I think it’s hilarious that the same people who say “if it’s broke, don’t fix it” when it comes to the mute switch are now saying the exact opposite when it comes to the… checks notes… app icons?
“Just change them,” they say. “It doesn’t matter that billions, literally billions of people are used to them and know what they are, change them anyway.”
I think Apple should update the icons to be identical to the macOS ones by default (which are basically the same as the current iOS ones with a bit of a newer look), and also have an easier option for app icon customization for those who want something completely different. But even with just the app icon customization with no change to the default icons, I could choose to switch them to the macOS style ones, and probably would.

Anyone who used Leopard and Snow Leopard in the Mac will welcome another release like that for the iPhone.

Now hopefully Apple doesn't try to be "smart" and try to do the same for the iPad. This big boy needs to catch up with the latest iOS features plus fix the implementation of Stage Manager. Instead of giving us Mission Control Apple tried to reinvent the wheel and it didn't work out.

Bug fixes don’t sell anything. They’re expected from the consumer. They have to add something to keep the hype train chugging along or things get stale. They need something to advertise.

A large portion of their target demographic is teens and 20 something’s, and when you’re that age a year is an ETERNITY. To go 2 years with essentially the same OS (from the user’s perspective), things become boring, they move on.

IMO that’s why we’ll never see another bug fix release. If they were going to do it, I think a year where they just change the theming/icons and don’t do other new features would be the time to do it, if ever

Try Maps.me works great anywhere, oven no cellular no wifi. Routes, see individual buildings. Used it in Cuba no problemo.

Let’s see how there internal processes with software development is this time around and how much it differs from previous years

including:
- Unit testing, Feature testing, Stress racks
- Internal “living-on” testing (engineers running the releases under development on there main devices and test and report issues)
- Seeding (to well over a million people), resulting in Feedback Assistance reports as well as automated telemetry

I would like to see this on IOs 17 or on a Update soon. First it would be amazing if apple would would let us do this on Iphone, to let us customize our Home screen, notification center, or settings appearance(Like red Dots/numbers).

Next when it comes on deleting/clearing apps on lock screen it would be nice to have a CLEAR ALL instead of closing one app at a time.

Third, (Attachment example below for this)I'm glad we got Battery Percentage back on the top of the home screen, but if only they could switch the right top service logo and the Wifi logo from right to the left side instead, like it used too(before Iphone X) and instead of having it on right top they can just leave more space for the battery percentage(Picture Example Below the Great Example and Right Way to have it).
-I still use iPhone SE due to this and I never upgraded since Iphone 8 only to an SE

Lastly, a notification led light would be nice too.

These are only a few changes I would like to see in the future. Hopefully someone sees this.

Here's my wishlist:

1. redesign the notification center. It's ridiculous. At the very least add a "Clear All" button that comes up immediately, even if there's only one notification.

2. speaking of notifications, Apple needs to change that when you tap on the phone notifications it won't ring back. It needs to only go into the phone app. All other notifications take you to the app notifying you.
Be consistent Apple. People are constantly dialing back spam and robo callers. Apple needs to be on our side in this not the spammers.

3. make it possible to dismiss Calendar and any notification from any app if you're in another app.
This goes for Calendar, News, Timers...whatever the app, you shouldn't have to swipe the notification up and then go back to the lock screen or be forced to tap the notification to get into the app sending it in order to simply dismiss a notification if you're in another app when it comes in.

4. give us an LED visual on the front of the phone for notifications in addition to sound and vibration. Allow us to change the colors of the LED light based on what the notification app is.
The fine folks who like things the way they are can just leave this off and everything will be as is.

5. bring back the same intensity (or more) of the haptic feedback as it was when iOS 16 was first released.
It was great. Since then Apple has reduced it a little on every new release. Better yet, simply make it possible for people to adjust the haptic feedback.
Right now it's almost imperceptible, which is one step from being turned off anyway.
Those who are concerned with battery or simply don't like haptic feedback can leave it off.

6. make it possible to adjust volume for independent apps and settings and not this general thing they're doing.
Separate volume control for keyboard volume, music volume, ring volume, system volume, You Tube, notifications, emails.
I, for example, would love for the keyboard clicks and the lock sounds to be much louder than they are in relations with the rest of the volume in the phone and without it affecting the volume on the entire phone or the ring and notifications volume. It's silly of Apple to force it to be like this.

7. add suggestions from the address book as you start entering a phone number.
This has been available for the last 12-15 years on Android.

8. make it possible to customize the texting app in every conceivable way. Font size, bubble size shape color etc.

9. make it possible to schedule a text message to be sent at a certain time/date. This is a basic feature. Compose your message now and schedule it to be sent out when the time is right. I used to use this feature all the time when I had to text people who are in different time zones when they have to get the text at a certain time in their time zone but it's way too late for me to stay up to send the text. Just compose the text and it can be sent out while I'm sleeping or busy.

10. use an OS-wide clipboard and make cut and/or copy not expire until we, the users, clean it.
You should be able to copy text now and paste it tomorrow if you want to.
10b. make it possible to copy multiple copy entries ready to paste any one of them by long pressing, at least the last 10 cut/copies should be possible.

11. in Mail give us the option to NOT go to the next email when you are deleting an email but to go back to the inbox. Those who want to keep things the way they are should be able to turn this feature off.

12. make it possible to move the icons on the desktop anywhere you want to.

13. make it mandatory to app makers that they have to have a swipe from left to right in EVERY app to navigate back. Hitting a tiny arrow, like some of them have, at the top left on some apps and not on others to go back is inconsistent and nuts.

14. and my goodness Apple... as to snooze, allow us to cancel it before it comes on if we want to.
14b. make it possible for us to have any snooze time we want in the alarm. Not just 9 minutes and that's that. If we want to snooze for 10 minutes, or 5 minutes, or....whatever we should be able to.
Yes!

There's many things that can be changed. I'm only going to say a few changes I would like to see soon, IOs 17 would look great if they let us customize our Home screen, notification center, or settings appearance. Next when it comes on deleting/clearing apps on lock screen it would be nice to have a CLEAR ALL instead of closing one app at a time. Third, I'm glad we got Battery Percentage back on the home screen but if only they could leave the logo and battery percentage on the right top side and put the Wifi and Service logos next to the clock on the top left side. Lastly, a notification light would be nice too.
These are only a few changes I would like to see in the future. Hopefully Apple listens

Agreed. Though iOS 7 did have a very clean, cohesive and fun look. They’ve watered it down since then, the colors are more subdued, the icons are smaller, transparency is toned down, etc… & nothing beats helvetica neue for me 😍

iOS 1-6 gives me cozy vibes, 7 and up more of an airy, summertime look. It would be cool to be able to swap between them honestly for different times of year or moods. Come on Apple, we have the technology :)

They watered down the add colors even in the initial iOS 7 betas. But that's a neat interpretation of how they feel, I agree with that.

I'm always thinking about when iOS 7 first came that I should've kept my 4S on iOS 6 for as long as possible. And what's crazy is that in April of 2104, 7 months after iOS 7 released, they essentially killed FaceTime on iOS 6 and before

Just let it be a bug free experience, not frigg up my HomeKit accessories and for the love of God allow me to permanently group airplay speakers (eg Sonos and HomePod mini) and I’ll be happy.

Apple changed the strategy for iOS 17 later in its development process to add several new features, suggesting that the update may be more significant than previously thought, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports.

iOS-17-on-Phone-Feature.jpg

In January, Gurman said that iOS 17 could be a less significant update than iPhone updates in previous years due to the company's intense focus on its long-awaited mixed-reality headset. Writing in his latest "Power On" newsletter, Gurman explained that a change of strategy during the update's development process has added several new features:As with previous iPhone software updates, iOS 17 is expected to be previewed at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in June ahead of launching in the fall. The update could offer a range of enhancements and new features, such as a next-generation CarPlay experience, changes to Siri, support for sideloading and alternate app stores, support for Apple's mixed-reality headset, and more.

Are any of the items listed in the last paragraph even if the “most requested” variety by mainline users?

The article isn’t saying that these are necessarily the “most requested features” in iOS 17. These changes are expected due to other existing information, and the requirements of the EU’s Digital Markets Act.

Hope this release will not make iOS equivalent to Android
Ya, I have an iPad and an Android tablet, and I basically never use the Android tablet. Nothing on Android is aesthetically or functionally better than iPadOS and iOS in my opinion, and there’s a lot more limited software options for the things I do than on iPadOS.

It’s useless feature. We will always work on one app at a time when other apps minimised even on laptops.
I agree for the most part, I’ve almost always been a one app window at a time user, but Stage Manager has broken me from that a little bit. What I like is that Stage Manager does the “managing” aspect of app windows, so I can just use them and not have to worry about aligning them so that I can re-surface one that I want to use. Split View wouldn’t necessarily be bad on a larger iPhone, but I don’t know that I’d really use it. That said, it could still be an option for those who do want to use it. And about app icons anywhere on the Home Screen, personally, that would drive me nuts. I actually wish that macOS would have an automatic snap grid on the desktop, because I constantly have to use the “clean up” function to get everything aligned properly. A bunch of randomly scattered icons looks sloppy, so I think even if they make that an option, the grid should still be the default. A grid view looks so much better and cleaner, so I really don’t understand why people want to throw them around like pasta at a wall on their Home Screen.

Folks, this is the most advanced iOS 17 update Apple has ever released! Think of how more advanced iOS 17.1, 17.2. 17.3, etc. will be! Each and every version will be the most advanced shipped version Apple has ever shipped! Apple can’t wait to see the incredible new things customers can do and pros. are going to love the most pro-level features Apple has ever delivered in iOS. And, don’t forget iOS 18, which will further push Apple to take things to the next level!

Apple actually touted improvements to phone-call functionality, but no mention of fixing the iPhone's oldest and most pathetic defect: the lack of notifications for missed calls.

Changes like what? You realize that "smart" phones are now a mature product category, right? Are you similarly outraged by the lack of changes to the current crop of word processors?
