, and the fact that all DLC is free -- MS learned the hard way that they can't bring this BS back from their console, where users will blindly pay for anything -- and online support is WAY better.

Does anyone know for a fact or even think that this patch will fix whatever is causing the game to run slow? I have a feeling that there is nothing they can do to boost graphic performance, not in a patch anyway... Anyone have any evidence I'm wrong? I would love to be wrong about that hahaha...

Has anyone run this on a Unibody MBP 2.4 GHz / 256 MB 9600GT? I'll be getting one of them in a couple of weeks and I'm wondering if I should consider buying this game or not.
i dont know how powerful the new MBP are compared the latest iMac but it runs ok on mine (not as good as it should tho but playable). Only thing is I'm not sure how 256mb graphics card will handle the game.
To any one else able to run the game, when I benchmark my system, the results say I have a Intel Pentium III Xeon-Processor?? But aluminiium iMac's all run on Core 2 Duo's right? Or is the same thing?

Now I wish I had bought the 256mb model...
You'll most likely need more. Or, save your money, get an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 and a copy of the game.
They run GTA IV really well, excluding the fact that 360's have a 9000% chance of s**tting up.😀

LOL, the PS3 runs the game but at 640p (around 986x740 in 4:3 aspect ratio to give you an idea) with no AA, I think even my 1st-gen MBP can run the game at better settings 🙂
You have to realize consoles are not magic and they are $200-$400 for a reason.

Yeah, but they save the trouble of "OH SHI-, there is a new game out that needs 500GB RAM and a 20 Core CPU just to animate my characters face!"
My old PlayStation 2, purchased on day one, plays all games that have been made over the last 8 years (for the PlayStation 2). And I expect my PlayStation 3 to do the same.
You don't get that kind of mileage out of a gaming PC.
It doesn't make sense. I played it on 360 before, why in the world does it required such high end specs??

Me too, but IIRC the price tag was way too high for just 128mb more RAM and minor improvements in HDD space.
Plus back then very few games required more than 128mb or at least came with low-res textures for such cards.
BTW: Thanks for letting me know how bad it runs on this MBP model. I won't consider buying this game anymore.

Lastly I believe that Rockstar is much better at developing great game concepts than implementing them. They obviously haven't spent any time to optimize for the PC architecture. On a side note their game engines have flaws which they didn't care to solve since 2001 (GTA III and Max Payne). Just look at all the clipping errors in GTA IV. Doesn't hurt gameplay, but says a lot about their priorities.
Agreed! I bought an Xbox 360 for gaming on so I've been playing GTA 4 perfectly in HD for nearly a year. Ironically, Microsoft become the Apple of the console world when it comes to gaming.
And? 🙂 Movies are made in 24 fps, most TV shows are below 30 fps. The human eye barely notices anything above 30fps.
Does the game drop below 30fps on the Xbox? I haven't even noticed and don't care! I'm sitting here about to play GTA 4 and you're not :0

I don't understand why more people don't just use their computer for computing and buy a console for gaming? Gaming on a sofa in front of the TV is a lot more comfortable!
