GTX 1050 & Mac Pro 3,1 GFX really bad

Hi,

Can anyone help me here please,

I have installed the nvidia drivers and got the display to work but the screen is bad and flicking and loading in boxes really slow ..

I have enabled the driver as well ..

Here is my video on how it looks

This looks very wrong to me.

I suspect you are using a very old OS.

The Pascal card is only supported in 10.12.4 or later

The correct one should show you the GPU driver version. The the CUDA driver should be much newer as well.

In fact, I am very surprised that you can get an unaccelerated screen without proper driver.

It's good to know that if a "wrong" web driver can still drive the Pascal card, just unaccelerated. That may help to install the proper driver after an OS upgrade.

You're running your GPU in the slower port. Your Radeon HD 5770 is in your fast PCIe slot. Your Nvidia card only has 4 lanes to work with, and the Radeon has 16.

You should go to Nvidia's website and download their latest drivers and install them again. Whilst your CUDA driver is also outdated, it's not the biggest issue. It's your display driver that matters the most in terms of, well, the visuals. CUDA is for GPGPU, and whilst you certainly also want that updated, it's not the pressing issue
 
Ok little update now .. I have updated the CUDA & its still the same ..

I'm running 10.13..2 17C2120

I have unplugged the ati card as well ..

Also when I first boot up the Mac from a shut down the login page is RED .. does this mean anything ?

It may be you pick a wrong card that not compatible with the MacOS web driver.

Which card is it?

Also, how you update your 3,1 to 17C2120?

Even though I don't think x4 lane will make a card unaccelerated. Did you try to put the card back in slot 1?
 
why do you need the 5770 connected in slot #1? remove and put the NVIDIA in slot #1 to see if that fixes. make sure monitor connected to NVIDIA card and/or remove the 5770 from the system.

Sorry. It’s just in my system at the mo.

If I try and install any other driver it won’t & only this driver will install

I have a Mac Pro 3,1 10.13.2 17C2120,

When I say removed. I unplugged the card from the tower.

Of course, the driver match your MacOS version now. However, the MacOS version itself seems "wrong" (this is an iMac Pro specific build, not sure if will cause any issue on other Mac).

I know it's a GTX1050, but which brand, which model. There is a theory that customised PCB card may have issue with the web driver. This is just a theory, so far not enough data to prove it's correct. But also not enough data to prove this theory is wrong.
 
You cannot just unplug. Physically remove the card from PCI slot.

You're in a weird position with the 3,1 hacked update to emulate a 5,1. That MIGHT be what is causing your build number to be 17C2120 vs 10.13.2 (17C205).
 
I have tired everything and just the same no matter what I do.

I feel like a beginning to accept that it just not gonna work with my system
 
Figure out how to get your build to reflect 10.13.2 (17C205) vs what you have currently. Not sure what hack you're applying, but the problem likely stems from there. Your build number is likely incompatible with the NVIDIA web drivers. MacPro5,1 and MacBookPro11,3 (with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M) both show build number 10.13.2 (17C205).

I believe 17C2120 is a custom OS build for iMac.
 
I think the card is a palit gtx 1050 ..

Ok so I need to find a download of this for my Mac ?

17C2120 is not compatible with NVIDIA web drivers. The NVIDIA web drivers are tied to specific macOS builds. Fix that if you want to use the NVIDIA 1050 card. Your 3,1 > 5,1 hack is what is causing this. If the 5770 is working, stick with it and remove the 1050. (You're lucky that setup is working without issues given the hack.)

Figure out another method to get around it. Downgrading to 10.13 or 10.13.1 MAY help fix the issue, then you could use an older (likely compatible) web driver version. macOS 10.13.2 is extremely segmented with all of the patches at the moment. Booting your system like it's an iMac is doing nothing to help.

Your NVIDIA 1050 (unless flashed) does not have an EFI and will not have boot screens. You would need to follow all of the directions/suggestions for that setup, which are throughout this forum. Search for them and read the sticky.
 
Yeh I understand it dont show the boot screens that's no problem ..

updated new drivers and got it to display but still the same problem ..

I think i am now going to accept that is card with not work in my mac .. Im gonna look for a 970 or something like that ..
