As someone with a teen daughter named something that only VERY loosely sound like Siri, I'm not looking forward to this. Our HomePods have taught us just how often we yell "Hey [her name]."

Agreed - getting Siri to work correctly should come long before trying enhance Siri's trigger phrase. I'm tired of asking my phone, held in my hand and looking at it, to do something (e.g. send a message), and having the HomePod, 3 rooms away on another floor of the house, distantly say that it cannot do personal requests (yes, they're disabled). Bad enough doing the handoff when I couldn't possibly hear the response, doubly bad doing the handoff from a device that can perform a request to one that can't.

Oh heck no -- Siri already falsely triggers too often for me. This will make it even worse!

(For my work I happen to say the word "Series" a lot... e..g "Time Series"... Makes for hilarious conference calls when Siri pipes up randomly as these things are discussed)

Considering on a good day Siri is dumber than a box of rocks… just dropping the “hey” isn’t enough. Stop her from randomly responding from my pocket for instance.

Apple may announce a major change to Siri that would move away from the "Hey Siri" trigger phrase currently required to invoke the virtual assistant hands-free at next week's WWDC keynote, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In a new tweet, Gurman reiterated that the change to the Siri trigger phrase may be among next week's announcements. In November, Gurman reported that Apple is working on a way for Siri to be able to understand and respond to commands without the need to use "Hey Siri" as a trigger-phrase. Instead, users will simply need to say "Siri."The change would bring Siri closer to Amazon's voice assistant, which can be triggered simply by beginning a command with "Alexa." At the time, Gurman added that Apple is also working on deeper Siri integrations with third-party apps and services to provide better assistance thanks to additional context.

Gurman initially said that the changes to Siri are expected to roll out sometime in 2023 or 2024, but his latest tweet suggests that it remains a distinct possibility for WWDC next week. Apple's mixed-reality headset is rumored to feature voice controls, so improvements to Siri would likely go hand-in-hand with the announcement of the new device.

Siri confuses my daughter's name "Sarah" with her name "Siri" Seriously, it would be nice to be able to train Siri about this nuance. Or to rename Siri to "HAL 9000".

Just watched WWDC. It’s official, Apple does not care a thing about Siri. All they did to Siri was make it more difficult to use by being triggered more often. That, of course was for the benefit the head set. Other than that they were careful not to even mention Siri. It really was embarrassing. They never said AI and they mentioned Machine Learning five times, almost as an afterthought.
