Half Life 2

I've gotten this for Steam, but the textures are awful and basically make it impossible to play. I know that it's the 32 bit issue--playing it in Crossover with Big Sur 11.1.1, and DXVX enabled, but it's not making any difference. Is there anything else I can do?

Sorry to hear that. I would have guessed that an older game such as that would be ok.
Is Bootcamp an option? I have no idea if it would be good enough, but maybe.

32-bit games won't run in Catalina or Big Sur. The only options is Crossover, Parallels or Playonmac.

It is ironical that you can run 32-bit Windows or Linux games on recent macOS versions, while no one has yet come up with a solution to run 32-bit Mac games.

Wasn't that Rosetta or am I confused? I thought they were working on a Rosetta 2?

Rosetta makes X86-64 apps run on Apple-silicon Macs.
There is currently no solution to run 32-bit Mac games on macOS 10.15+.
