I generally shy away from subscription models as well, but admit I had not appreciated what Cocoi says about the effort of keeping up with the movement in the underlying API structures, let alone new features. I am one of those who bought Halide a while ago that they have supported so well.

Picking up on the question posted by Egregius (and others), wondering if Halide supports a Fjorden grip, or if it will ever support that. I am looking for a grip and that one looks interesting. They have their own app, but I would like to stick with Halide.

Wondering if I can twist Cocoi to comment?
Happy to comment! We do not — we haven't been given the hardware and we are just a small team, so to go out of our way and spend resources there instead of making new features / better apps is not a likely tradeoff we'd make. :)

I would think that if you reach out to them they would love to send you a free Fjorden grip. After all, the more camera apps support it the more they can sell.

Thanks Cocoi. Have to say I appreciate your focus, and I think (even as someone who would like a tighter integration between the 'app and the grip') you are taking the right decision. I have ordered the grip, since my primary interest in it is as a 'better' way (for me - YMMV) to hold the phone when taking photos, and fulfils that requirement.

Totally possible! But I'd only feel comfortable doing that if we are ready to commit the resources to supporting it. Right now, we're working hard on a Mark 3 update that's for all our current members, and I think we'll do everyone a pleasure by getting that out. :)

Thanks for understanding, JonS. That means a lot to me!

You can look at this from several angles. If you really like and value an app, weather subbed or not, the nightmare you want to avoid is the app just shuts down or cédasse to exists, because the devs simply cannot make it work financialy. They have to be paid. OTOH….I recently took an inventory of my subs - it was an eye opener. Right there in excel. The pitch of “for the cup of coffee”….. (per day, per month whatever) becomes a full blown Nespresso café fiesta (they also have a sub, how fitting). At some point, you cannot have subs for everything, and we’re back to choices. I whacked three of my subs after doing the inspection. Don’t miss any of them.I realized they were just cycling and I wasn’t paying attention. A matter of priorities and choices we make …
