On a per core basis are these faster? Also does rosetta handle multi-core or is each app on one core?
In a word, yes. The 13" MBPs for a while now have been thickest in the middle (this feels familiar, ha), so it's not as easy to see their maximum dimensions visually when looking at the side of the machine.Awesome, thank you. It looks quite a bit thicker, but the specs sheet has it as only a few mm difference. Is that because of the tapered design of the 13"?
And OMFG once again, it's trivial to make the notch TOTALLY DISAPPEAR by either choosing a desktop image that forces a black menu bar, or using one of the utility apps that are available which force a black menu bar no matter your desktop image. The notch is gone, and oh look, now I have more screen real estate, because my Menu Bar was always at the top of the screen anyway...The notch provides space for the upgraded 1080p camera, and the ambient light/true tone sensors. Therefore a functional purpose.
The proper way on these new M1 is to press and hold the power button and release it after a moment during boot.DO NOT UPDATE YOUR NEW MACBOOK PRO!!!!
I just received my new 16” m1 Max (with Monterey preinstalled) and it completely bricked my new macbook. ??♂️
All i get it a never ending loop of it trying to load.
Update: keyboard commands don’t work such as command + R and even connected a second macbook with recovery software. Still unresponsive. Even apple support is lost.

I was just waiting for an upgrade and this ruined it for me. Also, I love tech and this thing honestly looks laughable and hideous to me. I also find it as a step back for the laptop industry -- this, instead of putting cams under the screen and taking advantage of every inch.1) Why triple posting, there is an edit function
2) Why go overboard, it's a mere software bug which will be fixed
Those Pro Macbooks are not made for you. Rather than ranting about the notch in every thread, simply get a different device. ?♂️
Would be nice if these notches didn't exist, but I figure as obsessed as Apple is with every detail, they carefully weighed the pros and cons and went with the present solution(s), at least for now, as the best—perhaps only solution. Or maybe I'm giving them too much credit?I actually don't mind the notch on the MacBook Pro since its a relatively small amount of the overall space and you can still use the menu bar around it. I hate it on the iPhone since it is a significantly larger portion of the screen and now I can't see as much information as I could before. I'd rather they have stuck with a notchless design even if it meant a small "forehead" on the iPhone. But for the MacBook Pro? No problem.
Nope, those things were already housed in the bezel. The notch provides space for the upgraded 1080p camera, and the ambient light/true tone sensors. Therefore a functional purpose.

I tried this as well. Apple was also unable to fix it in store. Turns out it’s a defective unit. They made me return the macbook and place a new order. Unfortunately, now i have to wait 5-6 weeks. Very frustrating. The proper way on these new M1 is to press and hold the power button and release it after a moment during boot.
Seems like even Apple employees don't know the proper way to pull recovery on the M1 chips. Not like it means anything but I had to also educate the guys at the apple store when I went to exchange my M1 Pro a couple of weeks ago. ?♂️
The notch is part of the bezel…? congratsNope, those things were already housed in the bezel.
Why does a notch = failure? Please give us a detailed explanation on why you think the notch is a failure.Functionality + Design = Apple Excellence
Notch = Failure in All Three..![]()
Maybe the notch was put there by bezel-bub? I haven't used a desktop background for years. Don't need the distraction. Why does a notch = failure? Please give us a detailed explanation on why you think the notch is a failure.
ugh, sorry to hear that. But I'm assuming it's safe for the rest of us to do the update? I was scared off by your original post.I tried this as well. Apple was also unable to fix it in store. Until they invent a camera that can see through the screen, there either needs to be a notch or a forehead. Seems like the notch is a decent solution since it offers more useable space with minimal functional impact.Would be nice if these notches didn't exist, but I figure as obsessed as Apple is with every detail, they carefully weighed the pros and cons and went with the present solution(s), at least for now, as the best—perhaps only solution. Basically, it's like the 15 without bezels. I'm glad with my order, thanksStopped lurking just to post this. I downsized from 15" and the smaller screen will definitely take some getting used to, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have wanted anything heavier. In fact, the 15" is starting to seem bulky to me.

I have a feeling that's what next year's M2 Air is basically going to be (although probably 13" with small bezels, perhaps). However it is too big for me, if they decide to release a 12" version i couldn't resist buying one to replace my 12" Macbook.
