Bloomberg's Mark Gurman expects next-generation iPad Pro models to launch in the fall of this year, according to his latest newsletter.

In his "Power On" newsletter, Gurman speculated that since Apple did not launch new iPad Pros this month at its "Peek Performance" event, it is reasonable to now expect new models to arrive between September and November this year. In a previous report, Gurman said that Apple was planning "the wildest array of new hardware products in its history" for the fall of 2022, and this selection of new releases now looks increasingly likely to include updated iPad Pro models.

As the MacRumors Buyer's Guide shows, new iPad Pro models have launched in March 2016, June 2017, October 2018, March 2020, and April 2021, meaning that Apple seems to take between 13 and 16 months to update the product line. Gurman's expectation seems to suggest a longer timeframe for the iPad Pro this year, postulating that its launch could be up to 19 months after the release of the current model. This also means that the current, 2021 iPad Pros could be among the longest-lasting models to date.

There have been few rumors about the next-generation iPad Pro in recent months, but Gurman affirmed that he expects the new iPad Pro models to feature MagSafe charging, as well as the "M2" chip. The M2 chip is expected to have the same 8-core CPU as the ‌M1‌, but will benefit from speed and efficiency improvements thanks to TSMC's 4-nanometer process. It is also rumored to have additional GPU cores, with 9- and 10-core GPU options, up from the 7- and 8-core GPU options in the ‌M1‌ chip.

In my mind, the story and focus should be on the new iPadOS. The M2 chip and MagSafe are gimmick sales tactics without a more robust OS.
hey people bought the 2021 ipad pro with 16gb. it was useless and a waste of money but still apple made $

i hope we get a better iPad OS but i wouldn't be surprised if apple just keeps beefing it up and still runs a pitiful smartphone OS on it.

I have to agree with this. I like my iPad Pro, but it feels so hampered by the OS as soon as I try to be productive. So many things take too many steps or are just awkward. I honestly feel that for the majority of people there's little point to a more powerful system without a more powerful OS to match.

Not a chance, Apple will not change its display technology in a product after only 1 generation. There are rumors that some iPads may be OLED by 2023 or 2024, but for this year there's no way it will not be mini-LED.
I'm gonna stick with my 2017 iPad Pro 10.5" as long as possible. (I have no white spot yet on its display.)

As an end user, and not a creative professional, I have very little interest in mini-LED. I'd be happy to wait for OLED if such a model were expected to come out in 2023. If 2024, that may be a bit long for me, but we shall see. However, if something does come out this fall, maybe the next model will be spring 2024. I can probably wait that long, and then one of my kids will get my hand-me-down iPad Pro 2017. Hopefully their iPad Air 2s last that long, but so far they have not complained about the performance of the iPad Air 2.

Maybe, but this is a Gurman rumour and Gurman is generally not a leaker of OS info.

You are right. A lot of people continue to buy the top specced iPads in spite of the OS; and Apple will continue on the same path. I don't see that scenario changing any time soon.

Very keen to replace my iPad Pro 10.5. Despite three warranty replacements it's been a good companion for almost 5 years and now is time for an upgrade. Wasn't impressed with the Air this year (no ProMotion) so am waiting for the next Pro.

Yes, I agree and it will be interesting to see what happens at WWDC. However, Apple is very aware of the balance needed to keep iPadOS extremely simple. As long as MacOS exists (and it's not going anywhere anytime soon) Apple will always prioritize keeping iPadOS simplicity as that's what majority of it's users need.

I understand they can create hidden complexity for power users, but I can't see them creating complexity at the expense of simplicity. It's a difficult thing to do.

It’s generally easier to get hardware leaks (especially from suppliers whom Apple does not have full control over) rather than internal software plans which is easier to keep within corporate walls.

I'd like to downsize my 12.9" iPad Pro to 11" if they bring the new display technology to the smaller device.

I may be in a minority, but I wish I could get either an iPad Air with the display of the Pro or opt for an iPad Pro with an A15/A16 chip. For my use cases all the extra GPU cores and power of the M1 (or X variants) is largely wasted and, in my opinion, battery life on the recent Pros is only "okay."
