Not the case. So while you “think”, the fact is nothing has been revolutionary, as reports have it that the M6 could be. The M2 was the biggest YoY jump, and not by much.

Did you even do the math? Based on this chart, the M4 was a 26% jump (in multi-core) compared to M3, while the M2 had "only" a 15% jump over the M1.

If you use the Battery of your Laptop on a regulary base you should just let it changed or change it yourself.
This is nothing new on this planet and i have changed the Akku in some Laptops (Macbook Pro 2008) up to 3 Times mostly after 2-1/2 to 3 Years.

My MBA M2 Akku is still top notch (97%) because i do not use it so often without AC Plugged.
I Still love to just unplug and still have my Complete Data with me without anything else conected and do not have to sacrifice with 16GB/1TB, this is also very useful when being on Fair´s.

My Lenovo Akku was almost done after 2 Years, with mostly AC plugged in...

Since my MBA M2 is now 3 years old, I have also thought about something new but I don't need it so I will probably wait with a new purchase.
What I was almost more itching to buy is the Mac Mini M4 because you can change the internal hard disk so easily and that is a really cheap snap but I just don't need it so I leave that too.

And the moral of the story is, as always, buy a sensible configuration and you'll get more out of it.

Today i would buy a MBA M4 24GB/1TB.
Almost exactly what I just got. I opted for 512 GB SSD since it's not my primary computer and Photos/Lightroom sync can optimize storage on this device (ie. not keep everything locally).

My M1 Ultra Mac Studio is working just fine. As a current M4 Ultra does not exist, I have a M4 Pro Mac Mini configured with 64GB of Ram and 8 TB SSD in the box as a battle spare that arrived long before the tariff issue started.

It may be years before we consider any upgrades at inflated prices.
