As long as they are in the political / community forum, swell.

Freedom of Speech. It's a beautiful thing.

this forum in no way shape or form has anything to do with freedom of speech. your speech is not free here. you cannot curse, you cannot post certain links, you can not bring up certain subjects, you are constantly being edited and, ya know, moderated by the moderators.

having said that, its a private forum and its generally fine with me. i personally feel the mods are too strict at times but i also understand that if i have a problem with that i am more than free to leave. arn can run this forum any way he wants to so we really have no actual say; its up to him if he even chooses to listen to our opinions.

as far as the OP's question goes, it is a big forum with a lot of opinions. i think keeping a thread "on topic" is a great way to limit a lot of those opinions, some of which may be disruptive, some of which may be just a bit tangential to the topic. my personal opinion is that people think laterally not linearly, so loosely related tangents are what makes a thread interesting; much the way tangents are what can make a conversation interesting. i do not see a problem with bringing up pro- or anti-gun sentiments in a gun thread. if you wanted advice on what gun to buy, without contrary opinions as to wether or not buying a gun in the first place is right/good/ethical/evil/repulsive/etc. then you should ask the question where you know the general tone of the forum will not bring that up, like the NRA forum.
