Obviously the firmware in the original AirPod Pros cannot be programmed to quiet loud sounds. /s

However it's not mentioned in the known issues in the beta's feedback app. So, I am going to say this claim is false.
The known issues listed in the release notes are a subset of all known issues when the beta release was compiled, generally aimed at issues that developers should be aware of when building their code against the beta SDK, less on end-user facing bugs (although those sometimes are listed just to prevent a flood of bug reports for common issues).

Stuff like, "there's a memory allocation problem with UITableViewController that might crash your app when scrolling a large table view," not "we accidentally show a setting we shouldn't for old AirPods."

They aren't going to publish all known issues with iOS; there are probably many thousands of open bugs.

In my massively unscientific testing, I’d say the Adaptive feature works equally well on both AirPods Pro and AirPods Pro 2.

The promise of lowering environmental noise on the fly sounds nice and I suspect it works much better with steady loud sounds. Say like on an airplane.

I work at an animal shelter and it does absolutely nothing for the constant staccato of dog barking, and nothing for noise from car traffic which are the primary use cases for me.

I’d love if Apple allowed us to collect more meaningful usage data on our environments to help them improve their algorithms. Filtering animal noise from a shelter is a bit of a edge case, but also the sound of traffic can vary tremendously based on environmental factors and is a fairly common source of noise pollution the world over.

I swear the current Pros already do something similar. I don't get what the difference is on Pros 2. Do they only cancel out the loud noise, or do they also "mute" all sounds for a loud noise like the Pros do now? Anytime a loud siren or high-pitched noise is around while I am in Transparency mode, my AirPods will sound like they muted or switched to ANC mode temporarily.

Too bad. I actually had the help page up since last night to figure out where to find that update toggle. Guess I’ll check out this great feature in a couple of years or so when my currents AirPods loose steam. But what will I care by then?

Originally, the gen 1 AirPods Pro would automatically turn ANC on when a very loud noise (like a sirene or alarm) goes off. The gen 2 AirPods Pro trigger in the same situations but instead of turning ANC on, they stay in Transparency mode and only lowers the volume of those loud sounds instead of lowering everything.
