MKBHD review. He absolutely hates the case. He says if you’re not wearing them but they’re not in the case they will go into ultra low power mode after 2 hours. He says they will work if the battery is dead but they’re plugged in. He says they do bleed some when at higher volumes.

Saved me 15 minutes - Cheers !

Bose QC35 are amazing and by all means a premium product, they beat the new Apple product in most departments, including cable/jack, case and price.

I'd think hard and long when choosing between the two. Bose does not have transparency mode nor auto-switching, and changing the paddings is rather cumbersome (they do get worn out once in a couple years). But the case is great, and audio jack does come in handy on airplanes (and yes, some of us still fly in 2020).
Exactly. It’s the lack of a jack on something that I primarily use when flying that bothers me. Sticking with Bose for the present.

I've always been super underwhelmed by the actual sound quality
Fortunately I am not obsessed with that (nor notice much difference), so not my major worry. Actually since I have the AirPods Pro, I use them most of the time, Bose is now gathering dust waiting for a longer trip.

I'll wait for more affordable and better featured sport version of these. Thank you, Apple :)
Jon prosser seems to think there may be a sport version as I hope so as these would be better given can use it for workouts

Yes, I'm sure if there is a Max with Apple, there would be a Mini too. Yang to the Yin. I hope they'll be lighter, not aluminum with touch control and water resistant.. should we dream about case, not sure..

That weight, the mesh will get dirty, they will be the most stolen headphones ever, lightning, that case. It's a no for me.

I still can't imagine spending more than $200 more for these than what the Bose 700's cost (currently $340), and still not getting a 3.5mm cable and an absolutely useless case, haha.
Bose is seen as the overpriced Marketing over Sound brand of the audiophile world so I find this comment quite comical

Have you never seen anything by B&O? I'd take the actual premium materials on my H95 over these any day. You know, ultra-soft lambskin on the ear cushions, memory foam, leather headband, polished aluminium casing, and a stunning hard case.

Apple are way off with these and I really wanted them to be so much better.
I have B&O H7s, they're nice, premium materials, but Apple still wins within Apple eco. I do plan to purchase these, because I am into convinience.

The best thing about B&O bluetooth headphones aside premium materials is the fact that you can purchase battery when original battery dies or you can have backup battery at any time on you.

This is what Apple.com says: "deliver an unparalleled listening experience." Yes Apple is claiming you aren't going to get better.

The page is full of "We are the best".
Are you trying to tell me a company uses superlatives and hyperbole to market and sell products? Noooooooooooo. That can't be. Yet nowhere do they mention audiophile, audiophile-like, audiophile-level, or even audiophile-adjacent. That comparison comes from fans and detractors alike, ascribing audiophile to Apple. From every review, both tech and customer, the sound signature is described in terms of it's richness and colorfulness. That's the antithesis of the flat, neutral sound signature that typically defines audiophile headphones. Apple ain't claiming any of that. Others are though.

The first point Apple mentions on the AirPods Max page is high-fidelity audio. Given this fact, I’d say they do target the audiophile market.

People over at Head-Fi.org seems to be overall really impressed as well. Much more so than I was expecting.

I can't really fathom how people are able to claim that these don't sound much better when compared to headphones like Bose QC 35, NC 700 and Sony WH-1000XM3 and WH-1000XM4. There really is no contest.

The thing with high-end audio is that it's not supposed to sound like the audio is coming from within your head. It's supposed to sound like it's coming from outside your head. You are supposed to pretty much feel like you are listening to great speakers and not something in-ear.

If you compare the soundstage and width of the Sony's they are nowhere close to matching the AirPods Max. They have much greater width and space, which again provides much better audio separation and clarity.

Of course people tend to prefer different things. Some people actually prefers narrow and dense audio over wide and spacious. The thing is that it's much harder, especially on closed-back ANC headphones to create a wide and spacious soundstage.

If you are one that don't really care for this, or if you are someone that prefers the audio to be more v-shaped, dense, narrow and in your face then you will be able to get headphones for much cheaper that will fit your preferences.

Given the fact that high-fidelity is a marketing term also used by $20 headphones on Amazon, I'd say I'm going to stick with my original opinion: Apple isn't claiming or implying audiophile. People are incorrectly and unnecessarily inferring it.

The context though, is wireless bluetooth headphones. I do not doubt that these do deliver an unparalleled listening experience in the context of wireless bluetooth headphones. I don’t think you will find better sounding wireless bluetooth headphones.

Yes the case is pathetic and these are not good for travellers, yes I don’t find them particularly nice visually, yes I would prefer premium leather etc. Yes the band is still likely to suffer over time (so I would create a soft leather sock to cover it personally - might even do the same for the cups to protect from scratches).

I am considering these due to the sound quality and software features.

Anything without a 3.5mm jack is categorically NOT aimed at audiophiles.

Lightning to 3.5mm cable anyone? LOL
They can be wired and I got it/tested them by connecting via this cable to my PS4 Pro. They work just like any other headphones in the wired department.

Chances are won’t be made of the same material so should be lighter

They also need to make it more portable which would entail a design change.

also, if you’re doing any plyometric workout, you probably won’t want to wear over the ears. It’s uncomfortable especially with mask.
