Apple's next-generation iPad Pro models with the M5 chip will "launch this year," according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In his Power On newsletter today, Gurman said the new iPad Pro models have progressed to an "advanced testing" stage, and he expects mass production of the devices to begin in the second half of this year. If that timeframe is met, the new iPad Pro models could launch around October, which is when the 2018 and 2022 models debuted.

Apple last released new iPad Pro models in May 2024. It was a big year for the iPad Pro, which received its first-ever OLED display, a thinner and lighter design, the M4 chip, support for the new Apple Pencil Pro, and more. This year, the iPad Pro will likely receive a much smaller update, with no major upgrades rumored beyond the M5 chip.

Similarly, Gurman expects new MacBook Pro models with M5 chips to launch later this year, but no other major changes are expected. Previous rumors have claimed that the MacBook Pro will receive a major redesign next year, with an OLED display and a thinner design, so we recommend waiting until late 2026 to buy a new MacBook Pro if possible.

Time flies so fast lately, I feel like these iPads were released a month ago.
Do we even need updates every 1-1,5 year? Especially with iPads that are limited by a software?

Nope!

Apple are totally out of good new ideas and so it's "spec bumps & subscription services"

From an innovation standpoint, we are functionally at "late stage Apple".

The iPads are not "limited by software."

iPads are limited because they are nothing but a rectangular piece of glass.

No amount of "software" is going to turn an 11 to 13 inch sheet of glass into a MacBook replacement or whatever all the people who say "this machine is limited by software" thinks it should turn into.

But software! Well, finish the thought? What should it be if "software" is no longer as obstacle? What are you iPad people complaining about software looking for? Should it turn into a toy robot or car?

I was going to buy a Pro M2, which is more than capable, but wonder if it is worth waiting for the inevitable M4 sales now.
I didn’t upgrade my m2 because I already had it, but if I was buying a new one, I’d definitely try to hunt for a good offer on the M4 ones. That OLED screen is sweet

Maybe you have missed that expensive keyboard that pretty much turns it into a laptop.

Wow, so number goes up? Hire me, I can do journalism. Sources tell me that in 2026 Apple releases the M6 iPad Pro. Shocking, right?

It should run a real OS

Like one that allows me to have multiple audio sources playing without muting one or the other

(to just barely even scratch the surface of issues with GimpediPadOS)

Hopefully next iPad Pro will be less expensive, and nano texture option available on base model. The option on 1 To model only is absurd, from a user perspective. Also because it’s a « pro », base storage should be 512 go like for the MBP
