Apple ends 2022 with just a whimper... an iPad "Pro" 😆
I guess after last year with the MBP and M1s, they were due for an off year? I mean what did we get this year? Spec bumps, price hikes and dynamic island. Oh, and a Macbook Air with a base model that is worse than the M1? Don't get me wrong, I love my 14Pro, and the APP2 are really great, but not the strongest year all around IMHO.

The M2 Air is a winner for sure. Maybe that should have been their Holiday surprise for 2022

Looks like we are getting into an 18 month update cycle. Not sure if they will push towards a 12. ASi is new, so they may get to a 12 month, but I could totally see 18 month being the plan. Also, maybe when supply catches up and industry gets back to normal, maybe update cycle will possibly be closer to 12 (again, if that’s even the plan).

I predicted this back in July. Just call me the 'new Gurman' :p

Also, tell Ross Young to stop making dumb predictions like there will be a new mini-LED external display in 2022. I had to call him out for that, too.

With Tim Cook running Apple, their product release cycle is so predictable. If anything, predicted products come a cycle 'late', rarely early.

I dunno if these fantastic predictions are for the clicks, or what. But let's use common sense fellas.
I am totally more comfortable getting my predictions from BeatCrazy! Keep up the good work.

Where is the M-based Mac Pro? Wasn't the entire lineup supposed to be on Apple Sillicon by end of 2022, or am I remembering it wrong?
That will be a big challenge. The problem is, people expect lots of PCI-e and expandable ram on a Mac Pro. You could do that with the current architecture, but you would drastically harm performance. I halfway expect them to release something with the above specs, only not name it the Mac Pro. Perhaps they could call it the Studio Hyper Ultra Extreme Pro or something.

Two and a half years between Mac Mini updates is absolutely BRUTAL. And you know when it finally does arrive there’s going to be a giant price hike.
I honestly do not believe enough has been said about the M1 Mac Mini. It has been an excellent machine and a real value in terms of products in the Mac ecosystem. That is at least in part why I agree with your fear of a giant price hike. First, there are very few values in the Mac ecosystem. Second, all prices down the supply chain are skyrocketing. I am considering picking up another M1 Mac Mini at this point so I can enjoy lower prices.

You aren’t alone. Apple essentially said in their earnings call that they expect the M2 to not sell as well as the M1 because of lack of excitement for a new chip.
What? Apple just had their best Mac quarter ever and said it was because of the M2 MacBook Air and M2 MacBook Pro. The next quarter will be down year over year because last year the first revenue for the M1 Pro/Max MacBook Pros was in that quarter and there is nothing similar this year.

Are they are looking at market trends and just don’t see the demand there. The Mac is still a niche product, a very popular one. But it’s also one that is expensive that many don’t upgrade every time a new rev comes to market even with trade ins.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see new revs starting with the iMac first in the spring, iPad Air gets M2, iPad Mini bumped to A15. New colors for the iPhones mid cycle.

June for WWDC would be where they preview M2 based MacBook Pro’s, Mac Mini and Mac Pro, with the Mac Pro not ship until fall and MacBook Pro’s and new Mac Mini in July.

The Air would be the oldest in the lineup by then.

iPad Mini 6 already has A15.

Seems that M2 pro/max will be 3nm die
Since all the rumors said that 3nm will not ready until November-December, now this being an Spring 2023...its clear Apple wants SoC under 3nm die
So, will they skip the M2 Pro/Max/Ultra line altogether and just call it M3? Hmm…

I think Apple should be concerned about declining sales. Just for grins, I speced a M2 iPad 11 Pro with 2TB and cellular expecting a long lead time. It was in stock at a local Phoenix area Apple store. The trade in value of my M1 iPad 11 with 2TB and cellular was around $450. A depreciation of 80% in one year. Where is the residual value to justify a premium price product?

Processor upgrades are recently so slightly incrementalental that the increase in performance for normal use is hardly discernible. All the M1 chips seem to have nearly identical single core performance per all the reviews. The boot times of my M1 Mac Book Air (16GB/1TB SSD) and my Mac Studio Ultra (128GB/8TB SSD) are about the same.

My 2019 fully optioned Intel 16" Mac Book Pro (64GB/8TB SSD) actually gets to a usable screen faster at startup.

We need more than a different color lipstick on the pig to be a new model. There needs to be a significant increase in the single core mode speeds which will could also increase the multi-processor speeds.

The basic Apple iWork programs live in the single processor world. One's typing speed controls how fast things happen. Doing the routine software updates lives in the single processor world. One would think that an operating system upgrade would be quicker on the processor system with the most cores.....

We had multi-processor capability in the 90s but Photoshop was limited th three at the most. So there was lots of interest in going from a 68030 Iici to the top of the pile 68040 of the IIfx. The 32 Mbytes of Ram was very expensive using eight 4 Mb memory chips.
