Almost 12 hours into my day I am at 87% so I am not a good candidate for this but I would get one for those few times extra battery is needed. Thing is I bought one last year, used it some, then sold it for a fraction of its original value since I could not use it with the 11 MAX. I wish I knew this could last more than a year and fit next years phone. It would be easier to buy knowing it will last for at least 2 years.

these battery packs do last longer than a year - it would seem your buying new phones is the issue with a need to upgrade every year :)

if you can afford to upgrade that regularly and lose value of last year's model, the case is just one more added cost.

buy what you want though. life's short. have fun.

what more amazes me is how many comments i've gone through and none have said the obvious: this pack is ugly! uglier than ugly. Jony must have had a bad week. if you need extra battery just take a powerbrick and plug in. surely with today's longer battery life almost no one will need extra battery every single day. maybe real estate agents or those who talk all day every day.

i'd rather have nice looking phone with a flat battery than to put that case on it. ;)

That'd be great for an extra long international flight. Not having to worry about external battery packs would be brilliant.

most modern planes have USB charge ports at each seat - even in economy. sadly this just seems to encourage some people to not put Flight mode on and sit on Facebook during the flight. Airlines need to either enforce the flight mode or just let people do what they want. If it truly is a safety concern then we should be able to report passengers and have them put on no fly lists for endangering everyone else.

Examples of situations where I’ve successfully relied on the prior smart battery packs:

1) family vacations, e.g. Disneyland. Very draining on battery because:
(a) my sony cameras use an iPhone app that runs in the background to synchronize gps information into the photos
(b) i take a lot of photos with the camera app
(c) i use apps on the phone to get around (e.g. Disney app to get fast passes or check line lengths, or maps app to find my way around town, etc)
(d) while waiting in lines, i use the phone to keep myself busy (answering work emails, reading docs, surfing the news)
(e) these tend to be very long days, with active use over a 12-hour-or-so period.
2) work travel
(a) on travel days I can easily be using my phone for more than 12 hours between time zone changes, flights, sitting in airports and ubers, etc.
(b) heavy use while traveling (music, videos, Uber, maps, reading and responding to work mail, reading news, etc.)
3) swim meets
(a) my kids spends 5 minutes in the pool, but we sit there 6 or 7 hours.
(b) the phone keeps us entertained while we wait, and also is used to track meet results and keep track of seeds and event timing

In each of those situations, in the past, I’ve run my battery down to zero, even the old “plus”-sized phones which had pretty great battery life. I relied on battery packs with built-in lightning cables or with add-on lightning cables. The smart battery case is a much more elegant solution.

first i thought this person really needs this battery pack - perfect match customer. i'm not, they are.

but the more i read the sadder i felt.

i'm going to assume you didn't wag work to take the kids to Disneyland. standing in line answering work emails? Disney need to provide more entertainment and speed up the lines. seriously. if it's a day off, you need to forget work. work/life balance.

if you talk to your Uber driver you'll learn a lot more than being online about where you are.

sadly seems the world is more connected than ever and yet we are becoming more isolated.

ScreenTime needs to be your app of choice. Tim Cook recommends it.

Do you really think that if there was a chance of endangering life they would even allow phones / cell connections in planes?

30,000 feet up and you don’t get a connected to cell towers.

Almost every post here is about how ugly the case is but it’s not for fashion. It’s for a utilitarian need.

Again- you clearly haven’t see the posts that actually discuss what people use this for.

Seems that if you use your phone as intended there is no way you’d get a full day from it. By a full day I mean 10 hours from leaving home to returning and not charging during the day.

It’s not needed every day for most but I can’t get a full day of moderate use from my 11 pro without a battery pack of some sorts and sometimes having a pack and cable all wrapped up in my pocket isn’t practical when working.

You’re right. I just placed an order, the case will be here in two days. Thanks for simplifying the decision for me. It’s just part of the cost.

This is a bizarre post.

Exactly who put you in charge of judging my life?

I've been planning a few weekend holidays abroad recently (Dublin and Marseille primarily) and I think the case appeals to me for those sorts of scenarios. I'd leave my laptop at home, just bring my iPhone 11 Pro, the charger, and this case and I'd have the peace of mind that there's pretty much no circumstances in which I'll run out of power, even if a hostel or something doesn't have a charging point near the bed. The battery life on the 11 Pro is already incredible, and there's no way I'd need this in my day-to-day routine. But for something like that - holidays, trips, etc. - it could be really useful.

One of the cool features it seems to have is that the iPhone can recognise how much battery the case has left and display it in the same way it displays, say, AirPods. Is this feature only in the Apple Smart Battery Case? Or is it also available in other (presumably cheaper) third-party battery cases?

Is your bullet-pointed breakdown of how you spend your time in three detailed scenarios just for our information & digestion, or do you invite comment by listing out on this public forum?
I was responded to a question: “those who are buying this - why?” My “bullet-pointed breakdown” was a direct answer to a direct question. Nowhere in my explanation of how I use my battery case was I inviting people to let me know if they thought I was spending insufficient quality time with my child or spending too much time working. I’m not sure how anyone could read my answer to an express question as inviting people to give me moral judgments about how I choose to spend my time.

Apparently the camera button on the case require an OS newer than 13.1.2 as it is not working with my iPhone 11 Pro Max that is still on 13.1.2.

Don't let it get to you. When the haters run out of points to attack your main argument, that's when the more personal attacks come.

How dare you use your phone in ‘the happiest place on earth’

I mean, the audacity of it.

Way quicker access to the camera? A more ergonomically placed button for taking photos?
There is a dedicated camera button on the lock screen of your phone. The volume button functions just fine for taking pictures as well.

If you like it go for it I was just curious it doesn’t make sense to me though

Neither of those are quicker or more ergonomically. And I use both.

I feel guilty about purchasing these as someone who is on the yearly iPhone upgrade plan & is trying to slowly reduce my waste from products I buy. It feels so wasteful to have all these battery cases in my e-waste closet (which is getting crowded). I am having second thoughts about upgrading my iPhone every year too (until launch day comes).

Same here on all points. I am ready to jump off the train until order-eve and dang right back on it. Ha. They really got me this year, ordering at 8AM when I’m already at work and comfortable behind my screen.

Those who are buying this- why? Do you go on long hikes or go places where you don’t have a charger?

I watch an amazing amount of pornography. Also last year I went home with a questionable one night stand after a day/night of drinking. I woke up, removed her hoof from around my body, and discovered I was in the middle of nowhere. My cellular watch had died, but my XS Max with Apple battery case had 15% left, enough for me to Uber my ass out of dodge. I shudder at the thought of having to wake her up to ask for a ride home, thank you Apple battery case.

I love the smart battery case... Except I'm on my 3rd one now with my iPhone 7. They fall apart after about a year and the battery loses a hefty chunk of capacity after about a year too but they are nice at first! Especially for Pokemon go!

My wife just bought me one for Christmas. I'll be using it on our upcoming trip as shooting a lot of 4k videos really takes a toll on the battery.

Still on the fence. Definitely want to wait a month or a few for reports if it warps like the XS Max one did and inconsistiently charges.
