Rip iPhone Mini. It will be missed be many

iPhone 14 Max will sell like hotcakes.
I doubt that we’ve seen the end of the iPhone Mini - I fully expect the iPhone SE4 when it’s released, spring of ‘24 to be the internals of the then current iPhone 15, in the body of the now current iPhone Mini 13

I made some searches about iPhone 14 Mini...

Don't know if it's more true then the rumours here....

But if it has any truth in it, I have a colour problem, gold or black?

Am still loving my 12 Pro Max and usually tempted by camera improvements / new camera functionality but with rising costs of living in the UK this could be the first time I keep my iPhone more than 2 years. Or move back to a carrier contract/plan having bought sim free for last few years if there are decent deals to be had.......
Keep a phone more than 2 years? 😧
How dare you???

Too bad the dummy models don't clue us in on the chip inside and its performance relative to iPhone 13 et al. I have the iPhone 13 Pro Max and I really like it, with the 120 Hz refresh. So I think the next iPhone I will buy must have USB-c... I really don't see a point in upgrading especially if the connector is still stuck at USB2.0 speeds.

OMG here we go again.

So you really think a few 10’s of MB/s is going to really make a difference in sync speeds or transferring data? All android phones use USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (or originally SuperSpeed usb 3.1 at 10Gbps or 1250 MegaBytes per second).

There is a lot more going on in iPhone data sync and file transfers that you don’t see which will still be slow.

Too many are asking “I want this” yet only thinking cable charging speeds or Simple sync or file data transfer.

Data transfer may see a decent bump but without real aplicable reason for it what’s the point when we have file share via wifi speeds?!

If Apple brings ProRes Raw settings - done in FCP that can be setup over sync to iPhone camera and third party apps and vice versa to FCP THEN we’ll have something VERY tangible!

Furthermore most android phones are not fully using that speed. Look at Sony’s Persia 1 IV and you’ll really see what you can do: 4K 120fps live feed to an add-on preview screen so that you can use the high end cameras vs the selfies. Or connect to a 4K high end camera and use the Xperia for 5G streaming connection (just like the Xperia 1 III or Xperia 1 Pro or Pro-I models.

That is something worth having a port change. Else Wi-Fi does the rest and EU just trying to flex over a leader that predated USB-C connector.

Change by itself isn’t necessarily good for all. It has to have reason or purpose applicable.

Beaks my heart. Mean girl! Lol. /s

At least iPhone mini’s will support the sweet top down ultrawide camera use ;)

For example. Apple gave the iPhone pro the ability to record pro res video but then didn’t up the data transfer speed.

ProRes xFer at usb2.0 speeds is much much slower than at 10 gbps. Approx 20 times slower.

I haven't had any battery issues with my mini. It easily lasts me an entire day, but I'm not a "power user", mostly email, web surfing and messaging. I do record a lot of 4k video and the battery holds up really well for that.

Ya I'm definitely a power user. I have to charge my regular 12 pro by at least 8-9pm most days.

I too doubt that we've seen the end of the Mini. But as much as I would like to see the next SE be a Mini, Apple is much more likely to use a more popular form factor like the XR/11/12/13 non-Pro line, in order to maximise sales.

The previous SEs were only compact because the older popular iPhone models happened to be compact.

These things become more and more serious competition for the SLR and mirror-less market …
The CEO of Sony Semiconductor was quoted last week by Nikkei as saying in a briefing session: "We expect that still images will exceed the image quality of single-lens reflex cameras within the next few years."

This has a lot to do with the AI-enabled image processing on phones which can make many images look wonderful to the average user, even though those images may not be what the photographer expected. Smartphones will certainly kill off lower end cameras - no more "point and shoot." They won't kill off larger interchangeable cameras, though - there are things physics can do with optics and sensor sizes that don't scale down completely. There's a Sony phone with a 1" image sensor that I lust over, if only I wasn't so locked in to Apple! :)

Jeez that camera bump will soon do a full 9-month term

Id Upgrade from my 12 pro for no notch, always on display, usb-c, redesign? Don’t see any other reason, except if they actually offered a smaller camera

Oh of course. But there is Wi-Fi and iPhones and Macs work beautifully together.

I still find it odd people must rely on a. Cable connection for simple data transfer when Wi-Fi is a better alternative.

What next the EU will go after Apple’s MagSafe on their laptops? Or iphones?

The decision of these court enforcements isn’t form the EU itself it’s from vendor partners not wanting to pay for MiFi very and the. EU not wanting Apple to pull in so much from that.

This is the first time in the histriy of the iphone i did not move from one model to the next. I still have the 12. Depending on resale value i see no compelling reason to move yo the 14. This may be the first rime i kept an iphone for the entire apple care life.

I can say that my wish for USB-C has zero to do with speed. Can't think of the last time I even used the cable to transfer data; maybe the once a year or so when I dump photos to backup (we no longer have a Mac). What I want is for all of my devices to have the same cable. This is mostly useful in the car and when traveling. At home I just use Qi, since it's even more convenient than plugging in.

I read all 7 pages of comments and come to find out my exact response is already the last response in the thread!

Life with every non-iPhone device is already so much easier because they all share the same cable. Apple has been digging their heels in on this issue for a decade and I wish they would just give in at this point.

I can understand that but what happens in a few short years when a smaller cable is better, carrys more data?

MicroUSB is smaller than USB-C not just the male part of the port, yet a
So the female receptor on the motherboard.

Same goes for Lightning cable male port and female receptor.

The design of the USB-C port is inherently flawed - in that keeping the connection in the middle allows for potential breaking. Samsung phones for years have had issues with loose female port receptors on the motherboards: Galaxy S21 and previous models, Note 20, and a few LG’s just to name a few, just have a look through XDA Forums.

The push for one cable is limited in scope as it works now but sooner a smaller cable will occur

USB-C is so unreliable. It never feels fully seated like the Lightning cable does. The slightest pull takes it out of the socket.
I've never had issues with the USB Type charging connector on my Beats Flex. If Apple can build Type C connectors for the iPhone that are as reliable as what I have on my Beats Flex, I have no worries.
