as some have mentioned it will be and you want an A series chip. I'm sure it will be some version of the A18.As an iPad mini 6 user, the only reason I would buy a new iPad mini is they will upgrade it to M2 or M3
I'd be so happy with that especially hit 128gb at $499. Ive been waiting for a new Mini for so long and use it a ton so a brand new processor, without worrying about hitting the 64gb ceiling and wifi 6e will make a big difference too meThe update is easy to predict.
$499
128 GB base storage
Down-clocked/binned A18
Jelly-scrolling fix
Camera re-positioned
Apple Pencil Pro/USB-C support
WiFi 6E
Bluetooth 5.3
I dont see any way it's not getting the A18. More ideal for tasks you'd do on the Mini. The last Mini got the new A processor before the iPhone did I think which has maybe never happened beforeI think it'll be getting the chip in the iPhone 15 Pro that is already AI-ready. But if they want a little more headroom due to how infrequently they update the iPad Mini, maybe A18 could be in there.
In 2 months M1 will be 4 years old. We have not seen how Apple is going to drop support of its first chip yet. Betting only on M1 seems risky to me. On the contrary you also might have mentioned M2. Having the newest A chip is bigger advantage in my opinion. Because I still believe in off device AI, 3rd party application using 3rd party AI. Despite me not being too much impressed by current AI capabilities. I respect those who find AI useful for their work (use case). I have to mention that on device AI means ssd i/o increase and battery drain. So I am really interested seeing real performance and utilization data. All new iPads need at least an M1 to be able to support apple intelligence.
Given it‘s Apple though, I wouldn‘t be shocked about 64GB.No more 64 GB storage, needs to be at least double that.
…same as for M1, M2 and M3. Also, the iPad mini is one of the products with the longest refresh cycles - so they aren’t going to stick an “old” SOC into it.It would probably throttle and battery life would also be abysmal. The current mini has a down-clocked A15.
Agree. The update is easy to predict.

Then again, the bigger and “better” iPad Air with an M2 starts at 599 as well. I suppose the mini will be somewhat less?A18, no Stage Manager, 8GB DRAM, jelly roll fix. I left a litany of things on another thread. Oh, it will start at $599 to accommodate for that extra 4GB of DRAM.
No, I think Apple knows that mini fans will grudgingly pay more for those features to get the mini and they are going to test the waters to try and extract as much cash as they think they can get away with.Given it‘s Apple though, I wouldn‘t be shocked about 64GB.

Still use a gen2 mini. Good for books and Netflix, on the bike, at the gym.I have the original mini sitting on my desk - maybe it’s due for an update![]()
Unfortunately, this seems to be the near term trend with Apple. They increase specs on some models and leave prices alone at the lower end, but increase on the higher end. Although the mini is not the high end it is the niche end, which Apple seems to have no problem charging extra for at this time. Again, I could be wrong. If in doubt, err on the side of a price increase, I guess.
I agree with you. It is indeed a niche product and people who love that form factor are willing to pay more for it, and Apple well knows this! It is what it is. I'm one of the suckers. Just love the little thing! HA!Unfortunately, this seems to be the near term trend with Apple. I have a mini 1, 2 and 4 in my stable of iPads. The 1 and 2 are off somewhere, but I still use the 4 for reading, videos, etc. It’s very slow now, but the form factor is great. But, it just doesn’t sell at the volume Apple now needs to make it a more competitive offering price wise. To them, it’s now a boutique item in the same way the iPhone mini 12/13 were a few years ago.I agree with you. I know. The lack of OLED is such a miss. An iPad mini Pro would sell like hotcakes.I have the current one and the display, sound, and performance sucks so bad compared to my iPhone. Hopefully it at least stacks up to that in the new one. And Face ID. 🙏🏻
No, it wouldn’t. If Apple thought it would they would make it. Nobody is paying $799 for an OLED iPad mini. It never sold in volume after mini 2.I know. The lack of OLED is such a miss. An iPad mini Pro would sell like hotcakes.
People thought the iPad Pro being the first M4 device had “almost zero chances” too 😂almost zero chances
some people will be extremely happy...included those in aviation

Imagine an M4 iPad mini….
But what I’d really like is a color eInk 16.7 million color Promotion iPad mini with a week long battery life.
Now that’s “zero chances”.
