More fodder for the Apple haters. :D. Glad Apple keeps them annoyed .............. they wouldn't know what to do with themselves otherwise. They're a useless lot actually, other than the amusement factor.

cheers

I honestly don't think that the addition of a crappy webcam and a gyro to the iPad 2 will make it a compelling upgrade at all. In fact if the only things that get added are the three you suggest there, I won't bother upgrading at all.

The iPad is fine the way it is for now.

Compelling for an upgrade no, but you must admit next year you will probably have that upgrade feeling when a new one with these features is released.

I understand that the share price must go up every year, but it always seems to be at the expense of Apple's most devoted customers.

Be it reception issues, 2g iphones, busted software updates, yellow screens on iphones, mbp's and imacs or failing time capsules, the list goes on and on.

Those who adopt Apple's new or redesigned products first get burned every time.

I think i could have told you that. This is front page news today.

This site should be hammering Apple on the front page every day on the reception deception!

>: l

God Damnit Apple, You Keep Putting In All These Cool Features In Prototypes So You Can Abandon Them Out Of Greed Later. It Pisses Me Off.

Pretty good move by Apple. Tease the masses with half-ass filled products like the 1st Generation iPad. Then, release something stuffed to the holes with new tech such as the iPhone 4.

Then release the iPad again with stuff it should have had considering what it was aimed to do: 512MB RAM, a front facing camera, and a gyroscope since they're aiming for gaming platforms, then make everyone buy it again.

Pretty much the same scheme they did with the iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G.

Bravo Apple, bravo.

And because we know Apple works this way I skipped the first iPad and will buy the second instead ;)

I have a question: would the current apps out there using accelerometer will be negatively affected if gyrometer is used in iPod or iPhone or iPad? In other words, will they still work the same with new version of gyrometer?

I'm pissed that the iPhone 4 makes the iPad look old. I'll be even more pissed when the next iPad makes the iPhone 4 look old. I'll be really, REALLY pissed when the iPhone 5 makes the next iPad look old. I'm going to be pissing a whooooooole lot.

in that case, you'll fit right in here at MRs

so what's the problem. you obviously have a handle on their method, so stop getting caught up in all the hype and stop buying an iPad or iPhone when the 1st generation comes out, and instead wait until it has everything you can't possible live without before you buy it.

god people, no one forces you to buy this stuff. be an educated consumer and buy when you know what you're buying is in fact what you want and will be happy with

-I have an iPod touch as of Yesterday

I love the iPhone 4 but I've got bad signal issues.
:(

ummm, this has what to do with this post?!?! please lord, don't hijack this thread with more iPhone 4 reception complaints. take it somewhere else

256mb Ram, No Cameras, no Gyro..

Planned obsolescence much?

An example of somewhat erroneous thinking since whatever is added to the next generation iPad doesn't have any impact on the original iPad at all. It will still be able to do everything it could before, so assuming the owner bought it knowing what it was capable of, the inevitable next iteration of the product doesn't affect it in the slightest.

One would assume from these kind of comments that manufacturers have never before continuously developed new generations of products to entice buyers to spend money.

It's Very Simple

Put a new feature in a flag ship product... make space in other products for these components for next cycle... by the time other product cycles arrive there are many benefits... the component is cheaper...and the component has been tested and accepted...

There's a lot about this attitude I don't understand.

Compelling for an upgrade no, but you must admit next year you will probably have that upgrade feeling when a new one with these features is released.

I may very well. Then I can sell mine for probably 60-80% of what I paid for it (just like every other piece of Apple hardware retains its value) and buy the new one. $100-200 to play with the new iPad for a year isn't so bad. If that's what I decide to do. Right now it does everything I want it to, very very well.

I understand that the share price must go up every year, but it always seems to be at the expense of Apple's most devoted customers.

I'm pretty sure every company makes the most money off the people that buy the most of their stuff? Apple makes good stuff.

Be it reception issues, 2g iphones, busted software updates, yellow screens on iphones, mbp's and imacs or failing time capsules, the list goes on and on.

I've had absolutely no problems with my first gen iPad. Last I heard, people were complaining about a 4th gen iPhone. Where is this early-adopter penalty everyone talks about?

Those who adopt Apple's new or redesigned products first get burned every time.

It seems to me that the people who "get burned" most would be the people who buy something a week before the product is updated, not the people who buy first and absolutely love using the product for a year.

Besides, for those wondering about why the gyro was left out of the iPad, there's a number of possible reasons. 1) It may simply not have been ready in volume in time. These are not the same gyros Nintendo's using in their MotionPlus. These are 3-axis and smaller. They're new. 2) This newness means they're probably not cheap. Apple gets $600-800 for their iPhones. And that's with a smaller screen and less powerful processor. That gives you the wiggle room to pack in some cutting edge features.

And please, to those complaining that the iPad doesn't look like the new iPhone...it doesn't look like the old iPhone, either! It's supposed to look more like Apple's newest computers, and it does.

(from the page 1)

"The iPod Touch is the other likely device to get a gyroscope in the near future. The iPod Touch is expected to be revised in September. While there have been no rumors about the content of the update, the iPod Touch is likely to receive many of the improvements found in the iPhone 4."

This is the reason I didn't buy an iPad in the first place. Sure it's fantastic, but since the announcement, I wouldn't buy one till it has a front facing camera. The gyroscope is a nice addition as well, very fun to program for on my iPhone 4. Just opens more possibilities on an iPad as well. And 512 RAM will be a nice addition.

However, I can hardly see a 326PPI display on the iPad - very very costly at that size for sure. But, hey, Apple, impress me. I'll believe when I see it. And I'll immediately buy it.

I think the iPad is rally cool. But when iOS 4 comes out in the fall for the iPad, it will be what it should have been (almost). Then the next year, when iPad gen 2 comes out, I think it will have a front facing camera and FaceTime. Yes, so many people say it would look stupid trying to fill up the entire screen, but it wouldn't have to. Photo Booth on a mac doesn't take up the entire screen. So neither does FaceTime. So, I think next years model will have better battery life, front facing camera, gyroscope, More RAM (512MB) and maybe 32GB being the base model.

I think what Apple should have done, is just only have a WiFi+3G model, and discontinue the WiFi only version. Make the WiFI+3G models the same price as the WiFi only models, and keep the storage the same. the cellular radio board is only like a $30 part, but Apple wants $130.

While I love the iPad (using it to read and reply here), apple clearly left out a few things that they could easily have included. I suspect that they felt it was just so far ahead of the competition even without the extras that it would still be a success. Having said that, there will be major competition from Google/other android manufacturers soon and having replaced an iPhone 3G for a nexus one I'm personally looking forward more to what android will do in tablet form than Apple. The ipad has a fantastically slick interface but so constraining. These are great times to be a geek! Bring it all on:D

it will work the same

...why you remain a member of a mac enthusiast site and piss and moan about what you *think* Apple's modis operandi is, then have a signature proclaiming all the Apple stuff you've bought (like we really care what you own anyways)?

I just dont get it...it's like marrying a woman and then going through the rest of your life and marriage complaining about her...it's really rather pathetic.

I would like to see 9 degrees of freedom. After translation and rotation, we will be able to measure size changes! Imagine, we could simply stretch our iPod Touches... oh wait...

SCNR :)

I expected there to be improvement to the iPad next year but I have to say it does piss me off when we find out that both the 512m A4 and the gyroscope could have been put in the ipad but weren't just to lower the production cost for Apple. I know how they play this game so it does not surprise me.
There was a lot of pent up demand for the iPad but I'm content to hold on now and even skip the next Gen2 and go for the Gen3 as long as I have a usable device. I could also enjoy my iPad until fall and then get the new iPod Touch with all the goodies we have reason to expect, sell my iPad when demand is still high and get a good price then wait and just use the Touch then pick up a Gen 2 iPad in the spring. Both plans are a way for one to manage the costs.

The lack of front facing camera is one of the main reasons i didn't buy this iPad. GPS is second. I want to be able to mount my iPad in the car and use it as a giant navi.

I'm doing that on a current iPad 3G...and not complaining one bit.

And as usual on here now, the anti-Apple bitching brigade are out in force.

If you don't like Apple, their products, their Market strategy and tactics, their CEO or anything else, why else are you here?

MacRumors seems to have more bitching about Apple than discussions these days, with the anti-Apple brigade believing them and only them are "clued up".

Tiresome stuff nowadays.

We MOST certainly HAVE NOT found out that they "could have put" these components in the iPad...all we've "found out" is that they're in the iPhone 4...

OMG...some of you people are just clueless
