The Logitech version uses the smart connector right? and if you want the keyboard detaches. Making it much lighter.

If you’re going third-party Logitech seems like the obvious way to go. What am I missing?

Which model are you talking about that has a removable keyboard? I only see a folio on their site for the 12.9 and that doesn't look like it detaches.

Yeah, before they resdesigned the IPP in 2018 they had a version where it detached. It doesn't nowadays.

Ok, I remember that one and wondering why they didn't try recreate the detachable bit for the new design? I'm assuming it's the same reason Brydge isn't doing it either: that back case would need to be thicker to accommodate the cables to the side where the Smart Connector used to live. I mean, flat ribbon cables/leads exist, right?

I actually think I might be wrong... I think the brand new one they might have gone back to it being detachable again! Mine is non-detachable.

I just saw the post for their new one but seems its made for the 5th gen? I think the case might be a bit big for the 3rd/4th gen but unsure if that would cause issues or not. Sounds like its still heavy as well so I might just stick to the folio case and my desktop Magic Keyboard for minimum travel weight.

At that price, I will stick with and continue to purchase my Magic Keyboard. Though, I would not mind a product that does not show as much oil and smudges.
Well said. Whoever picks certain materials at Apple is doing a lousy job when it comes to smudges from real world use.

Yeah, imma buy me the hell out of this right now. Too bad it's shipping out so late. This is what I wanted Brydge to do all along: Magnetic back, larger trackpad that works well. Boom. The only thing that's missing is not using the pin connectors. I think they're trying to save money doing it this way, but it would be cool if the keyboard itself could charge up the iPad as well. Perhaps in a future iteration, along with finding a way to engineer less wobbles. For me this seems great for $100 less than Apple's version with a much larger trackpad. Looking forward to running "macOS Lite" on my M1 12.9" iPad Pro eventually.

Seems like an expensive knockoff with compromises.
What is it knocking off then, some Logitech keyboard With the same functionality? What other product has a big trackpad like this one, plus function keys?

This one looks pretty good and can sub as a no keyboard carry with full protection, like a simple folio. The rigid flap would give it a larger desktop/lap footprint than the MK. Only for the 12.9” 2021 iPP. Whereas the Brydge claims their new one works with three generations of iPP. I’m now leaning towards the Apple 2021 MK, but the Logitech looks very versatile, and would save the expense of having to buy a simple folio. Though I assume there will be non-Apple, simple folios on the cheap.

Did they ever make it possible to turn off the trackpad?? I have the first trackpad version he showed in the video and my biggest complaint was accidentally tapping trackpad will typing and having it select something on the screen which was V annoying. This version looks dope though - Macrumors discount?!! haha

I am surprised that it does not have some kind of brake in the hinge or a kickstand to eliminate the wobble. Maybe it is something that will be improved in production models.

Yes. Scrolling is way smoother on the Magic Keyboard. Palm rejection seems to be nether as well. I had been testing the beta firmware too.

Do you have an issue where your cursor disappears till you restart your iPad?
I haven’t noticed the cursor disappearing and rarely restart the iPad.

Interesting. The scrolling was so awful with last year’s firmware that it’s a breath of fresh air to just have it function like a trackpad now. Palm rejection isn’t quite as improved as I’d hoped (I’m sure it’d be fine if I weren’t a “tap to click” type.)

Wow with the magnetic back this seems much better than the previous one. The deciding factor of getting this over the Magic Keyboard is going to be deciding whether the $100 price difference is worth it for me. Is The Smart Connection and a solid build worth the extra $100. I kinda think yes.

Well, that's even more unfathomable to me. macOS is a real full-fledged operating system. iPadOS is just a phone operating system. You can barely do anything substantive on it besides drawing. But to each his own I guess.
Nothing unfathomable about it. Not everyone needs all the features or wants to deal with the complexities of a desktop OS. These users prefer the simplicity, convenience and ease of use of iPadOS. If you need macOS, get a Mac.

I actually like this new design. I wish the design of the Magic Keyboard was something similar to this.

Why would anyone buy an iPad + keyboard when you can get a MacBook Air???
Once MacOS can be installed on the ipad Pro I suspect quite a few (myself included) would. My main PC has been a tablet with a keyboard the Lenovo X1 Tablet Gen 3
