Perhaps some kind of bar-shaped multifunctional display and input device that you could touch. But what would they call it?

Thank you, great comparison shot, 14 is not going to work, hopefully they will release a 15" Macbook Air next year.
Hmmm. The 14" does seem to be a good deal smaller. What is the actual resolution difference? I think it's 1440x900 (15") vs 1512x982 (14") by default. So you would actually get more content on the 14" than the old 15", albeit rendered smaller.

My MBP16 is 1792x1120 by default, so the 14" would be about 10% smaller in both dimensions - probably quite noticeable, but not a deal-breaker.

yeah sure, cause you turned blind out of the blue. Brainwashing yourselves won't do
Actually, "auto-brainwashing" is what humans are good at. It's pretty easy to filter out external stimuli that we're not interested in. In most cases it will be in your peripheral vision in any case, so will be out of your central focus.

I don't think the notch is going to be a big issue unless you are really going out of your way to intentionally look at it and hate it....

I think the case design is "solid". It's not particularly elegant or attractive, but this is a tool, not a super-model. I don't lovingly gaze at my collection of workshop tools either.

If you really can't get over it, then just don't buy the MBP.

Not sure you tried holding power down to force off, wait 5 seconds, then press and hold the power button until you see "loading startup options...". From there click "Options" and continue to get into the recovery menu.

GL!
Thanks, already tried. It states it’s loading the options me u but then restarts back into its loop

If Apple support is lost, you can return it within the 14 days they offer, or you can try to have it repaired/replaced.
Usually they are not that difficult to deal with.
Not worried about dealing with apple as they are always great. But with with shipments for Macbooks having already slipped into December would just be a pain. Especially as this macbook pays my bills.

Could you test how improved is the M1 Pro in terms of fcpx performance vs M1. Most other sites will do a comparison between Davinci and Premiere only.

The notch does NOT blend in. It stands out in a very strange way, can't keep from looking at it. And the fact you can hide the pointer behind it is very, very strange.
Hiding the menubar in settings also make the space unusable but empty since Monterey does not allow you to put windows in the space between the notch and the edge of the screen, the window "pops" down to below where the menubar would be.

The bigger menubar means that if you click on a menu item, now there is a darker "box" around the text, not the entire menubar like on screens without a notch. Not pretty.

The keyboard LOOKS great, yes, in a well lit room. In a dimly lit, or dark room, it's impossible to even get a faint idea of where the keyboard is, should the backlighting turn off. And, even with the backlighting turned on, you cannot make out where the keys are, you just see the lit up symbols. User Interface FAIL.
What notch? ?

And yes, I’ve blacked out the menu bar too ? (what notch?).

lined up the 14” with the back left corner of my 13” (2016)
Awesome, thank you. It looks quite a bit thicker, but the specs sheet has it as only a few mm difference. Is that because of the tapered design of the 13"?

"Notch = Failure in All Three.."

Seriously, it's getting tiresome. Get an Air then.

notch-o's with cheese still available in the peanut gallery, apparently.

Apple made the right tradeoffs with the notch until such a day when it can become seamless; meanwhile, get creative.

There are ways (and reasons) to get used to the notch. Maybe it pushes you toward trying dark mode to hide the notch. And maybe that's not such a bad change for you. A good exercise in adapting to the environment.

Because, if you think the notch is bad, look at a toilet. Seriously. Most toilets are objectively much uglier than notches, yet scarcely anyone notices. The notch won't negatively impact me one iota. I was using dark mode way before it was a thing. As early as 2005 or so, I had my desktops dark as I could get them, Not because I don't like light, color, beauty, and art; I work early in the mornings and/or at night enough to not enjoy being overwhelmed by the light from the screen in my face when surrounding lights are subdued. I also realized it doesn't waste as much energy both in the equipment nor neural energy of a brain filtering the unneeded light subliminally.

The tendency to resist themes one is not used to is natural, and the need to adapt is ongoing. When I see others using dark mode with syntax coloring schemes that I can't personally relate to, their desktop can look really awkward to me, even though I'm at peace with dark mode itself. So, if you're new to dark mode, do yourself a favor and try to waste a little too much time finding a set of syntax highlighting and theme colors that completely resonate with you, and you might find yourself starting to appreciate dark mode.

Picking themes and syntax highlighting schemes can be a time-consuming, if not aggravating exercise in OCD, to get things 'just right' for your tastes. Like choosing the right paint colors and aesthetics for your home (if that matters to you). But there's a huge comfort and enjoyment payoff for the ordeal. If you live at your screen, it's probably well worth it, since you might not find editor and desktop color schemes that are just right for you.

First full work day. 89% battery start
Just hit 10% after 8 hours of constant use.

14" c:10/16 16gb/1tB- mix of tasks (no rendering).

Keep in mind this will include the usual background indexing / spotlight / data download / photo processing stuff that normally happens when setting up a new Mac.

2015 15" guy here too. Wonder how the 14" compares. I found this comparison with the 16" only.

This Notch 'failure' enables us a 1080p webcam + additional screen space left and right (+74px). Rather than having a useless bezel or nose-cam. Use a black menu bar and it will never bother you again.
Thanks for posting that, I've got a Late 2013 that was maxed out at the time, I've been waiting to upgrade for a couple of years. Who cares about the notch? 1" more screen in a near identical case.... winner winner!
