Apple Watch X will probably look like the Ultra in a smaller size.

Okay cool, my series 4 will last at least one more year, I just had the battery replaced so I’ll wait for the cool redesign. If I hate it I’ll just get a discounted series 9.

I don’t think it is possible for AW series 9 to be even less of an upgrade than series 8 was. But I suppose we shall soon find out, if that was the case I’d skip another year, as series 8 has nothing that compels me to upgrade from series 5.

Imagine the apple watch itself is more like a module that sits into a band that's an empty shell. The shell holds the apple watch moduel with it's magnet. It will fit snug within this housing. The controls physical buttons will be built into the shell, like the watch crown. And the watch will have little points of contact like that ipad keyboards. This way apple can make a more unified model line with the moduels being glass and aluminum. And the watch " cradles " or " housing " being different types of metal and colors. Allowing apple to sell you a wide array of expensive to wildly expensive band sets.

I love it when rumourmongers like Gurman make predictions that are so comfortably far in the future that when they don’t pan out they can turn around later and say, “Apple changed its plans” for x, y, and z excuses.

This particular rumour also smells like Apple putting a dummy project in front of an employee that they suspect is leaking info.

I guess I will be waiting till Series X before upgrading. I currently have a series 7.

Nope. To work, the “shell” would have to be a rectangle, open at the front (for the watch face) and back (for the sensors, which have to contact the skin).

No one else remember when he said this about series 6 Apple Watch, said it was coming, then nothing. Gurman knows nothing. He can say what ever he wants and it gets coverage
#1 Did you look at the name of the Site? (MacRumors) #2 He's been dead on for years now.

I got the stainless steel Melanese watch for my first watch - v3. I wore the magnet off it by sliding it along the band but still got three years out of it. Got a new last year and transferred to my Ultra watch. Color is close enough for me. I can two days use out of my battery. Works for me.

Probably will drop back to a cheap Timex when we go to Mexico for a week. Don't want my hand cut off.

I love my Series 5 Ceramic but I've been thinking it may be time to finally sell it. I haven't worn it since I bought the Ultra.
A AW 9 in ceramic would motivate me to buy. I don't believe the magnetic band rumor.

One of the many things I'd like, and know will never come, is a AW camera. I don't take photos, I take snapshots. I've missed many many snapshots because getting to my phone takes several seconds...and it's gone. And no, I have no idea how this could be implemented.

You may need to recalibrate
How‽ The only thing they say to do now is make sure the compass calibration setting is enabled (mine is). Other than that, there is no other way to do it. You used to be able to do that thing where you moved your phone in a figure 8 or something, but that was a while ago.

It's worth noting that the processor hasn't changed from the Series 6 - so it will be interesting to see if they wait for the X for the next processor upgrade.

The SE will also be around for a while still with the old design - that will be the last "legacy watch" I'd wager.
You'll see the new processor this year.

Looks like big form factor refreshes next year - iPhone 16 and Watch X. Hold your upgrades if possible.

It's about time Apple redesigned the Watch band system. The Vision Pro is all magnetic - they can take inspiration from that.
Nope. Surrounding any form of compass with magnets is such a bad idea it's laughable.

Pops in the the bottom. Like the housing sets top it. With the watch band around your wrist. The watch having a bevel or lip like the apple watch holding it snugly. It wouldn't fall out because of the magnets. And while around your write it's fimly planted.

just that? lol. I kid, I kid but blood pressure and blood sugar is the holy grail... they are absolutely working on it but they are super difficult problems to solve in a watch. your current watch may not survive long enough to wait for those features...

The only thing I need it updates. As long as I get those, it's fine. If needed I can change the battery. I probably would have to, slowly. It's 3 years old now and it has 85% capacity. But I feel like it's being emptied VERY fast, especially if I do workouts. In that case it will be empty the same day I've recharged it. If I don't do workout or voice memos then it can last a few days (my trick is that I linked bluetooth and wifi to flight mode, so I can turn both on/off with flight mode, and basically I'm in flight mode all the time and I just get out of flight mode once a day or sometimes even every couple days to sync the watch. I think it saves some battery. I also don't use any of the phone, messaging, music features.

Sounds good. The biggest thing I'm waiting for is BP. That will be the biggest game changer.

If you ask me, the rumored processor upgrade for Series 9 is a bigger deal than the crash detection and temperature sensor in the series 8 upgrade.

The CPU has been unchanged since Series 6 and that was a very minor bump that was more about efficiency to offset the power consumption of the always-on screen that drained the batteries of the Series 5.

Series 7 added more screen real estate (as did Series 4) and this is always welcome. Less bezel, more pixels.
