This is exactly what I think

The A10 is underclocked because of heat dissipation and battery size

I guess it has 2 gb of ram, but let’s see what Ifixit will say about this

Yeah, I'm very curious about that. Because the big question (at least for me lol) is whether iOS 13 will cut off by chip (either the A8 or A9) or by RAM (2 gb or higher).

They're most likely goal is not to shut out enterprise or small business owners. Unless they want the whole tech business industry to go towards Android (which probably won't happen).

Apple is certainly difficult to deal with in regards to their B2B setup and development/app regulations. But so far I've had no problems.

Only the iPod touch 3rd Gen (old small iPhone 3/4 sized iPods) have been discontinued for us with our apps and sleds. Which isn't bad at all with all things considered.

These sleds cost more then the phones/ipods these days.

Which really has me scratching my head over not upgrading the device to Touch ID. If this is meant to support Enterprise for at least the next 3 years, then wouldn't enhanced security be a desirable feature? Or is it just simpler to have one device with the same code that everyone who knows the ID can use without any custom setup for fingerprints?

IMHO the a8 will be cut off , a9 won’t

In doing so neither ram nor display size would be an issue

Given the iPod Touch was updated with 2GB RAM, I'm gonna bet that's the cutoff. Like others, I will be surprised if they cutoff the A9, and even more surprised if they cut off the SE, which shouldn't be if the 6S is supported -- especially now that the iPod Touch has been released with only a processor and RAM update.

The only thing about the A8 being cut off though is the iPad Mini 4 and Air 2. The Mini 4 was in Apple's current lineup until very recently. You think they'd cut that out?

My Airpods don’t drop out of my ears, sound decent for what I use it to listen to, and I hardly call $200 every two years breaking the bank (especially when I managed to sell off my older pair of Airpods for a bit of extra cash).

One man's treasure is another man's garbage and vice versa. The new Beats version at least sounds like it might have halfway decent sound quality (wouldn't count on it given Beats reputation, though).

I was talking about Apple Watch plus Airpods. I don’t know why you suddenly brought in the iPod touch, which amongst other things, still has the headphone jack, and comes with a pair of wired earbuds.

This thread is not about the Apple Watch.... It's about the iPod Touch.... Hmmmm. Yeah why would I be talking about something ON-TOPIC rather than off-topic? Who is making a strawman argument now???

And of course I am not going to get all this gear just to exercise at the gym.

Let’s drop the straw man arguments. They are so unbecoming.

Let's just drop it period since you have no argument. ;)

Because you replied to my quote about AirPods, which was in response to an earlier response about the Apple Watch?

The context of that sub-thread was @Altis wishing for a refresh of the iPod shuffle, because he felt the iPod touch still didn't meet his needs in the gym. I responded by pointing out how the Apple Watch now fulfils a similar purpose (portable music on the go). He responded by saying that the iPod shuffle had a headphone jack (while the Apple Watch didn't). I responded by pointing out how Apple "solved" that issue with the AirPods, basically pointing out how the Apple Watch and AirPods were clearly designed to complement each other.

Then you came in with your diatribe about the cons of the AirPods, which while technically not wrong, felt incredibly out of context with the manner in which the conversation had been developing up till then.

Why do I get the feeling you simply saw my one response, then jumped on it for whatever reason, without bothering to understand the entire context?

Actually, my reply has nothing to do with whether it's used with a watch or an iPod or a home stereo system. It's about the Airpods. They're darn expensive for a wireless version of the junk ear pieces that traditionally came with Apple products. I could never keep the wired ones in my ears (don't fit right and don't seal right so no bass and the midrange wasn't any better).

Such an insulting comment:

Thanks for contributing.

On a more useful note: I wish this [iPod touch] came out a few months ago, it's the perfect size for my daughter. She likes her tablet but little kids can definitely hold an iPod easier.

I will say in support of Abazigal [despite his utterly rude comment]: how is the FLAC format superior? Just because it's open source? That itself would be ridiculous, have you ever had a device that can't play MP3?
FLAC is a lossless, yet still compressed format, to take less space. Nothing like MP3 which is lossy.

Most of my 3000+ CD collection is ripped to FLAC and as such is an exact copy of the disc. It's the best lossless format and has been for years. Wouldn't touch a device that lacks support.

Well the good news for me is, I can count on my Iphone 7 plus receiving IOS updated for at least a few more years, they aren't going to drop support for a10 devices anytime soon now

yes, to me Apple upgrading the touch strongly suggests A8 devices will not be supported in IOS13
[doublepost=1559365245][/doublepost]
My guess is the 2GB models will not lose support, so iPad Air 2 with the A8X and iPad mini 4 (A8) should slip in under the wire. Who knows, maybe they’ll only drop the A7.

I wish you were right since I own an iPad Air 2

Even if A8 2GB devices will be supported I'd expect the performance to be underwhelming

Hard to say. I haven’t really been following iOS 13 rumors that closely, but in their WWDC preview article MacRumors says “iOS 13, like iOS 12, is expected to introduce speed improvements for devices, including older devices” so it seems there is some reason to be hopeful.

Am I the only one who’d rather buy a renovated iPod classic/nano (great times...) with huge battery life and widely increased storage than spending much money on a device which has no phone calls but is nearly the same at the one I’m holding right now?
I think there would be plenty of people who would buy an click-wheel ipod reissue without even thinking twice.

Edit. Just think of a tiny device kind of iPod nano with WiFi and bt connectivity: you could listen to your huge library but also stream and a wise thing would be a 4G connection, just for streaming, since apple is pushing toward that direction exactly as Amazon’s Kindle has 3G just for books. You don’t necessarily have to transform it into a phone nor a phone duplicate without antenna (which is now).
I think they’re cannibalising their own market letting a pool of users unsatisfied.

This is the same reason I will buy one. Any audiophile knows that Bluetooth is straight up trash compared to having the device hardwired. It's sad, but it is true.
For less than $200 you can now get a new LG V20 phone with a 4-channel DAC with fine tunable equalization software, all connected to a headphone jack. It also comes with a removable, easily swappable battery (runs around $20 for spares), standard 64GB storage, and a mini-SD storage expansion slot. Oh, and of course, comes with standard smart phone camera and messaging features. I would need a very heavy set of compelling reasons to pay $200-$400 for an iPod instead.

Obviously iOS 13 will run on this new device, so I'd guess that this iPod actually assures us that our SE's will be supported by the coming OS.

Can’t say that for certain. We know 4” screens are supported, but the iPod Touch still got an A10 processor and the SE has an A9. So the A9 could still be the cutoff. That said, it would also cut off the 6S, and that’s been the subject of some debate as to whether Apple would do that at this juncture.

If their goal is to encourage upgrades, then they’ll do it. Certainly the ignominious way they dumped their surplus of SE stock on Clearance sales suggests they didn’t want to keep supporting it. But it means the 6S goes with it, unless there’s some key difference between the two which would leave the SE behind.

Can anyone share a GeekBench "System Information" screenshot ?

MR did a terrible job showcasing their screenshot !

There is Useful Information there, but I can't read the MR screenshot :(

Only if you just want more storage and maybe more freedom with Rockbox 3rd party OS but you'll be missing out on modern advancements like hires audio codecs (FLAC, MQA) and high bitrate bluetooth (aptX HD, LDAC).

Otherwise, you're better off getting a modern device with high end features and sound quality like Sony NW-A55 and NW-A56. Or, more budget friendly ~$40 Benjie BJ-T6 (hardware v2) that can dual boot Rockbox OS.

Hey thanks for the advice! I’ve seen before the possibility to upstage my classic to ssd... is it really faster or worth it overall? It look easy and not so expensive... but i wouldn’t be able to use the apple os right?
However my idea was to get a Sony Walkman, the one called NWA45N (or similar, I get lost in this nomenclature let’s say, around $170, surely not the $1k one lol) but I was waiting Apple’s move in this direction hoping for an upgrade to these damn music players. I remember a decade ago this devices ruled the tech ambient: there was a great competition between Apple and Samsung, and they both had really great products. Samsung started first actually, and had really cool and useful designs, but then the iPod ruled. How ironic, neither one of both is now producing a device great as those were.
The product you suggested seems really cool... and economic. However if the audio quality is great as you say... it’s probably a no brainier. As it seems Apple’s program is to shut down this sector I’d probably move to one of those... thank you very much!!!

I was really hoping that the write-up would say:

Hands-On With Apple's New 7th-Generation iPod Touch”

Just like the old one. Cool.

[doublepost=1559307800][/doublepost]
But the battery life.... they probably don’t want to release 4” phone size since the battery wouldn’t last all day.

My current iPhone SE doesn’t seem to have too much of a problem lasting all day. (Admittedly it’s 30-month old battery doesn’t make it easy, but if I were to have it replaced, it definitely wouldn’t have an issue.)

everybody CHILL lol

You are not required to buy this product. I repeat, you are NOT required.

But all jokes and sarcasm aside,

I really like it. And the fact that I can go pick that up for 200? I like that even more so.

A lot of people might have a cheap Android, but want iOS experience. Here ya go.

A lot of people might have an iPhone, but need the iPod as a secondary device for convenience.

I mean the list is endless, and again they're only charging 200 which sounds reasonable to me.

I might want to just keep and iPod touch or 2 around the house to check news, email, whatever because I don't feel like carrying my phone around.

I mean seriously folks, it's almost like an iPhone without the phone for 200 iMessage and facetime included...

Who can complain about that??????????

My 6th gen still works perfectly.
The fact that they double the cost of the unit for 256GB version is an obscene markup. That memory module cost all of $30 tops... not $200.

Well that's Apple for you. Base should have been 64gb and even then started at $149. There's no way these should cost more than $299 for the 256gb (and that's a lot).

I will say I was very surprised that a YouTuber managed to edit video on one of these using a lot of dongles and LumaFusion.
