Read all the posts and seen lots of no votes for Touch ID but not one explanation stating why Touch ID is/was bad.
Because it didn’t work half the time.It would never read my fingerprint for more than a few hours.Used to set it up one day and the next day it wouldn’t read my fingerprint.Super annoying.Never had that problem with Face ID,it just works.

Sounds like a you problem. With masks and unintentional unlocks, Face ID is nowhere near as good and it's not even a debate. Why do you think there have been countless articles and comments talking about Touch ID ever since Face ID came out? Because Face ID isn't that good in comparison.

That’s been my mother’s claim too (I say “claim” because she really has a lot of cognitive issues and it’s very hard to know when she’s reporting factually or otherwise). My dad’s complaint is similar, and has no patience to set it up again.

My own experiences with Touch ID are that it works very well, as long as my fingers aren’t moist (using it after washing hands, which I do repeatedly while preparing meals in the kitchen, is a particularly problematic scenario).

I wonder what percentage of  users seriously want touch id back...
I currently own the 14 PM and I also still have my 5s, but if I were to be completely honest I prefer the ease of just reaching over to my phone and unlocking it without having to pick it up. Even on the tech of the 5s TouchID is still faster than FaceID.

That’s if it works for you.It was very unreliable for me and only read my fingerprints for a few hours. After a few handwashes my fingerprints would change.Have never had that problem with Face ID.It just works every time.

You're right TouchID does have some issues. Wet fingers, wearing gloves are some issues that come to mind. As opposed to FaceID's issues with viewing angles.

I still have a 7 that I use for an old sim, but I honestly can say — there wasn't a day when I missed Touch ID. Let's be honest: each(Touch and Face ID) have their limitations. But unless they figure out a way(without spending too much money/resources) for Touch ID to be as secure as before and sit under the screen... I don't see it coming back.

What was your experience with TouchID? Why do you dislike it so much?
And to clarify I'm just fine with reminiscing over past days, I don't think Apple actually has to bring it back.

Well, I went through the entire evolution of Touch ID since the 5S, with the exception of the 8, never had that phone. While it did improve, it was still unresponsive at times, whenever your hands were the slightest bit wet. Also effectively unless in winter times, if you were to find yourself in a glove-wearing climate. :)

Yes those are the gripes with TouchID. I can understand how annoying it would be to use in a cold state/province or whichever region you're in.

I don't seem them launching a new chip without an event/video. Which limits them to replacing the m1 iMacs and m1 minis, and m1 iPad pros, and doing Apple TV/home pod. But if there are m2 pro minis, or iMacs on the near horizon, I can't imagine them undercutting that, by leading with the lesser product. Plus they've got new Ones to show off, and presumably some hardware locked features to reveal

bummer you and others had such a time with Touch ID. I never had such problems. thanks for the answer.

I guess Apple are ashamed that they are unable to bring out a replacement for the 27” iMac and keep their prices down.
