Yeah, I have one cable, that I can charge my Mac, iPad, PC Laptop, iPhone and Sony XM5. Yet I would have to keep a lightning around to charge one device.
Imagine the horror, the tragedy, the absolute terror of having to carry.. wait for it... TWO CABLES!! OH NOOOOO. People are so overly dramatic about absolutely nothing. It cracks me up. Like, is a second cable going to really weigh you down that much? Is it the difference between life and death when you run away from a random tiger or something? Am I missing something with this? lol.

A lot of people, apparently, judging from how many pairs I see out in the wild these days. They're on the heads of young, fashion-forward types and just generally a younger demographic from what I see. Not necessarily "tech enthusiast" type people. I'm even seeing a ton of knockoffs in NYC, so they're clearly an aspirational purchase these days.

People going on about USB-C seem to forget that aside from the 15, every iPhone out in the world is charging with a lightning port, so it's not at all inconvenient for a lot of people to just use the same cord they're using to charge their phone.
I'm in the market for a set of Airpod Max and I definitely won't buy unless they come with USB-C. How long are people using their high end headphones? I hope at least 5 years. Even if the majority of iphones right now is still lightning, I really don't want to keep a lightning cable around for the next 5 years when literally every other tech device in my household charges via USB-C already today.

In a report detailing some final expectations for the September 9 Apple event, Gurman said that the company is still working on a new version of the AirPods Max with new color options and a USB-C port instead of Lightning. This product refresh has been rumored for some time, but with plenty of AirPods Max inventory still in stock, Gurman suggested that the new model may not arrive until later.
If Apple is waiting until AirPods Max inventory is down to a certain level before introducing new AirPods Max, we have a long wait unless Apple and other retailers significantly drop prices -- let's say under $275 or at least 50% off.

Agree replacing the lightning port is a must for a new gen. But I'm still working with an older iPad Mini, a pair of AirPods Pro 2 and a Magic Keyboard that need a lightning cable. (And, there are worse connectors in my life, like micro USB for my ereader and a bluetooth speaker.) My strategy is to keep USB-C charging cables everywhere and occasionally add a little lightning dongle to the end. Minorly annoying, but for me it rates like a 2/10 on the inconvenience scale.

Because it doesn't matter?

The root problem (largely of Apple's making) is that 8 years after they prematurely forced USB-C on MacBook users they've only recently put USB-C on the top end iPhone and they're still selling iPhone 14s with Lightning - so someone is going to have to carry two cables.

To Apple's credit, though, all their chargers come with USB A or C sockets and detachable cables, so at least you don't have to carry two chargers - and its not as if the headphones will perform any better with USB-C.

Highly recommend battery service. It's $80 and super effective in getting your battery back to where it was when you bought them. In my case, they actually replaced the entire right earcup and the headband -- and I've read online several other people saying they were just handed a new (refurbished) pair.
At this point I'd be happy if they just cut the price of the current Apple TV....

I would be shocked if the next AirPods Max do not include a new SoC (be it H2 or H3).

As to why they have yet to release it yet, stock levels on the existing model make sense. We have seen them discounted deeper and deeper at third-party outlets like Amazon so I could see Apple using them to draw down supply and soak up some sales to customers who are interested in them, but do not want to spend $500 (and would still not spend that for a model with USB-C and a new SoC).

The AppleTV thing is strange. It's totally like, Apple's sleeper hit device. And people who buy them and have them on every TV in the home (like me, I have 5 or 6 of them) love them being updated to swap them out. I have no idea why. Some sort of musical chairs where you take the 2022 model, stick it in the bedroom, remove the 2017 one, gift it, get the 2024 for the bigger ones. Some bizarre addiction. ha.

They will delete lightning all at once with new (same but usb-c) AirPods Max, AirPods 4, iMac m4 with usb-c keyboard and mouse and trackpads, iPhone SE… it will be like lightning never existed

I gave up waiting on a new APM and bought the QC Ultra. They're my preferred headphones over APM Gen 1. QCU has USB-C and the clamping force is dramatically better. APM fills the gap when the QCU need charging. The worst attribute of the QCU is they cannot be used while charging.

It's shocking that Apple would wait 4 years to update APM. It would be even more astonishing that a new version has even a single feature gap from cheaper AP models.

I think the new Apple TV won't arrive until next year. Reason: they will be using the A18 SoC. There's only enough A18's to supply the iPhone 16 for now, but by spring 2025 the Apple TV will also switch to the A18 so the Apple TV can get Apple Intelligence features.

Ha this is a funny but absolutely true. I would love to have a new Apple TV released for the cascading effect on my other TVs. Living room is updated, old one moved to bedroom, old one from bedroom, moved to basement, basement one sold or donated to family.

CrabApplePro has reported the exact opposite: The AirPods Pro are to be one of the stars of the event.

and even posted a rendering

Minus the crazy colors and Apple logo, that just looks like any regular headphones, doesn’t it? And wired no less. I doubt Apple would make anything like this. Beats maybe, but for sure neither would make it wired.

I still find this depressing AirPods Max rumor difficult to believe. After four years, the only update will be so minor that the AirPods Max will remain first gen? It's the stupidest rumor I've ever heard. It seems to come from only Gurman too. Yet he keeps sticking to it. It's been over a year now that he's been saying this. I guess we'll just have to find out...

Read what you wrote. Now who's being dramatic?

Regards Apple TV. There was a rumour here today about 8k video POSSIBLE for iPhone 16 but more likely 17.

Surely that would delay the 8K Apple TV until then because you'd want to play the footage on it?

And new Apple productions in 8K to fill up content, etc.

The only clue I can see for 8k on iPhone 16P would be rumoured 2TB storage.

Why would anyone buy and device with lightning in 2024, particularly a high end one.
Because what connector it has is probably last in my list of priorities (and probably it’s the same for the huge majority of people).

Depending on your setup (whether you have more lightning or USB-C products) you could prefer one or another, but it’s completely irrelevant when deciding what product to buy. When you think about it, it makes sense - it’s just a cable.

I’d be completely okey if they upgrade the APM in meaningful ways but keep lightning.
