No one calls the iPhone by its full name "Apple iPhone" so 'Reality Pro' does roll off the tongue well.

Same is true for almost every device apple makes or has made like the Apple iPad, Apple iPod, Apple AirPods, Apple Newton, etc.
Thanks for this perspective. It does sound much better that way. The exceptions I can think of are Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Apple Pencil. Each of those is also a generic word for an object so maybe that’s why they specify “Apple” 🤷🏾‍♂️.

“Pro” doesn’t mean “professional”.
It’s just a marketing term for “better than the standard version”.
This isn’t just an Apple thing, or even a phone/tablet/computer thing.
It’s a thing throughout basically all industries.
I’ve seen vacuums and refrigerators and washing machines with “Pro” in the name.
It means the same thing everywhere, better, more expensive, more premium

This is one step closer to the Matrix inspired iBattery coming soon!

I’m really interested to see how Apple approaches VR. There are some pretty decent headsets out there already but I don’t see a massive market beyond gaming and porn at the moment - and Apple are not massive in either market.

Whatever Apple release, I’m pretty sure they’ll do it right but at $3,000 it’s obviously not designed to compete with the Meta Quest 2 and the often cartoon-style graphics.

I can’t imagine any upcoming headsets being used outside the home so, without any criticism and with a genuine curiosity, I do wonder what Apple intends to do with VR and what justifies such a high price tag.
What do you mean Apple is not big in porn? Have you not seen these unboxing videos?

It tends to mean second from the bottom for many Apple products.

Because, as all of the rumors have said, these are *not* glasses.
These are devices with screens that cover up all of your vision, what you’ll see from them come straight through the device’s cameras and micro-led displays.
The “glasses” aren’t rumored to come out until 2024 at the earliest, more likely 25-27
You could be right, but I kind of believe that this is really their launching point for a glasses makeover which could literally do to the traditional glasses what the iPhone did for the traditional cellphone. Not this particular model, but a year or two from now (like you mention) but based on the lessons learned from the launch of this device. By the time they are done with their master plan, they could end up reinventing the entire glasses industry.

Imagine instead of purchasing new frames and lenses each year, certified iGlasses optometrists will simply recalibrate your iGlasses during your checkup. And with the help of neural processors and data from your contacts and photos and messages and social media, your iGlasses will identify known contacts in sight and present you their recent messages. A couple versions later, we could see a pro model for hearing impaired designed to read lips and translate in real time.

It sounds crazy, but the technology is so close to being there, it’s only a matter of connecting the dots to make it work.

Apple has stepped away from calling new devices an "i"-device for some years now.
"i"-software (iPhoto, iTunes) has also been renamed by now.
Yeah but AppleGlasses doesn’t roll off the tongue as easily as iGlasses.

Maybe this time it stands for “prototype”.

"Apple is working on at least three augmented-reality...." sounds like me saying "I'm working on going to gym...." or my former GF saying "We will try anal sex..." 😂

The problem with glasses is weight and bulk, for the displays and associated lenses, and even more for the battery. I don’t think the necessary technological breakthroughs are there, in particular regarding battery usage.

Labels like “Plus” and “Pro” need to be used wisely because some things are either not Plus or Pro especially when it comes to Apple’s products. If its already a luxury product , just keep the name simple like any other luxurious product. If it’s not, incorporate more plastic material and add the letter “C”.

The "Pro" branding really needs to go. Very few items with that banner are at all pro level devices. WTF if "Pro" VR/AR exactly?

You just disappointed the pr0n industry.
The App store already did that because they're not allowed in.
Why not just call them, iGlasses?
Cause it sounds as lame as iGoggles.

This would be a good time to resurrect iSight. iSight VR sounds better to me than Apple Reality and they already have it trademarked.

Then, we all laughed at iPad and now it's just so normal it's easy to forget the maxipad jokes that went around for years.

As most of the heavy-lift processing will be in a user's iPhone, the battery that powers glasses and data link will be minimal.

The displays will require substantial power, as will the wireless connection for continuous transfer of hi-def stereo images if they are not generated on-device. For example, the HTC Vive Wireless Power Bank alone weighs 290 grams for 5 hours of usage time. I also suspect that AR displays will have to be brighter than VR displays, as they compete with the ambient lighting.

this headset is for developers and early adopters.
they will hype it up though.

I will be getting it day 1 for our studio, but don't expect many consumers will be jumping onto it, as the experience will be very limited at the original launch [like the phone / watch etc]

Any chance this could be the “one more thing” this week?

I suppose they wouldn’t want to distract from the iPhone, but whenever there is a new device, they pre-announce it well if advance in order to give developers time to start building stuff for it.
