Early work on Apple's second-generation Vision Pro headset focuses on reducing the device's size and weight, as well as an improved experience for users who need prescription lenses, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In the latest edition of his "Power On" newsletter, Gurman explained that Apple's Vision Products Group has moved onto next-generation headset models and is considering several options, including lower-end and more powerful versions. The work, which remains early, seeks to make the device lighter and slightly smaller to address complaints that the first-generation Vision Pro feels too heavy on the head.

Apple is also apparently exploring how to make a headset purchase simpler for those who wear glasses. The first-generation Vision Pro requires wearers of glasses to separately purchase Zeiss prescription lenses that snap on to the displays using magnets. The company reportedly made this decision to reduce the overall thickness of the headset, but the need to stock thousands of different lens combinations is reportedly proving difficult.

With the second-generation, Apple is considering shipping custom-built Vision Pro headsets with preinstalled prescription lenses directly from the factory. Gurman notes that this invokes a different set of problems with sharing a headset, reselling it, and when a user's optical prescription changes over time.

According to other reports, the second-generation Vision Pro headset is not expected to launch until around 2025 to 2027. The first-generation launches early next year.

Seriously? We haven't even seen the first generation of Vision Pro on the market yet ...... Is this news too "early"?

However, it's great that Apple is immediately focusing on improving the lightweight of the Apple Vision!

How can the next version be announced in 2025 when the first version will be released in Europe at end of 2024/ early 2025?

But not price?
I'm also confused. does Apple seem to intend to keep releasing Pro models at the start, rather than standard or even SE versions? There doesn't seem to be any rumors of a cheaper version at the moment?

Rumors come out when they are gathered. This information can be useful to people who are on the fence about buying the first one, or anybody who is curious about the direction Apple is taking this device in.

In my opinion, Apple will launch a cheaper Vision Pro ONLY if the overall quality of the device remains the same. Glad they're working on a more expensive. This will make it easier to lower production costs.

Smart to start talking second gen already to pave the ground for the failure of first gen. “Yes, but next gen is already in the works and they will be so much greater, just wait and see - they will be awesome!”

I think the real move here is in the future there won't need to be desktops or laptops. Just put on your glasses. This is first step of a new technology. 10yrs from now this might look like a pair of Ray Bans.
Yeah, if they can get this down to Google Glass specs, then they will have something. I don't care what anyone said, because most people never owned them, Google Glass was the most amazing tech I've ever owned (and I buy almost every new tech gadget I can find) and it never made it out of beta really. I loved having a HUD all the time and it was comfortable to wear all day and night. It had its limitations of course but it was way ahead of its time. I have zero interest in AVP in its current form and again, I buy and try almost every tech gadget I can get my hands on.

Apple will launch gen1 in the US to gather user feedback, find product marketing fit. Based on that they will decide whether to launch gen 1 world world or gen 2.

Can’t tell you how many people declared Apple Watch a dud, even years after it was originally released, before it became the most popular watch in the world.
Except the average Apple Watch doesn’t cost $3500, doesn’t need an external battery pack, and doesn’t require prescription lense inserts for those who wear glasses. This is a dud.
