looks weird when people show their desktop computers form the back and are ashamed to show the front:))

According to the tech specs, the power brick is 143W, USB-C/Thunderbolt tops out at 100W. Since the M1 can run off a potato for a month I assume that it's the screen that uses the power.

What would be interesting to know is whether the power cable is carrying some variety of USB to an Ethernet adapter in the brick (leading to the possibility of alternative bricks with more ports) or if the Ethernet is in the computer and the power cable just incorporates an Ethernet patch cable.

The other obvious observation is that the magnetic connector is huge, so this is not the same Magsafe that is rumoured to be returning to the MBP.

I think it's also to have some headroom for other, more powerful iMacs in the future as it is very easy to switch up machines with the magnetic connection.

While the colors and M1 chip are enticing I’m still waiting for the larger size 5K or 8K to come
I would rather buy the M2 as it will be more refined

Maybe Apple is using aesthetics and embarrassment to get us to shut down more often. Instead of putting it to sleep drawing power all night, be cool and take out the power cord and turn the front to the wall. It barely takes a minute now to reconnect the MagSafe and boot back up in the morning.

In the next model they will bring back the Apple logo or it will have no chin. I'd rather wait for that model.

I love everything about my new Green Monster except the Migration Assistant bricked it. Apple Support is turfing me to a supervisor since there is no simple way to restore these new M1’s so wish me luck and I’ll keep you all posted.

If it wasn't pastel in front, everyone who color grades videos or photos would have to mask the bottom part. The reason for having a white border is probably the same.
When doing any kind of image editing implying color controls, you can't have a vivid color in front of your eyes. It would inevitably bias your color perception.
Just saying.

I’m very familiar with marketing products and lighting.

Apple’s rendering is just a bit too off. There is no attempt to even distinguish a difference between the chin which is not only lighter in colour, but a different material.

It’s fine if they want to achieve a base colour, but just don’t pass it off as only one colour throughout.

Edit: That said, it doesn’t look as off on some of the other colours such as blue.

I saw one in person today and it's hard to describe. The stand colour (and keyboard/mouse colour) being anodised metal change markedly depending on the light and the chin colours are set to the shade when light is being reflected. The stand colour appears darker in these images as it's in the shade.

Personally I would have preferred the chin to be metal so each pastel surface has the same sheen.

The front looks worse every time I see it. I really hope the new 27” version has a different design.

It looks great from the back and like a terrible after thought from the front, I can remember when apple made great products that worked and looked great too.

Good luck Lawerence. Looking forward to hearing all about your recovery experience 👍
Apple Store was able to reset it back to factory. It something a user can do at home, unfortunately the newest Mac I have is a 2013 iMac so I could not do this myself due to software/hardware compatibility (damn Mac's last too long). Migration went perfectly the second time and I am now able to enjoy my machine.

Good to know that you're sorted and enjoying your new Mac.

It's a curious sort of thing that the white bezels are bothering some people. I know it stands out considerably, it being the only white element of the iMac; however, those of us who used iMacs before the year 2007 would not consider light/white bezels to be abnormal. My first Mac was an iMac G5, and I've always preferred that white polycarbonate aesthetic — I was disappointed when I saw how bleak the aluminum iMacs looked. I always thought that there should have been an opaque-white successor to the original Intel iMac, designed to look more similar to the original MacBook.

If you have a spare Mac that isn't too old, it is fairly easy to revive a M1 using the Configurator2 app.

Edited to add: Glad to subsequently read the Apple Store was able to get it fixed for you.
