Nah, I think you overestimate people. Most do have no idea what processor is in their phones.
Most have no idea, but the same tech bloggers and YouTubers will make such a big stink about it that even the lay person would question why their latest iphone has the same number A15 as last year's. And since Apple is such a marketing focused company, it will be a nightmare to make up excuses or cover it up.

And thanks to Apple themselves, I now have met lay people who wanted that "M1" ipads. They might not know what an SoC is, but they do know they want an M1, and I bet people want an A16 instead of A15, because 16 is higher than 15.

Pace of innovation has slowed down to a crawl. A trickle.
I think the related issue is what additional productivity can a "phone" provide. The phone is basically a computer and the computer things continue to improve. Finding the next thing, beyond games, notes, calendar, phone, media, et. al, is the challenge.

Still not believing that Apple would stick with the A15 with the regular 14. It will be a marketing disaster waiting to happen.
You mean like how the Apple Watch 7 uses the same CPU as 6?

It’s pretty much perfect as it is. Now if only we could get back to iPhone 11 prices, which is never going to happen, as with many products in life. iPhone 11 sold for $100 less than 13 on launch.
I’d welcome USB-C with open arms (and USB-C hub).
Pro starting at 256GB to support ProRes at 4K would be the cherry on top.
A sleek green colour would be crème de la crème.

Pace of innovation has slowed down to a crawl.
So then make suggestions how Apple should continue to innovate then. ‘Innovation’ is a maturity process, not something that needs to ‘wow’ somebody every single year. It’s been that way in smartphone industry for years now.

Not to mention, Apple typically has been relatively very conservative with offering new features on a year-to-year basis. They purposely ration features, because that’s been their trajectory the iPhone. Does that stifle the iPhone any less from being dominant? Obviously not.

Most people don't watch tech bloggers.
Also while the iPhone 14 may get a "A15" processor, I wouldn't be surprised to see it get the higher GPU version with 6GB (vs 4GB it has now) that the 13 Pro has now.

Don’t get how this guy is an “expert” when he just parrots common sense.

You mean to tell me Apple is going to have yet another “pro” model? Who da thunk!!!!

Or like the previous article. You mean to tell me Apple is working on the next version of their product/iMac? Genius!!!!!

Of course they will not keep the 13. They will discontinue the 13 like the 12.
They only discontinued the 12 Pro. The regular 12 still remains in the lineup:

Can’t believe it’s been seven months already. It’s turned to dust, forgotten in time. There’s only a fragments of evidence it ever existed, even the memories are fading. So very sad.
/s for the serious apples

This is unbelievable. Apple can't innovate their way out of an Ass (A donkey)! If Steve was around, none of this would be happening! I guarantee it. Same old chip? Meh. In this day and age, 64 bit, 15 billion transistors, and 15.8 trillion operations a second isn't keeping up with my high level Sugar Smash game!

For shame, Apple. For shame.

/this is sarcasm.....

So the iPhone SE gets the latest chip but the 14 that costs quite a bit more will get a one year old one? Interesting.

On my part I welcome the satellite connectivity - it's a safety thing. I spend a lot of time in the Scottish Highlands, and although mobile phone coverage is getting better all the time, there are places without coverage. Even in the national forest by where I live, which is a rural area but not wild, there are places with no coverage. A dedicated personal satellite messenger is about £250 (plus additional activation and subscription fees) so if Apple can add this without a massive cost, it makes the iPhone more versatile.

I am still holding off buying Apple products until Apple officially kill off the hare-brained iPhone CSAM-scanning scheme, but an iPhone that could connect to a satellite in an emergency would tempt me.

I can’t help thinking that 48Mpx is overkill for a smartphone. I have a similar resolution on my professional DSLR, and you need to be very careful with that to make effective use of all those pixels.

Very valid point.

Apple should be careful not to repeat the same mistake Google made with the Pixel 6 line-up. They upped the megapixel count without reducing the amount of post-processing that was happening and the results are unusually artificial at times.

Apple's post-processing is already on the edge of overkill and if they don't bring it down while simultaneously adding megapixels, the results could be pretty rough.

Most reviewers will probably self-censor such comments if they want to continue receiving Apple goodies to review in a timely manner. Apple’s script will be it continues to match or beat the latest Snapdragon chip and now the iPhone 14 comes with 6GB memory.

From a practical standpoint, the smartphone replacement cycle is 3-4 years for the average consumer. Whether iPhone 14 has the same A15 chip as last year won’t make a big difference because most buyers are coming from iPhone XR or 11. Yes, consumers always want the latest chip and will be driven towards the iPhone 14 Pro.

All I want in the next phone is NO camera bump, edge to edge screen, and a "mini" form factor. That being said, I don't believe the iPhone picture being used for this article one little bit.

I can’t help thinking that 48Mpx is overkill for a smartphone.
What an absurd statement. You might as well have said "I think 48 Mp is overkill for a camera" because the smartphone that people carry is the only one they have, or use. Including people who value high quality photography.

12 MP is simply way too noisy. The pixel binning 48 MP method will fix that.

How much space in the chassis will satellite connectivity take up? If it was a zero-cost feature both in terms of not adding anything to the end-user price of the phone and also in terms of not taking up any extras space in the chassis because somehow the functionality could be added to existing chips without increasing package size and an existing antenna could handle the satellite comms as well as what it was already doing then great and I would be all for it but, given that I would be very surprised if that later point was the case (and knowing Apple I’m sceptical that the first point would be the case either), this makes me very nervous. I’m worried that the extra internal space needed for the satellite hardware will be at the expense of battery space because Apple doesn’t want to increase the overall size of the phone (understandably for the Pro Max) so, after a great run of Apple actually increasing battery life year on year we might go back to the bad old days when in some years battery life on a new model was actually worse than that of the year before because battery capacity gets smaller and year-on-year improvements in electronics efficiencies don’t quite make up for the smaller batteries.

of course...some features and hardware must be missing from the normal ones compared to the Pro models...since they will be the same size but in different price points
I think this actually might hurt sales of the regular models a huge large screen regular model I think that’s only been done once before with Xr but I’m not sure that not having the same little processor is going to be a selling idea for significantly reduce prices.

So many people complain about the mini iPhones being too costly drop in the performance not a good sell.

pay more for less....the apple way.
I didn’t get that with my mini only the cameras which makes sense because it’s not a pro model.

Fun experience last night found an iPhone 13 Pro In the driveway of my building parking lot it’s scuffed up beautiful device significantly larger than a mini but the weight was so noticeable wow glad I didn’t get that device yes I returned it to the rightful owner
