CDC: swine flu strain has genetic roots in U.S.A

Please, read that first comment in that story because it points out some flaws in the article and the headline.

You'll notice that the virologist, Ruben Donis, doesn't draw conclusions or make any inferences. That's because he knows better because he's a scientist. On the other hand, the author of the article definitely wants you to draw certain conclusions and to think a certain way.

What everyone who is hungry for swine flu information should keep in mind when reading is who is stating the facts and who is making the conclusions. Many times, they are not the same people.

I like bacon. That's my opinion on pork. Reading this article, I get the definite sense that the people involved with this website/article have an anti-pork farming agenda.

Tamiflu or Relenza will be administered for every flu case between now and November, regardless of genotyping.

Not only will H1N1 return in the fall, but it will be resistant to each.

I entirely agree. The panic-induced over-medication will only make it resistant as with most "super bugs".

Welcome to the world of public health, where the first reaction of the public to a bug crawling on its shoe is to shoot the foot. Preferably with a cannon.

Naw, a cannon isn't powerful enough. The public wants nuclear power.

...which has already killed 160 people in Mexico alone. But ya know- no big deal or anything.
yeah, no big deal. The regular flu kills exponentially more. As I said, it's just the flu.

The only people I see getting worked up over this are those with no idea on how a influenza works, or they watch the news channels that blow everything out of proportion.

This is possibly the dumbest thread I've read in weeks. This is just the flu.

Right.

All those scientists are just making a big deal out of nothing. The WHO is just jerking our chain for the fun of it...it's been a boring few weeks in science.

Yeah. That's why my biotechnology company is quarantining everyone who has just traveled to Mexico. Obviously we have no idea how influenza works, being a biotech company and all.

Why isn't the media reporting on drunk driving related deaths? This killed more people than the current flu outbreak in the same time period.

Meh, the media ARE blowing this out of proportion.

First reported case in CT is in Stratford.

The first case of H1N1 found in Connecticut was announced by the governor on Friday.

Gov. Jodi Rell announced Friday afternoon that a Stratford resident had the state's first confirmed case.

Stratford officials said that the affected resident is a married adult without children in the town's school system. They said the person's spouse hadn't shown any symptoms of H1N1.
Rell also said Friday that a second suspected case, an adult in Southbury, has tested inconclusive for H1N1 and more tests will be conducted.

In addition to the Stratford case, there are six probable cases of H1N1 influenza A, including a Middlefield child, two Fairfield University students and residents in Glastonbury and Fairfield.

the difference may be in ratios here, mortility vs exposure.

this thing is only just beginning, so we'll just have to wait and see,

agreed!

I find it very comical that people here are calling me ignorant. You guys will freak out over anything. So what if schools are closed because of it? Schools in the northwest close all the time because of an inch of snow, does that mean we get to call an inch of light snow a blizzard?
