Looking at the video I just remembered the size of the AirPower. They would’ve definitely had to release a Max or Plus version at some point because there was no way it was gonna fit an iPhone Pro Max, an Apple Watch ultra and AirPods Pro in there.

Which model do you have? Mine has a detachable cable.
Oh my gosh! Thanks for making me look? It does have a detachable cable! YAY! I think I was confusing it with something else. Whether they sell the cable separately or not, I do not know though. So maybe net affect is the same?
Edit:
corrected typos

And by 'doesn't' you mean 'does', right?))

Only $300 for a charger? That seems really cheap. Should cost at least $1k.

At $300, and with only Qi-based charging, it's not worth buying the Tesla Wireless Charging Platform unless you're a Tesla superfan. At this point, a MagSafe charger is a much better use of your money if you're in the Apple ecosystem.
You can be in the Apple ecosystem and still own nothing that has Magsafe because only high-end iPhones use Magsafe.

??????

All iPhones since the iPhone 12 have had MagSafe... including the $799 entry-level models.

Yes, sold out in 7,200 minutes 🤣

Billionaire Elon Musk’s The Boring Company has sold all 20,000 of its flamethrowers in just five days.

I think someone didn't want me to have one! I was told they were all pre-sold. Dangit... Don't know what I'd do with it, but it would be cool, kinda. (There was apparently already at least one crime committed by an owner too:rolleyes:)

All of these "Tesla solved AirPower" headlines are clickbait-y, IMO, because they really didn't. The main technological hurdle of AirPower that Apple couldn't figure out was implementing two wireless charging standards -- Qi and Apple Watch charging -- into a pad that could take devices in any orientation. The Tesla charger only supports Qi and can't charge an Apple Watch.

Design wise, the charger is a flat, angular platform made from aluminum with an alcantara fabric top, which Tesla says was inspired by the Cybertruck.

Tesla includes a 65W wall adapter that's also modeled after the Cybertruck
So it’s going to look like a 5 year old designed it with a ruler and a crayon and if you try to show off how it works, it’ll backfire massively and make you look ridiculous.

Sounds like a normal day in the office at Tesla

People spend this much on a charging mat!? Im certainly not wealthy but I think 90k a year is doing fairly decent and I would NEVER drop this much money, or even half, on a charger of this sort. But I guess it depends what your priorities are. Perhaps people would be shocked at the price I pay for Klipsch speakers… IDK. I’m trying to be objective but I can’t see how someone making three times what I do would spend that on a CHARGER. Crazy…

People have $300 to burn, that's how you know the economy is strong!

But a fool and their money are soon parted.
You are assuming that $300 is a lot of money. For some people it is. For others, it is much less than an hours work.
A limited edition version would have a limit of 420, not 50,000 ;)
Either way, it goes up in smoke.
At least a $300 charger is something you'd use consistently as opposed to a $500 flamethrower

Where do you think you are? This is the internet. If you would not use a flamethrower every day, you are internetting wrong.

There's are several many thousands (hundreds of thousands, millions maybe?) of people who are actively invested in everything Musk does, people who're genuinely convinced we're going to mars and soon, will get the Hyperloop soon, will have full FSD soon, terraform the solar system within a couple decades, etc.

These people gladly shell out as much of their income on new Tesla products as they think of it as a sort of charity, that it's something that will accelerate humanity's progress towards the future or something like that.

To them, it barely even matters what the product is as long as Elon can keep the lights on.

There's even Tesla beer out right now https://gigabier.tesla.com/en_gb/gigabier.

Just €89 for three small bottles.

Why is this more expensive than a Tesla automobile Mobile Charger?

Because the enchanted will pay it, and feel awesome for doing it. Like red hats. Heck, I bought a really cool looking shirt from an expensive brand (to show off) and it didn't last an entire year. Sure, I looked foolish, especially to myself.

I remember, in high school, getting 'macrame tennis shoes'. Yeah seriously. I thought they looked amazing, and they were 'popular' too. Lasted about three months. Fashion is expensive, it is...

But, yeah, the 'permanently attached cord' is a deal breaker (even though I own an Apple 1st gen home pod).

Back in December, Tesla announced the launch of a $300 multi-device wireless charger able to charge three Qi devices at one time. There are notable parallels to Apple's now-canceled AirPower charging mat, so we thought we'd check it out to see what it's like.

Design wise, the charger is a flat, angular platform made from aluminum with an alcantara fabric top, which Tesla says was inspired by the Cybertruck. There's some subtle Tesla branding at the front, an LED light to let you know when charging is taking place, and an integrated USB-C cable.

The charger is heavy and well made, but the integrated cable is a negative because if it breaks, there's no way to replace it. Tesla includes a 65W wall adapter that's also modeled after the Cybertruck, plus a removable stand that can be used to transition the charger from a flat orientation to more of an angled orientation.

The Tesla Wireless Charging Platform is able to charge up to three devices at one time from any position on the charging base, which is how Apple wanted the AirPower to work. Three devices can receive up to 15W of power, though iPhones will be limited to 7.5W since this is Qi charging.

Unlike the AirPower, Tesla's Wireless Charging Platform does not work with the Apple Watch, but it is compatible with Qi-based iPhones and AirPod models. Given the size of the device, you're probably not going to be able to charge three large smartphones, but two smartphones and a set of AirPods works.

Tesla's charging mat is using FreePower, a technology from Aira that we have seen used in other Qi-based wireless chargers. The Base Station Pro from Nomad, for example, used FreePower and it was remarkably similar to the Tesla product. The Base Station Pro ran into trouble because it was not able to work properly with the iPhone 12 and later due to firmware issues, and it remains to be seen if the Tesla charger will have similar problems with future smartphones.

The Tesla Wireless Charging Platform works as advertised, and generally, you can place a device anywhere on the platform to get it to charge. Position does still matter somewhat, though, because you still need to make sure you have a good alignment with a coil to get the full charging speed.

At $300, and with only Qi-based charging, it's not worth buying the Tesla Wireless Charging Platform unless you're a Tesla superfan. At this point, a MagSafe charger is a much better use of your money if you're in the Apple ecosystem.

What do you think of Tesla's charger? Let us know in the comments below.

Not sure what all the fuss is about....can't charge an Apple Watch....$300 😳 and a fire hazard.
Load of rubbish 😏
