It’ll be hard to believe if they really do go with the notch. Cheap Android phones have been doing the hole punch for years.
It’s not always about function or the latest technology. I’m sure they have a lot invested in the years that they’ve been building out the notch screen, this just lets them get more return on that investment for another few years, it helps them keep the margins on the SE high. It’s also an ionically iPhone design, so even if it’s perhaps be becoming outdated, people buying the iPhone SE 4 will not feel out of place from other iPhone users.

I don’t understand Apple‘s thinking in this. Why would you have a phone that has almost all of the technology as the 16 and at a much lower price??? I also wonder what will they do with our older population who will not be able to navigate a buttonless phone. I personally enjoy the smaller size of the SE and just purchased another one a month ago just for this reason.

But Apple has very smart people that must’ve thought about this stuff as opposed to random people on the Internet talking about it.

My mum is going to be so annoyed that they aren’t small anymore. I could get her a 3 while I can but I’d prefer to get her the newest tech

Consider the 13 mini too if she really wants a small phone. Smaller than the SE 3 but with a bigger and better screen, Face ID, etc. Available at great prices from refurb stores.

Most people, including myself with my iPhone 12, have no real reason to upgrade. If you do not require the latest camera tech, the new SE might be most people's best phone option. And while Macs still have a way to go to reach Windows w/ Nvidia GPU performance (which some of us require for work), the M1 Mac is also probably the best PC for most people.

Wow, really? The older population I know, including my parents, can navigate their buttonless phones just fine. But you can use the Assistive Touch option to add a virtual home button if you really do need that.

Because they won't refresh it for another 3 years, so it'll rather quickly become outdated. Just like the current SE.

I've had every SE - the whole point for me was the small size. I don't want a large screen - I have iPads and Mac's for that.
What do I do now?
If you've had every iPhone SE, then a 6.1-inch iPhone shouldn't bother you.

I've owned every iPhone SE as well and currently have both an iPhone SE 3 and an iPhone 14 (6.1-inch screen) and it's bigger than the SE by a tiny tiny bit. Hardly noticeable.

iPhone SE 3 vs iPhone 14

Height 5.45 inches (138.4 mm) vs 5.78 inches (146.7 mm)
Width 2.65 inches (67.3 mm) vs 2.82 inches (71.5 mm)
Depth 0.29 inch (7.3 mm) vs 0.31 inch (7.80 mm)

I have no interest in the SE 4 so I just ordered an SE 3 from Apple.

My opinion only but a smaller size is more important to me than the new features.
The overall dimensions of the SE 4 (if it's based on an iPhone 13 and 14) isn't really that much bigger than an iPhone SE 3. I have both and it's hardly noticeable.

Apple plans to announce a new iPhone SE this week, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In his Power On newsletter today, and a corresponding social media post, Gurman said the new iPhone SE is "coming this week." Until now, he said that Apple planned to announce the device "as early as" this week, but his wording is now more firm.

Apple has not scheduled an event, so the new iPhone SE will likely be announced in a press release published on the Apple Newsroom website.

The so-called iPhone SE 4 is rumored to feature a mix of iPhone 14 and iPhone 16 features, including a 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID, a USB-C port, a single 48-megapixel rear camera, and the first Apple-designed 5G modem. With the A18 chip, and a rumored 8GB of RAM, the device is also expected to support Apple Intelligence.

The current iPhone SE resembles an iPhone 8, with outdated features such as an A15 Bionic chip, Touch ID home button, Lightning port, and thick bezels around the display. Pricing starts at $429, but a price increase towards $499 seems probable for the next model.

Any news about the new iPad basic model? I can't believe Apple hasn't update it for like 3 years

You forgot about the rest of the UK.

I'm specifically referring to English accents here, which have regional and class variations in the way "Tuesday" is pronounced. Scotland, Wales, and Ireland of course have their own different accents which may or may not have similarities to the various English pronunciations.

And don't get me started about the way they pronounce "three" in Ireland!

It’ll be hard to believe if they really do go with the notch. Cheap Android phones have been doing the hole punch for years.

I just wish they'd merge the Dynamic Island with the notch. The notch doesn't bother me, but I want a cool animated island in a cheaper phone!

Why do I feel like Mark Gurman isn't actually a leaker and is instead fed bits of information by Apple directly to drum up hype in the press? Because if he was a GENUINE leaker, wouldn't they have shut him down by now?
Because he usually is good press about them. It is a win win situation between Apple and Gurman.
How would they go about shutting him down? He doesn't work at Apple nor has he ever signed an NDA with Apple.
They could try harder to find who the leaker/leakers are… But they are ok with “controlled leaks”.

Yes, CHEAP Android phones are doing the hole punch, a CHEAP solution with no security whatsoever .

I’m not sure I follow. iPhones all have mostly the same, if not identical, sensors on the front, and Apple has been putting the redesigned FaceID sensor that fits into the hole punch for the third year now. I can’t imagine the cost difference for paying for a hole punch display versus a notch is that significant in 2025.
Nope. Apple isn’t putting sensors in an hole punch. They are in a pills shape, which is significantly bigger than a hole punch.

True, but remember, the new SE isn’t an all-new design. It’s said to be based on the iPhone 14 chassis, which had the notch. Apple would have saved money by re-using iPhone 14 designs, parts, tooling, etc.
Considering Apple has been forced to retire all the iPhone 14 from EU market (due to lightning connector vs USB C), this could be a good way to use all the iPhone 14 panels in a “new” product. Keep an existing production line open for a few years is way cheaper than open a new one for a new panel.

IF this has the 18 and 6.1" screen and more then why did I get everyone in the family a 16?
A 16 has a better display, MagSafe connector (most probably missing from the SE) and a better camera setup.
I've had every SE - the whole point for me was the small size. I don't want a large screen - I have iPads and Mac's for that.
What do I do now?
Do you realize that from a 6.1” to an iPad display there is a huge gap ? Do you realize you cannot really use an iPad as an iPhone ?
Your is a nonsense.
iPhone SE current design is outdated and very poor, with tons of bezels around a tiny display.
Thats not really an option when you have 2 iPads and 3 Mac's.
The point is they appear to have eliminated a whole market sector. If I wanted a 6.1" screen I'd get an iPhone16.
iPhone 16 costs more.
