Congrats xiovoix
I have a 2.8 Ghz 8 core machine I bought in Jan 2008 and I still love it. I also do 3d graphics and it's great for rendering, especially for multi threaded apps like modo.

What GPU did you get with yours?

Well this is the next area I will be focusing my attention on. I've secured the purchase of 8gig o'ram and a crucial m225 ssd but thus far i'm stuck with the stock radeon 2600xt that came with the machine. As I have no heavy work over the weekend I'm not too worried-just purring over the machine in my new setup and moving things around to suit but I'm open to suggestions! I like nvidia cards as opposed to others. Maybe a hangover/hangup from my pc days where they seemed to work more effeciently than ATI cards. Hear a lot about flashing 4870s and how good they are! I need to work with Maya, poser et al so need to get my ass into gear. Would never buy a quadro fx for obvious reasons so may have to decide between Radeon :eek:48** or GTX 2**:).

Yeah, you'll probably want to turn your attention to that GPU next. It's a potential weak spot for Macs.....Apple overcharges to a ridiculous degree.

Watch out with Nvidia cards....my 18 month 8800 GT went pop a couple of weeks ago and I got replacement from Apple due to having applecare. I hear that Nvdia aren't the company they once were reliability wise....Personally I'd go with ATI.

Whatever though, you got a good deal on your mac. They are still great machines and will be for some time to come.

Great machines indeed! Didn't know how much though until I've futtered about with one. Don't think I will ever go back to a weaker machine, not unless :apple:make a monumental FU in the future with the MP where they may be heading now down a narrow path. Sure ATI is good advice but hope nvidia get their act together soon. ATI it is then. Fancy having a flash at a sapphire vapour x 2048mb:eek::D

Ram Just Arrived, yeha!

DPD just dropped these off 5 minutes ago! These things are huge and heavy whao! Now to see what this MP is all about with a decent amount of ram. Thing is I still have 4 slots empty. Can't wait till next month to get another 8gig lol. Any suggestions about fitting these in certain slots with the stock ram? I know to put the 4gig sticks in 1st slots. What about the stock? Will I notice a drop in performance with the other slots not filled?
Ah! Can't wait too see what 10gig is like aha!:D:)

Congrats on the new machine. I have the same model which I bought a few months back and I love it.

I'm saving up right now for a new GPU and looking at the 4870

Enjoy

I'm also now saving at the moment for :apple:4870. Haven't got the time to flash! Ooops:D

Is the stock ram in the 2008 MP made by Kingston?
