I mean seriously folks, it's almost like an iPhone without the phone for 200 iMessage and facetime included...

Who can complain about that??????????

Are you unfamiliar with MR forums? lol.

Apple could give them away free and you’d have complaints around here about a $10 shipping charge from that greedy, money grubbing, bean counting, non-visionary Tim Cook (who only cares about shareholders and the stock price).

Well that's Apple for you. Base should have been 64gb and even then started at $149. There's no way these should cost more than $299 for the 256gb (and that's a lot).

I will say I was very surprised that a YouTuber managed to edit video on one of these using a lot of dongles and LumaFusion.
It's essentially an underclocked iPhone 7 sans the phone part. Anything that phone can handle, the iPod touch can handle as well. At any rate, the small screen is going to limit what people are willing to do on it anyways, so the processor update is there to run some of the more demanding games and maybe future-proof it for the next 2-3 years.

everybody CHILL lol

You are not required to buy this product. I repeat, you are NOT required.

But all jokes and sarcasm aside,

I really like it. And the fact that I can go pick that up for 200? I like that even more so.

A lot of people might have a cheap Android, but want iOS experience. Here ya go.

A lot of people might have an iPhone, but need the iPod as a secondary device for convenience.

I mean the list is endless, and again they're only charging 200 which sounds reasonable to me.

I might want to just keep and iPod touch or 2 around the house to check news, email, whatever because I don't feel like carrying my phone around.

And for $249 Apple is selling the 32GB SE, with more features and better specs, with the exception of having an A9 vs. an A10 processor — yet they’ve discontinued that model. I’d prefer that any day over this.

I’m still trying to understand why Apple thinks I would pay $200 for a 7 year old device with a 3 year old chip, for something which even according to your own list of reasons to own, is nothing more than a non-essential extravagance. Other than Enterprise considerations, this device flys in the face of Apple’s typical M.O. in that it otherwise caters to a consumer niche market with such a low profit margins it wouldn’t otherwise make sense. You keep saying “a lot of people” might want the device for some niche purpose, but that’s not a lot of people in terms of Apple’s individual product’s customer base.

If Apple positioned this with a VOIP phone app it would make more sense for consumer use, maybe. But even then, there’s not even optional connectivity with a cellular network to make use of Apple’s new core services of subscription music, video and gaming. What would have made more sense was dropping the cellular radio from the SE and offering it as an entry level iPod device for those few consumers who might want that, and continuing to offer the regular SE with an A10 chip. Or a true gaming device with a larger display, like the iPhone 7 without a cellular radio — one that could actually run Fortnite for instance. In fact — as has been brought up numerous times — the iPhone 7 is actually a much better value than the iPod Touch, with or without activating the cellular network.

Enterprise considerations notwithstanding, Apple would have made a better consumer choice launching the iPhone 7 in multiple colors with a new iPad/Apple Watch-like data plan where the network service could be added nominally to a family plan. The carrier-free model could come with an Apple SIM that didn’t require activation to run like an iPod. Then customers would have the ability to enable it should they ever need the cellular network — or again, drop the cellular radio for a base model while continuing to offer the phone.

Or, how about just using an Apple Watch for these things? That’s the future of Apple’s business, and addresses most of the uses you outline the need for an iPod Touch. For the same money, one can get an Apple Watch. And the iPod Touch doesn’t even support the Apple Watch! Now that’s a real reason for buying an iPod Touch — an Android customer who needs an iOS device to use an Apple Watch. That seems like a missed opportunity.

It’s nice you see the limited value here for yourself, but it’s very odd by Apple’s standards — at least as a consumer product, especially when they’ve discontinued other products like the SE which were far more useful to general consumers.

Fail... I love Apple but FIIO wipes the floor with Apple in the DAP lineup. The hardware software and storage options are far superior.

IMHO:
- could be great SIP (VOIP) phone for home / work
- actually prefer the smaller form factor even with iPhones - went from 6s to SE and have no plan to buy a new iPhone if Apple won't make a smaller phone again ... who wants to carry those huge phablets around at all times?

The problem is SE is very hard to get these days (in Europe at least).

i'm sorry but they need to bring back some type of old school Ipod. I would never take a device with a glass screen on a workout especially so bulky. I'm sure this works for so people but it's not for everyone.

I think they should also make a phone for kids (but not only for kids) along the lines of the iPhone 5C. I have a 11 year old niece and while I would like her to have an Apple device (just to be compatible), no way that I am getting an expensive, metal, glass, easily breakable phone for the kid.

Sometimes I am wondering whether Apple execs have kids at all ;-)

You can use your Airpods and Apple Watch in do not disturb mode, that's what I do if I want a quiet night run :)
nope, even the ear buds pop out of my ear when I left heavy. I don't need some wireless pod on the ground for someone to step on.

My current iPhone SE doesn’t seem to have too much of a problem lasting all day. (Admittedly it’s 30-month old battery doesn’t make it easy, but if I were to have it replaced, it definitely wouldn’t have an issue.)
I want to go to SE size again really bad. 7 is cool and all, but I want a 7 in SE size. Yeah replacing the battery would make old phone like new.... if only the processor could last years with newer iOS versions. The 7 seems to be doing that (I mean they just released the iPod 7 with a 7 processor that is even underclocked!”

I hadn’t really thought about that. I don’t use them, but I bet declines would be a challenge for keeping them in.

Sounds like what you’d need are the new Beats wireless headphones that secure over the ears. I might be looking into those myself...

That is just one issue, I'm getting tired of all this devices that i have to keep track of that need to be charged. 2 hours in the gym suck the life out the phone let alone earbuds. With the Ipod it's just one device with the wired headphone that also act as a safety device if it slips out of my pocket from hitting the ground. The Ipods still serve a purpose.

2 hours in the gym on my iPhone maybe drops 10-15% by the time I leave. And that’s streaming music and video over LTE to BT Headphones, texting, reading the News App, running timers and generally keeping the backlight on a lot. You probably need a new battery.

My gym has rubber flooring. I rarely drop my phone, but when I do, it bounces. I’ve never broken the glass on my screen in the 12 years I’ve been using iPhones, except once. It was the one time I did drop my iPhone using wired earbuds, the phone pulled the earbuds out of my ears, fell through the tracks on the elliptical machine, but the earbuds cable got caught by the treads going around, and tangled up in the tracks, pulling the iPhone off the floor where it was resting safely, up into the treads where it got crushed. That was the last time I used wired headphones at the gym.

I don’t really have any issue charging all my devices, but to each his own. I’d rather not have to keep up with charging an iPod and a phone.

For less than $200 you can now get a new LG V20 phone with a 4-channel DAC with fine tunable equalization software, all connected to a headphone jack. It also comes with a removable, easily swappable battery (runs around $20 for spares), standard 64GB storage, and a mini-SD storage expansion slot. Oh, and of course, comes with standard smart phone camera and messaging features. I would need a very heavy set of compelling reasons to pay $200-$400 for an iPod instead.

You said LG V20! Buah ha haha ha haaaaaaaaaa!!

And that's funny how? The LG V series phones are known for their great sound systems integrated with the headphone jack. I mentioned the older V20 as being still available for a bargain price. I've owned it as well as the V40, and they both generate superb sound through nice wired headphones. I also own an iPhone 6S+, last Apple model to have a jack, and though it sounds pretty good, it doesn't compare to the V20/30/40. Whatever, glad it cheered you up ;)

Android phones are garbage. And this is coming from someone who actually buys and tests multiple flagships per year, in order to get a real world comparison to new iPhones. To each their own however :)

I still use my 2012 iPod Touch every night to watch YouTube, Netflix, etc. while lying in bed. I wear glasses for both near- and far-sightedness, and have a field of about 6-10" away from my eyes where I can see in focus without my glasses (and fall asleep without wearing them!) At that distance the 4" screen of the Touch 5G is sufficiently large and detailed enough. And because it's thinner and lighter (and older) than my phone I can roll over and can sleep on it, knock it onto the floor, etc., without worrying about damage or it making a loud clunk in the middle of the night!

Best of all, when I occasionally hold the iPod 6" above my head to watch video while lying on my back ("Why?", you might ask!), if I drop the thing and it hits my face, it hurts a lot less than dropping my phone on my face. It really is quite light.

I have been waiting until Apple added a decent processor update to replace my 2012, especially since I have to tether it to the charger with a 3' cable all the time, as the battery is un-chargeable, and it certainly is not worth replacing at this point. Unless the reviews indicate poor battery life like the 6th gen ones, I will be buying a 2019 Touch in the near future.

How do they repair older devices?
Airpods 2 is built from leftover Airpod parts.
you say potato, I say tomato..

You might not understand the difference between keeping small stocks of parts for repair purposes locally and parts used for manufacturing in China.
