It’s a pity because most of their products are due to a refresh or spec bump (or at least a huge discount) that make them future-proof, specially the MacBook 13”.

It needs to get at least a USB-C port on its right hand side

Love to see this but wouldn't it steal the show from the iPhone? That's basically a permanently-unfolded iPhone Fold with pro features... at what will probably be about half an actual iPhone Fold/Roll price and fully usable for about 2X-3X longer than iPhones (the so called "long in tooth" effect).

And yes, install a VOIP app and it can be a phone & texting device too (buds with mic)- I already do this with cellular iPad Mini. Because telephony is only an app (like flashlight, tape measure, maps, etc) it works just fine for phone & texting functions too.
Appreciate it seems odd, but I’ve heard rumblings. Could be completely wrong though. Don’t think it would steal the show at all.

iMac - the forgotten Mac.

Besides that, every thread with a new (really recycled) rumor needs to come with a rating for the rumor-monger: how accurate have they been in the past?

It’s certainly not forgotten, it did after all get a total redesign just a few years ago. I do think however Apple probably got the strategy wrong on this iMac however and this is probably why they haven’t updated it since. That and launching just after the Covid computer boom was fading likely means they’ve likely got a lot of stock to shift.

Where I feel they went wrong was in taking the proposition of the iMac back to its roots as an easy to use, affordable computer for everyone. Yes it was fun to see the colours back but the market that existed in 1998 just isn’t there in the 2020s with laptops and tablets now largely making it up.

The iMac over the years had shifted towards the prosumer market where a desktop Mac made sense with a large screen and processing power. The current iMac with its smaller screen and fanless processor just doesn’t appeal to that market as the previous generation did.

Personally I feel the iMac needs to go back to what it was offering before. Yes you always have the market for people who want a simple home computer but it also needs to be able to scale to offer something to the prosumer to succeed. A larger screen paired with a thicker body with less constrained internals is the way to go.

We all think we know just about exactly what is coming in iPhone 15 down to colors and even cable colors. Is there any surprise at all left there?

Meanwhile, nobody seems to expect an iPad Mini Pro: possibly spec update in a 7, but not something with new Pro features. Personally, I don't even expect the 7 just yet, so a Pro would be quite a surprise to me.

If both are announced together, I would think phone will be "ho, hum, exactly what we thought..." (with some) "I'm keeping my <older phone another year>" but iPad Mini Pro would actually have a number of first-time ever (in that product) features to discuss. This is why I think it could "steal" the show.

iPhone will still get all the orders from those already decided on buying and/or those who simply need a new one (so this feeling is not about revenue)... but I suspect the conversations after the show would talk about the surprises... of which there seems few for this iPhone unless there's a Fold/Roll or Ultra model "one more thing." We'll all see soon enough.

Well, I am one of those who wants an affordable computer.

As for screen size - so many people go with 14" or even 13" portables these days that I think the quest for giant screens is a small share of the market.

Not everyone hooks their 14" laptop into a 30" screen at home. I bet most laptop owners never hook up their computer to a large screen.

For me, my wants are simple:
1) durability - I don't want it to break;
2) longevity - give me at least 10 years for a desktop computer;
3) affordability - yeah, money matters.

The iMac can fit that market (of which I am a part.) It has fit that market in the past.

Power users are much better off with a Mac Studio. Indeed, the refurb store has M1 Max Mac Studios at a price which is attractive as it comes with 32GB, and to get a current M2 Mini one pays a lot for that jump to 32GB. And the M1 Max Mac Studio likely will perform fine for most people. The really hard-core generative AI types go for PCs with very expensive graphic cards anyway, as do the gaming nuts who want high refresh rates.

(Gee... did I just talk myself into buying an M1 Max Studio refurb? I would go for it if Apple didn't demand such a high price for their displays.)

Can we get a new Apple Pencil with swipe gestures instead of fapping

What are you doing with your Apple Pencil?

I think the high end iMacs were just an accident of there being just one large display size they wanted to use and the lack of a DisplayPort standard that could handle 5k and other peripherals over Thunderbolt. Now that they have more than one high end display option and Thunderbolt and DisplayPort can handle up to 6k displays, the high end all in one doesn’t make as much sense to Apple. The biggest downside is the price of a separate display is higher, but that’s more the fault of the overpriced Apple displays and the lack of competitively priced alternatives at the same resolutions.

Gurman: October Apple Event Unlikely, Upcoming iPad Air Refresh Could Arrive via Press Release Instead

Apple may not have enough new products and features to launch to justify holding an event in October, leading it to unveil devices like the next-generation iPad Air via press release, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
Is this the same Mark Gurman who said there would be a fall/October event? 🤣

Writing in his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said sources tell him an October event will follow Apple's iPhone 15 series announcement in September, and the state of Apple's current product lineup suggests it will focus on new Macs with M3 chips.

"STAY TONED TO AS THE APPLE TURNS"
Oh, an Apple Watch activity challenge. So if we exercise and stay 💪 toned 💪 and move the rings for seven days in a row, at some point we'll earn a special award in the Fitness app and custom animated stickers? Nice.

The only reason for an October event would be to talk about M3. Design for that chip is long done, and it is in some production ramp mode, but they’re not going to upgrade the MBA and it’s not going to debut in the iMac…

You’re starting to catch on … there’s a wall and he keeps throwing things at it and sees what sticks … he’s a great storyteller though for those who like these kind of stories…

He's not a great storyteller though, he's not even a good guesser - he's wrong about everything that isn't obvious commonsense and yet the owner of this site thinks he's an Apple jesus.

I like how quickly he backpedaled after Kuo said there would be no M3 MacBooks this year.

He changes his stance all the time. First it is one thing, next it is something else. He is prolific but not consistent. As a result it is inevitable he gets stuff right. But you can often find his previous post on the same exact topic that state something totally different. Many people just remember the correct guesses, never all of the wrong predictions . People like reading his rumors since he is always sending out new ones

The guy has zero connections and zero creditbility but somehow has blagged his way to a job at Bloomberg so this website is absolutely obsessed with him.

If you check all my posts i've got a better track record that him just through runnig a business selling Macs and understanding how business works and what makes sense next. He doesn't seem to have a basic understanding of business so most of his guesses aren't even based on logic or the way Apple would space things out. He was adamant all last year we'd get M2 in 2022 - I made at least 4 posts saying they won't come before 2023. I don't have ANY insider information, it just made business and logical sense. Apple really aren't that hard to predict these days.

I knew with the launch of M2 in 15” Air that we were a while away from the M3, I suspect…
