I want Apple to treat iOS 17 as they did iOS 6. So many details. Hits differently! This is what perfection looked like from Apple. 🥲

For the love of Jobs, please:
  • Slide to hang up call
  • Slide to dismiss alarm
  • Folder in App Library showing apps not in Home Screen
  • Nickname CarPlay vehicles
  • Nickname Automated Shortcuts
  • Nickname apps on Home Screen
  • Get Passwords out of Settings
  • Make some Notifications be able to survive a ‘Clear’
  • More than 9 apps on a Home Screen folder view
  • More than 9 pins in iMessage
  • Third-party app support in Control Center
  • Move Lock Screen customizations off the Lock Screen
  • Third-party app support in Lock Screen, as well as disabling shortcuts
  • Hide or categorize non-alerting iMessage conversations
  • Cache mailbox locally on iOS device
  • Revamp convoluted Camera UI
A lot of these aren’t feature requests, these are UI/UX deficiencies, plain and simple.

Don’t fall for the Apple PR trick, folks. This is classic Apple PR. Set low expectations, so even a small “surprise,” can be touted as “game changing,” “incredible,” “best every,” etc. No matter what happens, Apple will always refer to the newest version of iOS as “the most advanced operating system,” etc.

So they will have a 'bLoodPod' that will have to be 'installed' at an Apple Store to provide the data? Dexcom* uses their 'pod' to get direct data, so Apple isn't going to be able to 'fake it' or their 'solution' will face plant or be as usable as their pulse ox dodad.

* I have no idea how a Dexcom pod is applied so it might be able to be self-applied? And Dexcon users out there?

As with previous iPhone software updates, iOS 17 is expected to be previewed at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in June ahead of launching in the fall. The update could offer a range of enhancements and new features, such as a next-generation CarPlay experience, changes to Siri, support for sideloading and alternate app stores, support for Apple's mixed-reality headset, and more.
All sound like necessary updates for iOS 17. App Store changes will finally kick those complaints to the curb. But looks like this might be one of the most useful iOS updates in an awhile. Of course some of this pertains to iPadOS 17 also, maybe tvOS too.

Here's my wishlist:

1. redesign the notification center. It's ridiculous. At the very least add a "Clear All" button that comes up immediately, even if there's only one notification.

2. speaking of notifications, Apple needs to change that when you tap on the phone notifications it won't ring back. It needs to only go into the phone app. All other notifications take you to the app notifying you.
Be consistent Apple. People are constantly dialing back spam and robo callers. Apple needs to be on our side in this not the spammers.

3. make it possible to dismiss Calendar and any notification from any app if you're in another app.
This goes for Calendar, News, Timers...whatever the app, you shouldn't have to swipe the notification up and then go back to the lock screen or be forced to tap the notification to get into the app sending it in order to simply dismiss a notification if you're in another app when it comes in.

4. give us an LED visual on the front of the phone for notifications in addition to sound and vibration. Allow us to change the colors of the LED light based on what the notification app is.
The fine folks who like things the way they are can just leave this off and everything will be as is.

5. bring back the same intensity (or more) of the haptic feedback as it was when iOS 16 was first released.
It was great. Since then Apple has reduced it a little on every new release. Better yet, simply make it possible for people to adjust the haptic feedback.
Right now it's almost imperceptible, which is one step from being turned off anyway.
Those who are concerned with battery or simply don't like haptic feedback can leave it off.

6. make it possible to adjust volume for independent apps and settings and not this general thing they're doing.
Separate volume control for keyboard volume, music volume, ring volume, system volume, You Tube, notifications, emails.
I, for example, would love for the keyboard clicks and the lock sounds to be much louder than they are in relations with the rest of the volume in the phone and without it affecting the volume on the entire phone or the ring and notifications volume. It's silly of Apple to force it to be like this.

7. add suggestions from the address book as you start entering a phone number.
This has been available for the last 12-15 years on Android.

8. make it possible to customize the texting app in every conceivable way. Font size, bubble size shape color etc.

9. make it possible to schedule a text message to be sent at a certain time/date. This is a basic feature. Compose your message now and schedule it to be sent out when the time is right. I used to use this feature all the time when I had to text people who are in different time zones when they have to get the text at a certain time in their time zone but it's way too late for me to stay up to send the text. Just compose the text and it can be sent out while I'm sleeping or busy.

10. use an OS-wide clipboard and make cut and/or copy not expire until we, the users, clean it.
You should be able to copy text now and paste it tomorrow if you want to.
10b. make it possible to copy multiple copy entries ready to paste any one of them by long pressing, at least the last 10 cut/copies should be possible.

11. in Mail give us the option to NOT go to the next email when you are deleting an email but to go back to the inbox. Those who want to keep things the way they are should be able to turn this feature off.

12. make it possible to move the icons on the desktop anywhere you want to.

13. make it mandatory to app makers that they have to have a swipe from left to right in EVERY app to navigate back. Hitting a tiny arrow, like some of them have, at the top left on some apps and not on others to go back is inconsistent and nuts.

14. and my goodness Apple... as to snooze, allow us to cancel it before it comes on if we want to.
14b. make it possible for us to have any snooze time we want in the alarm. Not just 9 minutes and that's that. If we want to snooze for 10 minutes, or 5 minutes, or....whatever we should be able to.

Whoa whoa whoa they would need at least two major iOS releases to clean up all of the bugs these would introduce.

The only feature I want is to limit how much my battery charges. I’d like to limit charging to no more than 80%
If that does happen. How is Apple going to convince you to upgrade to a new iPhone next year? 😂

All jokes aside, I love the optimized charging on Apple Watch. It’s much more efficient, intelligent, and smarter than what we have in iOS. Yes, with optimized charging kicked in. It stops at 80%.

In addition, VoiceOver and other accessibility features need major bug fixes (I have seen reports of people having major issues with that in Ventura).
Glad to hear this is getting some recognition.
But Voice Over improvements and stability really REALLY needs to happen for iOS a lot more than the Mac.
16.4 is littered with constant freezes jumps and skips, and it’s very obnoxious.
The bugs for the Mac version are annoying, but definitely not any showstoppers, and there has been much worse in the past, looking at you macOS Sierra.

All I want is stability and performance upgrades. ✔️
This!
iOS 16.3.1 is still quite buggy. During this week i had to restart my iPhone 3 times😅

And on a personal request; wireless power share feature😊
It isn’t something I need, just want.
To lay your AirPods on your iPhone and charge the case.
Todays iPhone have so good battery so I don’t think this will be an issue, at least for the Pro’s and Pro Max’s.
However, I don’t think Apple going to implant this in a near future, but one can dream🙂

It really seems like the Apple and the tech industry has hit a wall. We have devices that are more powerful than needed, and can do so many things that we don’t even have some must-have or highly desired capability that we can look forward to. Some of that may simply be we all don’t know what we’re missing until someone shows us, but like others have commented, there are plenty of iterative fixes Apple should address. One thing that annoys me on a daily basis is how I’ll check my phone for emails, reading them as they come in and I’ll get notifications of emails I’ve already read pop up. That’s sloppy that iOS can’t recognize that I’m in Mail and don’t need Mail notifications.
That is entirely on Mail to not show the notification. I’m an iOS app developer, and when your app receives a notification, you can intercept it and decide not to actually show it to the user.

Clearly, Apple have decided in the Mail team that it’s desired functionality to always show it.

Agreed. I think part of the reason that we have new features all the time is to keep us excited about our smartphones (and buy new ones).

I’d love them to just fix what they have - for the most part *cough* Siri, Apple Music being an inspiring mess - and roll major new features into hardware.

There’s lots of little quality of life tweaks that can be done in the meantime.

Non fixed home screen icon placement , as many here have said.

Making the lock screen editing work better.

More customisation for both the Home Screen and Lock Screen.

Tidy up of Settings app.

And as you said, better notification syncing between at least apple apps on different apple devices.

(IMHO I think the Mac and iPadOS need a lot more work re starting to bring them closer together. iOS is in a pretty good shape, although I’m sure we’ll get a redesign in 18 based on realityOS)

Wonder if they’re going to keep the system requirements for iOS 17 andmacOS 14 and the same to avoid some of the criticism from last year.
iOS 8 and 9, 11 and 12, 13 14 and 15 all kept the exact same system requirements.
Mac OS X mountain lion, Mavericks, Yosemite and El Capitan all had the same system requirements, as did sierra and High Sierra, as did Mojave and Catalina.
iPad OS it’s slightly different since they still support devices all the way back from 2015, but I could easily see them cutting off A9 and A9X devices (first generation iPad pros and fifth generation 2017 budget iPad) but keeping everything else the same.

Apple needs to give users the ability in the Settings app on both iOS/macOS to sort the settings into alphabetical order. The current iteration is a mess, settings in random places that make no sense and hard to find. Also the App Library on iPadOS needs the ability to sort apps into alphabetical order, or give users the ability to sort apps into their own categories.
