As is typical in this internet battle of taking points, nobody is swayed by the arguments and there is always a counter-omit to a point. Having said that I hope you enjoy the ads, because imo, these regulations just pushed forward with velocity what may have taken some time to implement.
I will absolutely not enjoy my ads and will do everything in my power to either remove them on my device or force them to be removed.

and these regulations have had the same speed as any other European regulations. the average is 2-3 years. so not that different. And the DMA took close to 2 years to pass.

For those few who actually use Apple Maps, you would know they've been showing ads for years. What do you think all that “Guides” stuff is? Takes up half the room in the floating search window while far more important information requires a tap for “more”. I stopped paying most of the tax. I now buy your used iPhones at a fraction of what you paid for them. With virtually no meaningful loss of features I have any interest in.

That you’re buying used iphones you are still paying “the tax.”

How did I miss this extremely angering news??

Apple is turning into Google!

I am on this platform because their business model has not been to use us as cattle for the advertising industry. This pisses me off!!

Why Apple?
The money you earn from ads must be less then the money you’ll lose from folks leaving your platform because of the ads. You will also lose credibility as a non tracking, privacy first company and also lose repeat customers.

No ads please.
Leaving because of ads… leaving to go where??? This whole industry is a hellscape of advertising and general abuse of users!! There’s nowhere TO go!! End-stage capitalism has ruined all the potential that computing ever had, and has left us with broken garbage that people have been conditioned to accept as “normal”.

Would you rather pay $2000 for the iPhone or pay $1500 and see $500 worth of ads? :)

I hate prioritized search results in Google Maps. If I'm looking for a certain cuisine, I want the results to show in order of what is closest to me and not some mediocre place that's further away just because they paid. If Apple keeps going down this path, I might as well just start considering Android phones again since they'll be fewer differences.
I don't mind if I searched in general and it isn't ridiculously far. But if I search a specific restaurant, don't put stuff above it

Aren't you excited about all the 3D ads in the Metaverse?

Ads are bad, what is even worse is the tracking of users and storing that information in the name of providing targeted ads which can be abused at will at anytime in very dystopian ways.

Apple has joined the dark side starting with CSAM and now with advertising. Best of all, this technology will some day be used against their own!

Does anyone actually use this utterly useless nav app? Much of the time it has the location in the wrong place. Most of the time the routings are utterly ridiculous. Effective ads need an audience, there's nothing here.

Have you checked Samsung prices lately? They're more expensive than Apple's.

This can depend on what, where and when you are buying. For example, you can get a new unlocked 128GB Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra from Best Buy for $999 which is $100 less than a new 128GB iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Whether it be from a retail store like Best Buy or Samsung itself, Samsung devices tend to go on sale at various times during the year where iPhones are typically only discounted at one year old and then again at two years old.

I got my Z Flip for $0/mo from VZW with trading 13PM. It's just bill credits, but I have no reason to switch. Only disadvantage is I will most likely upgrade before three years so will pay off the rest of the installments to trade

I use Apple Maps all the time in the Southwest and Indiana with states in between. Works fine for me.
I’m traveling with my wife. 2 nights now we used her Watch to walk to restaurants in Cleveland, Ohio. Both had the address right and the location on the map wrong. It guided us to the indicated location. Then returning to the hotel it added about 30% to the walk because of poor routing. Along the way it directed us to turn on a street that was fenced off for construction of a huge building. Appears to have been closed for years. Imagine if we were driving in traffic instead of walking. At that point I pulled out my iPhone with Waze and got us back on track. This is typical Apple Maps, it’s utterly useless. Note the number of Google reviews vs Maps reviews on the App Store (above). That’s where iPhone users are.

Theres not only the high end samsung range among androids. I have a new GF, she have an android with 4 cameras. Thought “it must be expensive” as u must spend more than 1000 for an iphone with four cameras. Well, its a xiaomi that costs 240. I have to spend 3x for buy a base iphone with one camera...

Competitors devices doesnt costs like apple...
That’s not the answer to my question. If all is equal in ads, I may still find Apple’s overall user experience less bad than the alternatives. Time will tell.

yes of course, however by buying a premium product usually u have many other premium features included. noAds should be one of these...

I use an open source variant of android (AOSP), so lots of eye balls making sure Google doesn't sneak unnecessary tracking stuff into the OS. Added a firewall and root level and ad blocking, I've been ad-free for a long time.🤗😘
It wasn't easy, but it was worth the effort.😎

The last line… 😔 I used to deal with difficult tech by choice, but I just don’t have the patience or interest anymore.
