Handoff/Continuity Working on Any Non BT-4.0 Macs?

I am on a late 2011 MBP. I am able to send and receive text messages in Yosemite. I just tried to receive a call on my Mac but nothing happened. Is that due to not having a supported Bluetooth card or a setting I forget to make?

I get the following error: your iphone is not configured to allow calls using your mac displayed on the banner.

I'm on MacbookPro Late 2011 too, but i can't messaging nor calls. There is not enabled this functions.

p.s. I'm on Public Beta 3

p.p.s. How do you send messages?

SMS relay has since been turned off on all beta releases right now. You can send and receive calls on Yosemite and iOS 8 devices by making sure that FaceTime is set to initiate calls with your phone number (located under preferences). Also, make sure your phone settings are turned on for FaceTime.

Ok i understood about Messages but with calls that's something not right too..

Maybe another member has the answer or an idea as to what might be wrong, with Yosemite seeing both devices on different networks. I remember reading a few posts about that same problem, but don't remember where. Try a forum search. Sorry i can't be of more help.
 
Early 2011 MacBook Pro, Yosemite beta3 and Iphone5 iOS8, call working!

After upgrading my MacbookPro Early 2011 to Yosemite beta3 I was surprised when a call from my iOS8 iPhone5 came through... Maybe this BT4 is just a rumor? Beta2 didn't work. Don't know what I did but now it works...

It works just fine on my Mac Pro 2012 5,1.

I did purchase a WiFi/BT upgrade kit from MacVidCards, and all features are supported. Anyone with ANY Mac Pro can enjoy the new features that Yosemite offers.

I'm sorry if someone else has already pointed this out, I didn't read every post in the thread.

The handoff feature from your iPhone 5 to your MBP is what you won't be able to do. You don't have the right BTLE card and neither do I, as I have the late 2011 MBP.

Same here! But MacBook late 2009 with 0x4 so no suprise that handoff doesn't work. But AirDrop won't work either, and I'd like to see a nice and solid NO. (Now I'm still hoping :rolleyes: )

But I'm reading something about dongles in here? So in theory I could put a proper dongle in my macbook and AirDrop would work?
 
Works on early-2011 13" MBP

Just confirmed that Continuity handoff (phone call) works between my iPhone 5s running iOS 8 and MBP 13" early-2011 (MacBookPro8,1) running Yosemite Public Beta-3.

Surprised the hell out of me.

What you're describing is a Continuity feature, but it isn't Handoff. Handoff refers to starting something on one device (such as an email, or a Numbers document) and being able to pick up perfectly from another.

To test it, try this: start writing an email on your Mac. Now turn on your iPhone's screen. If Handoff is working, you should see a little icon at the lower left-hand corner of the lock screen that isn't normally there. Unlocking the phone should bring up your unsent email as it was on the Mac, at the typing screen.
 
I have a mid-2011 13-inch Macbook Air, according to the all the information I have seen I should be able to use handoff/continuity on my computer. When I look at the bluetooth information, I see the LMP version is 0x6. If the information I have read is correct, then why am I seeing that I cannot use handout? I tried to see if airdrop would work between my phone and computer, but it would not; so I am very confused. Any help would be appreciated. I am on beta 4.

P.S. I have turned bluetooth on for both devices, I get the options to pair, the code pops up; after that it will not connect.

P.S.S I know continuity has been removed from beta 3/4, could that be the reason airdrop is not working? I realize that's probably the reason why I cannot get SMS through my Mac, and there is no option to turn on handoff in the settings. But still, does someone know why I would have a "no" next to handoff support in my bluetooth information?

Do you have iOS 8.1 installed? You need that if you are going to do SMS relay, at least with the cGM build. From your specs, you should be able to do AirDrop and phone calls. That isn't limited to iOS 8.1. I can't explain why that aspect isn't working for you and others with the MBA 2011.

Oh, is that what SMS relay needs? I did not know that. I do not have 8.1 installed, and am using the public beta of Yosemite. So, maybe that's the issue.

As for AirDrop, I guess all I can do is submit a bug report and hope that it is fixed in the next update/final release whatever comes first.

You will have to ask another PB 4 user, if SMS is working for them with iOS 8.1. It definitely is with the cGM 1.0 release to developers.
 
As per BasicGreatGuy's suggestion, I would like to ask all users of public beta 4 who have either iOS 8.1 or 8.0.2 (which is what I have) installed on this forum, are you able to use SMS relay on your Macs?

I have same model, and running final version Yosemite, and nothing changes

I can´t use airdrop or handsoff
I can´t understand, because the LMP version is 0x6, and I think that´s the correct version for run the 2 options of yosemite

Based on information Apple released today, the minimum Mac requirement for handoff and airdrop to work is now, for most machines, 2012. I don't know why, since, mid-2011s have the correct bluetooth version.

Gee...

there's just two things that are real show stoppers on this iMac (mid-11).

BT LE and USB 3.0 missing.

Both have been available at that time.
BT LE in Macs, USB 3.0 given its advantages was workable as well, Intel supporting it in their CPUs directly or not.

Other than that this iMac really has aged quite well and is still up to snuff.
This artificial limitation with which BT LE-equipped Mac does or does not support Handoff really doesn't make Apple seem very consumer-friendly.

Is there a way to upgrade a 2011 17 inch MBP to BT LE /4.0 or whatever spec is needed for Handoff and instant hotspot? I remember with my last windows laptop i was able to just get a newer mini BT card for it and a new driver when i wanted to upgrade. Is a similar process available for my MBP or is this not an option?

I haven't heard of anyone trying with a 17" system but I don't believe it should be any different. See this page for more information about what wireless card to buy and the software modifications that will be necessary.
