They also need to do something about having multiple devices. Why when I say "Hey Siri, turn on my 6 a.m. alarm." from my bed does a different device respond every night? It could be my iPhone that's across the room on my dresser in my bedroom, my HomePod mini that's on my bedroom nightstand, the HomePod in the living room, etc.

Sometimes two or more of them set the alarm.

Very annoying.

With a homePod, iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch all in proximity, this was so annoying that I turned off iCloud for Siri and set them to different languages. The homePod gets "Hey, Siri," so that my wife can still use it. My iPad Pro gets "Dis, Siri." And my iPhone and Watch get "Oye, Siri."

The downside is that I can't text my wife in English on my Watch or iPhone, because Siri still can't handle multiple languages. In fact, that is my biggest complaint with Siri. The way it handles music means that I can't easily ask my homePod to play any music with non-English artists or titles.

So I'd like them to work on that.

This is troubling.

I have had Siri already say she can't understand what I said, or tried to answer something that I asked someone else. It doesn't happen very often, but it's damn freaky when it does. To have Siri listening to every conversation and wanting to chip in is going to make people test the aerodynamics of their iPhones for sure. Yikes, NO!!!

Never understood why they didn’t drop the “hey” years ago to compete with Alexa. U less Amazon has a patent on 1-word wake commands.

And that should take all of about a minute to update the code, so she responds with just Siri

Why not just scrap Siri and start over. Apple ignored Siri for like 5 years after introduction. Everyone else has moved on to something that works. Changing "Hey Siri" is not going to fix it.
I think a lot of privacy comprise happened for them other voice assistants to work well. One reason Siri works less well is because it’s not as invasive of your privacy. It doesn’t have as much access to your personal information.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Siri is borked, but the user here doesn't learn very fast and is about as smart as Siri.
Keep in mind this is a command that usually works trouble free on any other day. I had assumed it was simply misunderstanding what I was actually saying.

Is Siri even capable of doing something “in X minutes” - I’ve wanted that feature years - that and the ability to say “and” to link two enquiries together.

But who am I kinding, it’s got to the point where I have to ask it to turn the light on 3 times.
I usually tell it to turn off the fan in X minutes and it usually works. Yesterday was a one off as far as that one is concerned - but there are always sort of wacky inconsistencies with ANYTHING I ever ask it to do. Never know what you’ll get next.

What i need is a way to change "Siri" to something else entirely. My speech impairment makes it impossible to say that word in a way Siri recognizes. ☹️
Doubtful Apple will do this as it's product branding heard also by a surrounding audience. It would be great though. My Garmin from 2006 had the capability to customize trigger phrases.

Awesome. Apple wants your phone to be listening to everything you say now. Yay privacy!
Did you read the article? There would still be a trigger word, but it would simply be "Siri" instead of "Hey Siri"

Calling Siri without a trigger phrase? This is gonna be fun
There will still be a trigger phrase, but it'll simply be "Siri" instead of "Hey Siri".

I'm not sure if Macrumors reader just don't fully read the articles, just skim the headlines, or just have some serious reading comprehension issue, but I'm seeing more and more of these posts where the poster has obviously missed a key point in the article.

Conversely, Mercedes had a single word trigger phrase ("Mercedes") that constantly gave false positives. It was quite annoying. They switched to "Hey Mercedes" and all complaints were gone.

I wonder if Apple keeps track of how many times people tell Siri to "Go @#$@# yourself" after not working correctly.
It's been a while since I said this to Siri.
Didn't she used to reply with "Hey thats not nice," or something slightly witty.

Now she's replies in a very stern manner....

Sounds to me like the user is seeing how many different wrong responses they can get from the same request.

I would like to see Siri be able to have a whisper mode or something of the sort. Early in the morning when I’m trying to be quiet in the house Siri is the loudest thing! Also would like for less feedback about what action was completed, sometimes a “okay” or “done” is good enough.

Actual exchange I had last night:

Me: “Hey Siri, turn off the fan in 15 minutes”

HomePod: “I’m sorry, you must set automations at least one minute in advance”

Me: “Hey Siri, turn off the fan in 15 minutes”

HomePod: “I’m sorry, you must set automations at least one minute in advance”

Me: “Hey Siri, turn off the fan in 15 minutes”

HomePod: “I’m sorry, I’m not sure who’s speaking. Who is this?”

Me: “David”

HomePod: “I’m sorry, you must set automations at least one minute in advance”

Me: “Hey Siri, just turn off the fan”

Siri: “okay”
My favorite is:

Me: Hey Siri, turn the lights on for 15 minutes.

Siri: I’m sorry, i cannot schedule that for you.

Me: Sigh…

Hey Siri, turn the light on.

Siri: turns the light on

Me: Hey Siri turn the light off in 15 minutes.

Siri: I’ve set the light to turn off in 15 minutes.

Do you ever leave your house? There are cameras EVERYWHERE in public watching you! ;)

Not to mention Edward Snowden has already revealed that the NSA had access to any email address or phone on command. A system where they just type in an email address and boom, access…they can do almost anything. There is no such thing as privacy anymore and Snowden had told us exactly why and how…it’s still hilarious to me that people don’t believe FB and others skirt permissions and use the mic and camera whenever they want. 🤣
