Maybe you are talking about "disk utility" instead of "disk mode". On a mac, and I haven't used on in a while, is an app called "Disk Utility", basically "Disk Management" in XP. It allows you to view the hard disks and partitions in and on the computer. Plug the ipod in, find the Disk Utility app. You should see the ipod in there, as a disk. Right click on it, or from the menus, or somewhere, you *might* be able to format the ipod. You, having a windows computer, will want to format it as fat32, and not the Apple format.

If that works, you should be able to put the the touch in recovery mode and push a new firmware, ziphone, etc...from XP.

VERY IMPORTANT: if this fubar's your ipod touch, it's not my responsibility, i'm not liable for it :D
Cool im gonna try it anyway because i cant find any other solution. Would the disk utility let me kinda browse th ipod then? I heard that there is a file somewhere in the ipod that contains the passcode file and its just a case of deleting that. Whether its true or not i dunno!

Well im getting some progress!, called apple and theyve now officially registered it in my name (even though I bought it preowned which was suprising!) and booked me an appointment at my nearest apple store (60 miles away!) tomorrow. Apparently if they cant fix it they'll help me get a replacement ipod touch as its still under warranty ooh-wee!

the Apple tech guys will do differently to the things ive tried? do they have theyre own secret ways?

I drove 60 miles to my nearest apple store and even the geiuses couldnt get it working, theyve put it down to a software issue and are gonna replace it.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A93 Safari/419.3)

or you could have put it into recovery mode, and saved 120 miles of driving...

Maybe next time you shouldn't steal it...

you just realized he stole it now? The minute people accused him of stealing he says he will call apple. Plus im sure apple has a sulution for this. I hope you never unlock it.

Edit: woops didn't" notice how old this was.

The Ipod got replaced straight away after I got the guy in the shop I bought it from to call for me and verify that I LEGALLY purchased it. The problem is solved now but any future problems I have, I will avoid this site for help as it seems you all just assume the worst and just use your posts for little 'gossips like a bunch of old ladies.

Hello guys, ive recently bought a used 16gb touch (preowned) and found its disabled! ("ipod disabled, connect to itunes message on screen).

Ive downloaded the latest itunes but it tells me to put in the passcode when opened (which I obviously dont know coz ive been screwed over).

Ive been searching for 2 whole days and tried all manual recovery methods I can find but to no avail.
Basically the "holding the power & home, letting go of power when apple logo shows method" & the "hold home while you plug the ipod in" method hasnt done anything for me, it still boots up normally and goes to the "ipod disabled connect to itunes screen".

In another forum someone told me to try ziphone but this didnt do anything because the phone isnt paired with itunes and obviously this isnt the computer its been originally synced to.

I just cant seem to be able to restore it manually at all, I dont care about losing anything on it, I just want the thing unlocked so I havnt spent a lot of money on a door stop!

Can someone PLEEAAASE help me out as I havnt slept for nearly 3 days from trying to sort it and im close to a breakdown lol!

PS great site!
Nick

There's no such thing as an 'iTouch'.
:(:p

Nick, Sorry to hear that the reset did not work for you; however, I had the same problem as you and I followed GuyWoodman07's directions and the reset worked perfectly.

(as a side note, it did not work with the Itouch hooked to Itunes on a PC - I got a software error report - however it worked very well when it was hooked up the Itunes from a Mac; I'm not sure if this is significant.

Anyways, thank you Guy and good luck to others with the same issue.
