Isnt H264 better quality though? can anyone say if the difference is noticable even if the bit rate is the same?

The only noticeable difference I found was the lenght of time it takes to decode. Mp4 took me like 45 minute and h264 over 2 hours. I didn't notice any difference in quality so I'm sticking with regular mp4 format.

I found it more efficient to use Handbrake on hard drive based DVDs. Using Mac the Ripper to copy to DVD to the hard drive in about 30 minutes. Then let Handbrake run for hours against 2 or 3 DVD folders on the hard drive. I think this is less wear and tear on the DVD drive. You can run it at night and wake up the next day with them ready for you to put on your iPhone.

Casino Royale and 28 Days Later are the only DVDs Handbrake has had problems with for me. So I just copied the Video TS files from the disks with MacTheRipper, then fed those to Handbrake instead and all was well.

My iBook G4 can take up to an hour and a half. I can't rip 3, The Blues Brothers, or Smokey and the Bandit - three of my favorite movies. I can rip most everything else I've tried. Annoying, because those are the ones I want! Oh well.

An update came along that allowed me to rip one that I couldn't previously. Maybe that'll happen again.

its weird how some have troubles with titles that others have no problems with and vice versa. i had no problems with 28 days or national treasure 2, just those darn bonds!! galaxy quest used to give me headaches then all of a sudden i tried on the mac and no issues...

no matter what OS ive used it takes me about 1hr to an hour and a half with the :apple:tv setting

I've found MacTheRipper to successfully decode DVD's that HB wouldn't so I always run it through that first.

Also, the reason to use H.264 over MP4 is that some mobile devices/laptops have chips that decode H.264 causing greater batter life.

Once you HB movies, what do you usually do to burn it to a blank DVD? Any programs that run especially fast?
:apple:

I'm HB'ing Sicko. Hopefully all goes smooth and I will post the time it took tomorrow morning.

Am I correct in assuming that HB looses all the bonus tracks, but only decodes the main video?

I've had some problems with specific DVDs, but most encode/rip just fine in HB.

My MacBook encodes at 18-22 FPS. (PAL, iPod Hi-Rez preset)

I had problems with the new Clone Wars movie. HB wouldnt work on it.
