USB-C is so unreliable. It never feels fully seated like the Lightning cable does. The slightest pull takes it out of the socket.

I’ve literally never heard this complaint from anyone before on the entire internet. Please check to see if your port or cable has damage!

USB-C has a very satisfying click to it. iPad Pro series has USB-C and I can lift the iPad by the cable with the rather heavy iPad hanging upside down and it still won’t come out.

The CEO of Sony Semiconductor was quoted last week by Nikkei as saying in a briefing session: "We expect that still images will exceed the image quality of single-lens reflex cameras within the next few years."

This has a lot to do with the AI-enabled image processing on phones which can make many images look wonderful to the average user, even though those images may not be what the photographer expected. Smartphones will certainly kill off lower end cameras - no more "point and shoot." They won't kill off larger interchangeable cameras, though - there are things physics can do with optics and sensor sizes that don't scale down completely. There's a Sony phone with a 1" image sensor that I lust over, if only I wasn't so locked in to Apple! :)
Well “Kill-Off” can mean several things.
There will always be areas where physics will be in favor of a professional camera - the only point is, for which users will it still be worth it.
For a long time, I was buying Nikon full-format cameras (last one the D850) - these days, it is not worth it anymore.
The additional weight and prize are not justifiable anymore - specially in most case the iPhone pictures even look better.

It might still make sense for other people (e.g. Pros and serious hobbyists), but this market is getting tighter and tighter in my view. So, I think, it is not only “point & shoot” that is dying out.

I can understand that but what happens in a few short years when a smaller cable is better, carrys more data?
Because data transfer rates aren't my concern, it's mostly moot, for me. C seems to be a standard that keeps getting built upon, fwiw. Its theoretical cap is 40gbps; the iPad with C caps out at just 10. Look how long USB A has been around. I don't see it dissolving in a few years at all. Universal chargers for electronics are always going to be a boon for the consumer. Especially the ones that don't constantly upgrade their hardware, which I am betting is most people.

The design of the USB-C port is inherently flawed - in that keeping the connection in the middle allows for potential breaking. Samsung phones for years have had issues with loose female port receptors on the motherboards: Galaxy S21 and previous models, Note 20, and a few LG’s just to name a few, just have a look through XDA Forums.
I keep reading this on forums here, though I have yet to hear of a significant number of people with apple products that are just breaking. And the key here really is Apple products; many may very well have issues with their Notes or LG devices, but if they aren't on their Apple products equipped with USB C, isn't that really the more important stat?

I realizes its anecdotal, but my launch day Nintendo switch that my kids keep docking and playing handheld dozens of times a week has also had zero issues. No issues with Xbox controllers, earbud charging cases, or either Android devices, two of which are going on four years old now... Meanwhile, my lightning cables end up corroding within a year, more often than not. I've read that this is due to an arc occuring within the lightning port itself, and apaprently is also common. MR had an article on it way back in 2014, though causes were apparently unclear then.

If Apple saw it fit to equip more of their hardware than they haven't, at this point, with USB C, my thoughts are they have probably looked past the apparent shortcomings of USB C you mention. And they did this all by choice, not by some government pressure, afaik. The push for the universal cable should've happened much sooner. No cable will be forever, on that I agree.

MicroUSB is smaller than USB-C not just the male part of the port, yet a
So the female receptor on the motherboard.

Same goes for Lightning cable male port and female receptor.

The push for one cable is limited in scope as it works now but sooner a smaller cable will occur
The EU laws already take this into account and are written not to enshrine usb c as the only cable forever. When the industry agrees on the next standard cable, the eu legislation will move on to that.

Everyone has no problems with USB-C, except for Apple fanboys

Yeah those people woll jave to go from 5.4 mini screen to 4.7 inch SE i feel the SE will stick around for those who want small
No, no, no...the iPhone Mini 14 will come, don't try to kill it 🥲

I moved out of Fs and eventually into mirrorless quite a while ago, all for a living. I think the number shipped has a little further to fall, but then no further. Canon seems to be going for volume and market share, but Nikon seems to be trying to move upscale and make more profit from each, fewer, sale. Some car companies have done exactly the same, VW most recently changed from wanting to sell most units in the world to just pivoting for high prices. So if the mid-scale cameras (like DX, maybe) drop further, I think it will be because Nikon and Sony have chosen that as their strategy. We'll see what works. Somebody is probably going to drop out. Maybe Olympus, but I wonder if Nikon will also realize that cameras and lenses just aren't a very big part of their business and call it a day. Which would crush me.

I am personally indifferent to it. I do feel the issue (and the merits) have been way overinflated here on this forum, in part because it seems popular to trump up something which Apple isn’t doing as evidence that it’s somehow lagging behind.

Think netbooks, cheap phones, Netflix, smart speakers, folding phones, round smartwatches.

And then when Apple does do it, the narrative will shift to how it wasn’t such a huge deal in the first place, or it was a bad idea in hindsight.

Anything to keep the hate train moving.

I am already mentally preparing myself for the Pro Max to start at 1,499 Euro now, which means I will hold onto my 12 Pro Max another year. iOS doesn’t offer anything new anyway and it just makes less and less sense to update so frequently. You just end up using the same apps, the exact same way as before anyway.

I am so much wiser with age now 😇
You clearly came down from Mars if you think iOS 16 doesn’t offer new features.

Which is pretty much in line with Apple’s current business model. They know that people are hanging on to their phones longer, and have shifted to compensating by way of higher prices, more accessories and more services.

Upgrade your phone every year, or hang on to it for 4-5 years. Either way, Apple wins.

My 12 pro max cost $2000AUD when I got it in 2020. Now I’m just hoping to snap a 13 mini deal because I hate the big phone.

The most interesting thing for me is the cost. If the iPhone 14 is close in price to the 13 Pro come September, i’ll be opting for the 13 Pro. From the rumours the standard 14 just won’t be a big enough upgrade from the 12 I have now, but I am happy to be surprised. Not paying more than £799 for any phone though so that we be the deciding factor ultimately. I don’t need the 14 Max as I have an iPad already.

Think that’s a wise decision, 13 pro will be good value compared to the 14. I know you may not find 120hz important but that plus telephoto lens i think makes more sense than the 14 when it will have basically the same chip

To be honest the iPhone 12 I have now is still good enough in terms of what it can do and I’d be keeping it longer if the battery wasn’t so rubbish. Never experienced a phones battery degrade this much but that’s life. At least the 13 Pro would be a bit of an upgrade but we will see. If the prices are stupid I may still just pay £79 and get the battery replaced. We’ll see.

There is likely much we don’t know about the 14 Pro, after Apple announces it, there may be more excitement.
Im just a part time analysis but believe me: I’m absolutely sure from my sources that it will be the best iPhone ever made!

Ditching the mini makes no sense for the Apple we know in 2022. Maybe they are preparing to introduce the iPhone 14 Pro Max Ultra. Making the iPhone 14 the new mini. It would match the new naming scheme they introduced recently. You know, unifying all products.

Seriously, if they release this without USB-C it would be such a bad move from Apple and consumers buying it alike. Guess marketing won the pitch to bet on people upgrading AGAIN because of USB-C included on the 15 with the new EU rules.
The 13 mini is what I have and to tell the truth, I'm not real enamored with it. I like the color -- red, why can't a Pro have a red phone?? The battery life is not good, the camera's just adequate and the screen isn't something to write home about. I'll be upgrading to the 14 Pro I think... I had the 11 Pro Max before the mini, and it's just to darn big and heavy.

I like it having no notch, my android phone (yes, I have 2 phones, stupid me) has just a small circle for the camera and I really like that, and touch ID on the power button!
