Apple missed out on the opportunity to have a clip on battery charger instead of this. I can see clipping It on and having it charge in your pocket. It’s thin enough that it wouldn’t bother you.

what a poorly thought out product. if you want to carry your wallet with your phone, use a case wallet product.

...if you have used a Card Ninja then why in the world would you swap to Apple's Magsafe Wallet?????!?

The Ninja sticks to your phone (it doesn't come off when you insert into pockets) AND holds way more cards and actually looks smaller and slimmer than the Magsafe Wallet...??!?!?

o_O
Because the Card Ninja won’t shield your cards from being demagnetized. Now that Apple put magnets in the back of the phone you have to use a shielded wallet. So now you’ll need the hypothetical CardNinja 2.0 that’s shielded and once you do that you can no longer charge on a normal Qi charger like you can now.

Apple didn’t just make a terrible wallet, they completely ruined it for anyone who wants a permanently affixed 2-3 card wallet and still wants wireless charging.

I’m also worried about cards or licenses etc falling out of the wallet - whether the leather loosens or it’s just not tight. First thing I thought when listening to the keynote.

iPhone MagSafe is so bad I am waking up saying morning affirmations of gratitude for lightening connectors.

I am grateful for my health
I am grateful for clean air
I am grateful for Lightening connectors

So MacRumors goes along with the trend of putting these clickbait-emojis on their cover?

Should we expect those idiotic fake Facial expressions as well?

Some questions I’ve had.
Does apple pay work through the wallet?
Is the case falling off only a issue for skinny jeans?
Does regular wireless charging work? - I have this case for my 11 Pro.

It’s one of my best purchases and I get complimented on it all the time. I haven’t decided if I’m getting a 12 yet but I’d order the same case. Also wireless charging does work. I have a debit card, ID and transport card in my case. Taking the case off for magsafe charging sounds irritating to me.

The concept is good. They need to have a bit of a rethink for version 2.0 though.

They absolutely did not design the wallet to get stuffed into a pants pocket. This is meant for going into and out of a purse - most likely a small clutch style. It's sort of astonishing (and yet, kinda predictable) that the review did not consider that at all.
If it’s going into a purse or clutch, no need for a wallet - just saying.

What about those comments that the wallet is sprung, to keep a single card as secure as three? There are still things we don’t know for sure yet. I reckon we need a tear-down of the wallet.

What about the NFC ID of all magsafe accessories? If the phone can detect the wallet being attached it surely can notice it getting detached? Isn’t this something that can be notified on, via shortcuts or otherwise?

Finally, if/when the rumoured tile-like tracking tech ever gets announced, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was revealed that the wallet has it built in already...

Like I said, we need a tear-down :D

Anyone think these accessories were designed when the magnets were stronger, but Apple had to weaken them to comply with pacemaker health regulations? Just a theory.

I like the idea of these wallets, but I carry two credit cards, a debit card, my car keycard and my license. Magnetic is a non-starter, though.

Not true....only certain types of magnets affect credit cards. The wallet is not shielded...there's a magnet built right into it!

Credit card strips are designed to withstand the very strong rare earth magnets used with almost all magnetic cases as well as those used in the iPhone. The only cards with issues are temporary magnetic strip cards like hotel card keys that are programmed on site and not designed for long term use with a single "code" on them.

If that case works today with a wireless charger, it will work with the iPhone 12 as well. MagSafe is only "proprietary" with MagSafe accessories and has nothing to do with the fact that it is still Qi wireless charging capable (other than the faster charging speeds with MagSafe specific accessories)...you're not "losing" anything...

Does your current case really charge wirelessly? You have to remove the cards though??

You can always use an adhesive tape or similar to you stick this or other wallet on the back of your phone. If of course you want to.

Why do you have a “Personal ID” card that isn’t your driver’s licence?

Apple Wallet has both my bank cards (one is Visa, other is MasterCard). If my iPhone is low on battery, my Watch can be used.

I don’t have Amex, an no longer a student (most people aren’t), and if I had to go to the gym, I have a few options: bring the card alone, keep it in the car, dust off my wallet, or swap my employee ID/swipe card out for the gym card.

Never said it was for everyone, but this world you live in has been hypothetical to me so far.

I have worried about power outages or either Visa or Mastercard system being down (it has happened before a few years ago), but then they’d also have trouble with charging me other than via cash, and the risk of that is very low. Also, having both a Visa and MC is reassuring.
Well, the rest of the world is a bit different from the US. You usually have a personal ID card that you should carry with you everywhere just like a foreigner is obligated to have his passport at hand (many countries could impose fines if you dont wear one with you in public and police stops you). The driver's license is usually not a sustitute to the personal ID card so if you have a car, you need to carry both of these cards. This leaves you with only one slot left in Apple Wallet which is usually not enough for the vast majority of the people around the globe. That said, my point was that Apple accessories division should focus on more innvative products just like the original iPad cover was, instead of designing wallets that poses a high risk of lossing your most important cards.

Here;s a question.

This guy (you may know who he is!) who was always wearing jeans.

What do you think this guy would have thought during the design and testing stage when he tried using this product, before release, to be sure it was up to his incredibly high standards to be sold to the public?

EXACTLY! I doubt the wallet would have been released - at least in its current state. I just can’t believe that no one tried putting it in their, as one MR poster said, “gay ass skinny jeans”! Hahahaha!

I got mine yesterday, so far I really like it:
  • I used to have a wallet case for my iPhone X which held 3 cards (license, credit card, car key) which is all I really need. So in terms of capacity it's perfect for me.
  • I've never put my phone in my pocket like the reviewer does in the video. I hold the phone in my palm, with my thumb and middle finger along the edges and my index finger at the top, and use my index finger to open my pocket while I slide the phone in. I got into the habit with my old case, which had a lot more texture and tended to "stick" to the fabric of my pocket. I also don't wear super tight jeans so the pockets have plenty of space.
  • One thing I didn't even think of, but now I really like, is the fact I can remove the wallet and put it back without taking my phone out of my pocket. With my old case, I'd have to take out my phone, open the flap, pull out the card I want, then carefully hold on to my phone while using the card with my other hand. Now I can just pull out the wallet sleeve and keep my phone safely in my pocket. When I'm done I just slide the wallet back in my pocket and it sticks back on the phone.

Yeah this isn’t true. The Apple website clearly says that the wallet is shielded likely with a piece of metal embedded in the leather that sits between the magnets in the wallet and the cards.

And while you’re certainly correct that hotel card keys (LoCo) are much more susceptible to being wiped by design than credit cards (HiCo) a rare earth magnet can absolutely corrupt a CC magstrip. A quick Google search will provide many examples.

I guess I just don’t think it’s a great practice to put CC’s, despite their higher magnetic coercivity, next to an array of magnets all the time. While it might not fully wipe the card it doesn’t take a lot to corrupt them enough to make them unusable as evidenced by the fact a few scratches can sometime lead to cards not working.

You are correct...sorry. The info I had read so far did not seem to show shielding (other than the leather itself) between the magnet and storage area. Yet another reason why the magnet is so thin and maybe not strong enough for some people.

I still think it is a great product for what it was most likely designed for...NOT a full wallet replacement.
