If they could get the mini just a smidgeon less mini (lots of bezel to get rid of to help the cause!) I'd probably be about one. I never use my Air because it's just - for me- handling that thing after 10 minutes is irritating AF.

They could just give the iPad Mini a M3 chip.

Think about it; the M4 is reserved for the Pros. M2 is for the Air. No iPads currently taking the M3 chips. ;)

Since by the time they next update it they will be on the M12.... they should.

I can't speak for the M2 in the iPad Air, but I have the M2 in my MacBook Air and it is noticeably warmer than the M1 that preceded it. I don't know how they can stick the M2 in as small chassis as the iPad mini without severely affecting battery life or temperatures. And if they downclock it to adjust then what's the point? M2 is 20W vs 6W for the A15 or 8W for A17 Pro.

The screen unfortunately got narrower compared to the previous generations, making it worse for web browsing, among other things. I’d like them to go back to a less narrow aspect ratio, but that’s unlikely to happen.

The update is easy to predict.

$499
128 GB base storage
Down-clocked/binned A18
Jelly-scrolling fix
Camera re-positioned
Apple Pencil Pro/USB-C support
WiFi 6E
Bluetooth 5.3
Even though there are a number of people wanting a 120 Hz display, those features along with the 8GB of RAM accepted with A18 would easily suffice. Fixing the Jelly-scrolling would be well appreciated.

The A18 will also likely be in plentiful supply given how many iPhone 16's are made each day in the factory after the first month's run on those new models.

Anyone reading this site could have made the same predictions. Gurman doesn’t mention “sources” or anything else yet somehow continues to get attention.

I have the current one and the display, sound, and performance sucks so bad compared to my iPhone. Hopefully it at least stacks up to that in the new one. And Face ID. 🙏🏻
The display on it is garbage. The jelly scrolling is insane. I wanted to love mine but couldn’t unsee the terrible quality of the display and uneven refreshing of it. If they fix it, would be great. But now I settled on the iPad Pro 11”, and for me it’s just the right size. The iPhone is getting bigger all the time. Soon, we will have iPhones that won’t fit in pockets!

A18, no Stage Manager, 8GB DRAM, jelly roll fix. I left a litany of things on another thread. Oh, it will start at $599 to accommodate for that extra 4GB of DRAM.
Since the 8GB RAM M2 Air with 128GB storage w/bigger display costs $599, why does the iPad mini 7 have to cost the same? For all the lamenting that occurred last time with the price bump from iPad mini 5 $399 to iPad mini 6 $499, do you really think it needs to be that expensive? ;)

I'd take a 600 nit 8.3" display for now with no jelly scrolling. The amount of dimming to almost dark would also be appreciated.

No matter the debates I can still read a lot of material larger portrait-wise on the Mini 6 then the older aspect ratio of the Mini 5. Only for documents/charts that are wider does it shrink a bit.

I like to see a OLED like others but it's likely thats the next model or a pro model.

If your going to have at least a M1 with 8GB Ram why would a 64 GB storage model suffice? The iPad Air is 128GB minimum now, would make no sense to economize the IPad Mini 7 so it’s not usable for years. Let that fall to the basic IPad if you need to have it economically attractive still.
Well, you don’t exactly get to pick the processor so the only choice you get is the storage. For example, I have a 4th gen iPad Air with A14. If it was the 5th gen it would be M1. Mine is 64 GB and for me that’s more than enough. I use it to watch YouTube, Apple. TV and browse the web. None of those uses require storage. If I was doing things like video editing or gaming then definitely it would not be enough. It’s all about buying the right tool for the job.

I do hope this is a proper update! iPad mini is one of my favorite sized Apple devices… Wish they would give this top specs on par with iPad pro.
I would never expect that, but with the A18 and 8GB of RAM, it should be a huge performance improvement over what we have now. AI and console gaming should be the two biggest highlights and new features for the mini. Even if AI and console gaming are not your thing, other apps will benefit with the A18 and doubling of RAM.

That’ll be a good time to pickup a mini 6. Really big fan of the form factor over the 5 I currently use.
If they release an updated iPad mini in Oct., hit me up - I'll be looking to move my iPad mini 6, 256, Space Gray, with Dark Cherry Smart Folio and Astropad Rock, Paper, Pencil screen cover. Very well maintained. Not a scratch or blemish.

[Edit: I have never had a screen protector on any device in my life... until this one. And I have to say, I reeeeally like the feel it adds to the iPad min i6 + Pencil 2 experience]

I apologize in advance to any who have stumbled across my blathering in any iPad or iPad mini threads around here, because I can't not chime in that my iPad mini 6 (+ Pencil 2 combo) has easily been my favorite, and most used, iPad I've used to date (and I have used several over the years). It completely changed my creative workflow - for the better. I earn my living as a creative professional. I sketch, write, doodle, problem solve on it, daily. When I decided to move from my trusty pen + notebook scenario, it took about 13 minutes before I realized there was no turning back. It's as perfect an iPad as I hav used. I'm hoping they keep this form-factor around linger than they typically do for all things mini. She's a good one.

Apple has increased the price on most anything while “updating” the specs and I just don’t think they’re feeling generous at all at this point. They’re trying to shore up revenue targets and keep that gross margin as high as possible. The Mac mini is going to easily start at $799 for this new iteration because we got an “upgrade” to 16GB DRAM standard. Bookmark this post for future reference.

If it does get an M series chip does that mean it’ll finally get Stage Manager?
Stage manager barely makes sense on the 11” iPads and would be even more absurd on a mini, unless they support it for external displays, even better as a “clamshell” mode option

120 Hz has spoiled me and ruined Apple’s non-pro devices for me, which I might have gone with in some cases if not for the lack of ProMotion. I wish the iPad Air had gotten it now that the iPad Pros have OLED to set their displays apart.

Can somebody who has been following rumors more closely than I’ve been please let me know what the difference(s) will be between the mid-level AirPods 4 that will be introduced and what will be left out that’s already there or rumored to be in the Pro line when the AirPods Pro 3 are announced?

I’m trying to determine if it makes sense to go with the mid-tier AirPods 4 or hold out for the AirPods Pro 3. I do like my AirPods Pro 2, but I’m no audiophile and spending that much on wireless earbuds might be overkill. With that being said I don’t lose them and mine don’t tend to break. I still have the original AirPods Pro as a backup if something happens to my AirPods Pro 2 after AppeCare+ runs out.

Thanks in advance!!!!
