Apple will begin accepting trade-ins of three new Mac models on June 5, the day of Apple's WWDC 2023 keynote event, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In a tweet shared earlier today, Gurman said that the Mac Studio, 13-inch M2 MacBook Air, and 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro, will become eligible for trade-in with Apple on Monday, June 5. Gurman is expecting new Mac hardware to be unveiled during Apple's keynote on June 5, including an all-new 15-inch MacBook Air model. "Read into that as you will," he added.

Apple introduced the Mac Studio in May 2022, offering M1 Max and M1 Ultra chip configurations. Despite the launch of a range of Macs with the M2, M2 Pro, and M2 Max chips, Apple has not yet refreshed the Mac Studio. Gurman believes that two new Mac Studio models are in the works, but is unsure of when they will launch.

He has previously cast doubt over the possibility of update being announced at WWDC, suggesting that Apple is more likely to wait until the M3 generation to update the Mac Studio as to avoid cannibalizing the Apple silicon Mac Pro. Even so, updated Mac Studio models with M2 Max and M2 Ultra chip options are not out of the question for WWDC.

13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with the M3 chip are also rumored to be in development, but the first M3 Macs are not expected to launch until toward the end of the year. As such, Gurman's latest information about new Mac trade-ins does not necessarily that indicate direct successors for all of the aforementioned devices are on the immediate horizon.

Why have there not been any Mac Pro rumors lately? I get that the goggles are the more exciting product, since they're a new category, but there were all these rumors about the Mac Pro coming soon and how the Mac Studio wasn't going to be updated because of competition with the Mac Pro, and how the Mac Pro will be a failure because it won't be upgradeable or modular, the one thing that differentiates the Mac Pro from other Macs...and all that went silent in favor of endless goggles rumors.

If the Mac Pro isn't announced at WWDC, then when is it coming? Next year? If so, when's the Mac Studio getting updated, 2025? Or is the Mac Studio truly a "stop-gap" product meant to tide people over until the Mac Pro is released?

Also, it'd be wild if they release an M2 15" Air alongside an M3 13" Air 😂

In 2023, the Mac Studio with the M1 Ultra is horribly overpriced. When it initially came out it made waves but fast forward today, you can get significantly more CPU and GPU performance in a PC for the same price. On desktop, performance per watt is is irrelevant. Apple Silicon is leading edge in laptops but on desktop, Apple can’t compete.

Apple’s trade in program has never applied to current generation devices, so if true this means upgrades to those machines. Unless Mac Pro is coming and they’re going to accept Mac Studio trade ins for those who want to upgrade from that? If M3 isn’t due to come until later this year what upgrade could the 13inch M2 Air actually get? Plausible the 13 inch MBP will be discontinued in favour of the 15” Air as the Mid-range option, hence why offering that as trade in, if not I don’t know what update could come to that without M3 either.

Could easily see the M2 rumors being off and the M3 coming out a year after the M2. A new 13" M3 Macbook Air and 13" M3 Macbook Pro alongside a 15" M3 Macbook just makes too much sense.
I agree, Gurman's leakers have gotten some bad information and the 15 inch Air is indeed coming with M3. Its gonna be a year since M2 debut in the Air. I am sure TSMC has made progress on manufacturing enough M3 meet demand for the Air and give them some time to have M3 Pro and Max models ready by October for the MacBook Pro's.
